Where do you think the smurfs would be genius? Top 500?
I’d hazard a guess they would be where i’ve been for the last year, silver to gold. Thank you for calling me a genius though, appreciated.
None of the games OP listed are doing ANYTHING about smurfs in any sort of general way, none of them…
That’s a 100% bait and switch post.
Valorant’s only change was to switch access to comp from 20 games played to games won. So a smurf can’t just idle their way into comp. That doesn’t stop smurf accounts.
DOTA just added what amounts to performance MMR boosts. So it’s the same PSR that low ranks whine about in Overwatch. That doesn’t stop smurf accounts being in game.
Fortnite only banned smurf accounts from premiere level tournaments. Looking to avoid helping other players etc in same game. Nothing about normal game play.
Then last but not least, APEX had an exploit/bug that allowed current top level player to sneak into a bronze lobby. So those players got punished. Sooo once again, nothing about smurfs in general.
None of those games are doing anything, at all, on any level, to stop a player from just having more than one account. There is no fix for that side of gaming other than pure draconian measure that will never see for anything other than $$$$$$$$$$ production software like say Photoshop.
Just work on your own game people. If you get better, you will win more games and still rank up.
Well said… Like i said, they don’t play and don’t care.
They’re most likely not even aware of how awful comp is because of smurfs.
The cherry on top is smurfs are usually grouped too, just results in another garbage 15 minute game
such a dumb mentality.
‘hey 4 games out of ten you’ll play against someone 3 to 4 ranks above you and get absolutely destroyed, bUt JuSt GeT BeTtEr dUdE’
were all winning and ranking up, that’s not even remotely the point. The point is the amount of games that are TRASH and not enjoyable at all because of smurfs. It’s not 1 game in 20, it has grown to a point where it’s almost every other game.
Of course not. It’s the entertainment business. If smurfs (alts) keep things entertaining, make them cash, and prop up their population numbers, they don’t care about integrity. The industry sets the standards really low.
OW ranks don’t even make sense % skill wise. There are 200 people occupying all T500 slots. Everyone and their dog can incog over to bronze/silver account for memes. More derank-to-bronze groups than smurf-free climbing ones. More people paid to support/produce OWL/streamer content than all of Diamond most nights.
Solving smurfing is patent-worthy if rigging the matchmaker is patent-worthy. I’m sure ATVI will develop their own “smurf handling algs” eventually. Whether it is implemented in time for OW2 is doubtful.
This issue just goes around and around on the same worn out ground.
It’s pointless to keep trying to explain how the numbers don’t line up and most smurfs are not smurfs at all but just alt accounts being played honest.
Most of all there isn’t any way to fix it short of doing super heavy handed measures that will never fly with the general player base of any game. So it’s annoying to see something like the OP post trying to suggest how Valorant, LoL, Apex and Fortnite gone after smurfs in general, when that’s just untrue.
and as I said, players just need to learn to roll with it or move on from ever playing PvP games in a comp like setting. This has been an issue as long as we have had ranking systems in place and it’s going to be there for long into the future.
The only saving grace is as I said, it might make some games feel lame but it’s not having long term impact on players ranks.
Smurfs aren’t a problem, just like leavers aren’t a problem, just like throwers aren’t a problem. You are the problem, stop blaming everyone for your mistakes!
Incorrect.
When there are players out there who have dozens of accounts when you only need one, there’s most assuredly a problem.
Jeff Kaplan himself has even admitted they’re a problem, and I’ll take his word over someone whose name is a plural any day.
Incorrect.
When someone leaves the match it causes the team with the leaver to play at a massive disadvantage in what’s meant to be a fair and balanced competitive environment.
Incorrect.
When someone chooses to deliberately sabotage your team’s efforts to accomplish the objective and your team cannot do anything about it, that’s a problem.
Incorrect.
You cannot blame someone for the choices of those that cheat, leave, or throw.
Sounds like a bunch of excuses
You’re the one claiming they’re not a problem when anyone with half a brain cell knows full well that they are.
Blizzard’s solution
Remove player borders
Which not all players want.
I like my Diamond border and do not want it to go away!
Yeah they already removed stack reveal in 222 (another reason OPEN is better). They know it’s going lowpop and they know less information to blame with is more sustainable.
I’ve been doing some science in non-comp modes lately - border scaling seems logarithmic. 100:10:1 bronze/silver/gold rates. I’m plat border so whenever I see another plat border it’s auto-friendrequest.
Skill doesn’t matter to me so much as journey travelled. Skill is always a gamble, burners vs. mains shouldn’t ever be.
It really isn’t.
Too often it devolves into a chaotic mess of 4+ Damage which, more often than not, makes for an unwinnable match.
It’s one of the reasons 222 was added to start with.
I thought 222 was to stop goats? Which one is it?
That’s hardly a mess. It’s a high octane multi-clap 141 variant. It often starts several 1 shot flankers which is just too fast for casuals (especially console types). They expect shields and pockets and their diversity friends expect to healbot for free. They want slower ttk.
OPEN is faster at first, then it degrades into brawl or bastion++ for overtime contest. OPEN has a higher skillcap because math but I digress. It’s not what this thread is about.
I said it was one of the reasons, not the only reason.
Well 222 is one of the reasons this game has no players but many many alt accounts. Most want to dodge queues as much as they want to dodge bad roles or non-ezworld matches.
I’d almost quit playing due to 4+ Damage team compositions in Competitive. 222 came at just the right time for me, and I’m sure I’m not the only one.
LFG is your friend. Can’t find people? They’re already in queue, maybe taking flexpass bribes for it, and prefering quantity over highly regulated quality. Take it up with the LFG design if you really need to force your role-lockdown beliefs on others.
222 literally encourages smurfing - which you call cheating. Terminology I used to disagree with, but am starting to side with. Alts definitely give an unfair (ladder) advantage.
