The thing is, I’m not faulting anything in the video clips other than some (key word “some”) over healing. They are all playing Mercy properly. The issue is simply that the only place she’s really fun is when she isn’t being pressured because she is such a non-concern from lack of impact or when the game is a complete clown fiesta where no one is playing the way they should be.
Mercy being “functional and fun” but only at the worst of match making and the worst of proper play by the opponents is the point of the complaints expressed by the rework Mercy movement and what the majority of Mercys complaining have a problem with.
I agree partially, Valk is not ability that. On its own can do much. You’d never back off an enemy Mercy Valking because it’s not intimidating
I simply think having a stronger main beam and less change would make you juggle targets.
Then I’d know I actually swung the tide by my juggling and prioritization, instead of clicking onto one person and hoping the healing is enough for everyone near them
I find valkyrie a lot of fun when its not in my ranking because i can actually do things instead of hiding because everyone has god tier aim where i am. its so nice to be able to fly around and sneak rez in. But sadly its very unrewarding in my ranking due to not being able to fly because i need to hide when i valkyrie.
I have never once had a teammate ask me if Valk is ready, nor have a few of my friends.
Res is unique to Mercy and what sets her apart from other healers. It is HER thing.
If it was a bad res, yes, it felt bad. Still does. Especially in Valkyrie because you wasted your ult trying to bring somebody back. Mass Res didn’t work that way. Once you ressed, you ressed. The end. That in itself was a problem, but it felt great, especially when that res was the reason you won the fight, still does. Res was never my problem and still isn’t. Valkyrie is. Because it is so lackluster most times.
Well, I did include one high-level competitive clip, but I didn’t get to play a lot of comp this week. I’ll have to compile some competitive videos someday. I’ve just never been much of a video clipper. I actually enjoy zipping around under fire and it makes for some good plays. I believe the way I use her is still relevant in competitive, though. I’ve always tried to play Mercy in as active a style as possible.
Agreed. People have different play styles and mine has always been a fairly aggressive Mercy. The rework took my aggressiveness and made it plain because now I’m doing what always always done, just easier.
I’m not vouching for Mass Res back, but it was definitely better for me because it suited my play style better.
Sorry for not watching every clip, I just don’t have the time. All I will say is this - what first drew me to Mercy was that she was a pure support, and while knowing when and how to use the gun is important it wasn’t the most vital part of her kit. In several of the vids I saw that was actually when you had the most impact - killing the enemies.
I want a healer ult for Mercy, not one that should be used for pew-pew. I can use Coalescence without doing a single point of dps and still have major impact by saving a tank about to go down. I want that kind of impact for Mercy.
I do kill people in all of these clips. What I like about Valkyrie, though, is that it can be whatever you want it to be. I had plenty of instances during these games where I just used Valk for healing, but those don’t make for good videos. Valkyrie’s purpose isn’t killing things; It’s just one of the options it gives you. I understand that a lot of people want something more impactful on the healing front and they’re not wrong for feeling that way. It’s just not what I want. I’m hoping Valk stays the way it is, though, because you can always pair Mercy with another support who does have major healing output with their ult. I think she’s unique this way.
I still disagree with your assessment of what “hide and rez” was. People claim Mercys would disengage during battle after getting ult, “letting” their teammates die, and then mass rezzing, when it wasn’t the case. Nor is it the case here, which is what I was stating.
Also, I don’t think it’s fair to say this:
when people like myself love Mercy for being under pressure and getting out of the pressure.
I always get targeted, esp. during rez casting, and it’s always fun for me when I’m able to pull it off. It’s never fun when it’s a cakewalk, which is why I have fun with Mercy now… I find it harder to pull off a sick play with her.
Edit: also, this isn’t me saying she was “unfun” when she had Mass Rez, either.
This is also important to me. It’s fun to me when I’m being pressured as Mercy. It helps incentivize strong positioning on my part and making full use of her GA’s to escape that pressure. When I’m being pressured, that gives me more to do and less pressure being put forward on my team.
I enjoy both old and new mercy, despite my criticisms of her current design. The character is one that simply clicks with me.
Why not both? I think it fills both of those play styles right now. You can even do both in the span of one Valkyrie usage. I didn’t post videos where I just healed people, though, because I don’t think they’d be interesting to anyone.
I agree. As weird as it sounds to some, I absolutely LOVE being under fire with Mercy. Trying to do my job while also being public enemy #1 is kind of a rush. She’s a battle medic in every sense of the word.
When I’m on the other side, I’m always all, “dang slippery mercy lemme murder you UGHH” and I can only imagine what that other person is saying when I get off a rez and GA away on 5HP.
Not everything has to be video-worthy. I doubt there are any compilations of Widowmaker popping her visor or Orisa using supercharger. That doesn’t make them any less impactful. They just aren’t much fun to watch.
What problem?
That using it as only a M1 Spectator mode is boring?
Pitty that’s all you want to use it for I guess?
You may not like Valk, doesn’t change the fact it can be used in a very impactful way. Just not the way you want.
Now if only I can get on fire when I get multiple assists during Valk. There are so many times I pop Valk, damage boosting and get all the assists on the kill feed and it doesn’t put me on fire T.T I know it’s not the only indicator of impact or gitting gud but it’s nice to have that incentive.
I can tell you, on my end it is normally rapid and exaggerated gasps of panic as I zip away. Followed by the occasional fit of manical laughter that I just somehow survived.
I’m not a Mercy player, but I never understood the complaints of the Valkyrie changes. Mercy never seemed engaging until Valkyrie was added. Suddenly Mercy went from always being in the background, or hiding under a rock, to being at the forefront of the battle, reviving people mid fight and actually being able to make good use of her pistol in Valkyrie form.
