Thanks : ). Really, if I can get even one person to feel more motivated to use the whole kit, this post will be worth it.
This isn’t true though, people know that valk will help a push and in coms often times people will beg to be rezzed back if you valk because they know you have more chances to pull off a risky rez than without it
Sorry but this is not true either, sometimes you ulted and the enemy team just did a re-wipe and in that moment you felt like Mercy was just a joke, sometimes when you tempo rezzed and 3 people died immediately after people would flame you for not hiding and trying to go for a big rez, it felt worse to fail than current rez
Rez is part of what Mercy does, it is not unique and impactful because what Mercy does IS in part rezzing
I didn’t leave it out. It’s pretty evident in the videos (and on my profile) that I’m on PS4 and I explained that they were mostly quickplay clips. I really don’t think Mercy is very different on console vs. PC, though. I’ve only played a little on PC, but I watch a lot of pro Overwatch and streamer videos and they can handle her similarly.
I do behave pretty much the same way in competitive, though, if that’s your issue. It’s easier, even, because people are more likely to be communicating in competitive. I ask for nano boosts all the time. People don’t know what to do when super moth comes at them.
I… I…
Idk how to respond to this
Nano boosted valk actually puts out really high DPS with infinite ammo.
I don’t ask for it. But there’s a reason why if I ever accidentally get a boost I just whip out the pistol.
Yes, accidentally and ofc it does as does anything Ana Nanoes that’s why it should never be wasted on a mercy and again, why are we running 2 supposed main healers side by side. Is Mercy unable to keep up with just an off healer helping her?
Yup! It has that high DPS on top of the extra defense and constant health regeneration. Super moth is a force to be reckoned with. If you can’t one-shot her with something, you’re going to have to just run.
To be blunt. Mercy should still be able to keep up with her offhealers.
As for the math behind nanoboosted mercy and why it’s not terrible, mercy’s pistol does 20 damage a shot, firing 5 shots a second for 100 DPS. 100 DPS is actually pretty dang respectable. With Valk, she gets the best mobility (vertical mobility, able to quickly dash if need be) to get in position to land shots with infinite ammo. It’s also relatively safe as she will constatly regen 20 health a second.
With nano boost, you have someone who has some of the best mobility in the game, no spread to worry about on their gun, infinite ammo, 150 DPS a second, 50% damage reduction, and 20 health regen a second.
It’s absolutely shocking what you’re able to do with it.
Edit: All of that said, I still think Valk is bad as an utlimate for the reasons I mentioned earlier. None of that is clear to the player unless you actually look into it, and then feel brave enough to even test it out. Unlike say nano blade, where it’s obvious what it will do (and is going to be the better target normally anyway due to his blade being able to hit several targets at once).
I feel like a lot of it has to deal with rank. Lower ranks people position oddly and don’t know how to take less damage so you have to spend most of valk healing. Onto Nano valk great for the memes in qp not sure if its ideal usage of support ults in comp though
I don’t mind ults that do one thing but prefer ults like Valk. It’s a more versatile Q that lets the user get stuff done, whatever and wherever it may be. I think much of the complaints are from players that prefer the flashier but more straightforward ultimates.
I do agree valk has a much better potential for creative usage than mass rez.
I do wish her primary target during valk received higher rate of healing though, even if it means sacrificing the aoe.
You’re right that the ability is a little different across ranks. Teams do need more babysitting in lower ranks, but that’s alright. Valkyrie is about knowing what your team needs most in that moment and using the ability to that end. If that means they just need a lot of healing, that’s how it should be used in that instance.
As far as comp ults, it always depends. It’s usually safer and more predictable to nano boost a Reinhardt or DPS or something, but, if Mercy is ready for it and has a goal in mind, I think it’s a good play. It’ll be hard to justify to the team if you whiff it, though, so it’s definitely a risk.
Inc 5 reports, mercy throwing GG no re.
Also because in lower ranks there are less chances of Mercy dying during valk hence the “hug the skybox” mindset.
I have to hug columns and walls or even the floor when I valk because even in quick play people succeeds in killing me.
I always find it odd that just because you can fly up, that a lot of people think that means you have to fly up or should all the time.
There are several times where I need the extra boost in safety or mobility / heals but don’t want to fly up where the widow will just pick me off.
A lot of these were Battle Mercy, but in Valk. It’s fun, don’t get me wrong, but against her entire concept of a pacifist he’s centric support
All of the clips that you healed, your team recieved little to no damage or was paired with another support ult(like the brig armor) that made it “impactful”
Don’t get me wrong, I like the concept of Valk(and flying!) but the way the numbers are arranged for healing isn’t engaging imo
her Strongest ability is still her Rez, which isn’t even an Ult or is even buffed in Ult
Valk has been used in OWL to deal with oppressive Widowmakers. Crazy versatile.
My favorite part about Valkyrie is how much it enhances my mobility with the extended reach of GA. I’ve done some pretty nutty position management during Valkyrie when my teammates are all over the map. It’s also fun to stall points with it. Being able to damage boost my entire team is the best.
To me personally , I find that the rework dumbed down mercys kit quite a lot;
-Valk offers chain healing/damage boost- removes the point for beam juggling.
-Ressurect on cooldown- makes it overall an easier ability to use.
While I want a rework of any kind, I’m not crying for one. I wouldn’t mind a mercy healing revert to 60hps, for valk to be shortened to 12 seconds and for the healing to be increased to 75hps. I also wouldn’t mind if activating valk didn’t stop mercys beam temporarily.
I think you meant to direct this at me. You replied to another guy. Anyway, only a few of these clips were me winning fights by myself. Most of them were team efforts with other ults involved, but you don’t have to win a fight alone for it to be considered impactful. I did a lot of things other than healing that made the plays work.
You’re right about Mercy being a pacifist, though. I don’t really know how to reconcile that with the people I’ve been killing. I choose not to think about it because I’m having fun.
