Since I can’t add another comment on the original post…
Update to this post:
I got a reply back on why my Account was permanently banned:
I've done a careful investigation to your account and I can confirm that your Overwatch account is closed permanently, due to a breach of our policies, for repetitive use of toxic language. Some examples of this are the following: "absolute buffoon", "cretin", "bro the only thing you killed was harambe", "rip bro", "Hacker", "i will report you to my local authorities", "youre a buffoon", "and a cretin on top", "bastard". Considering this, the action taken here is correct and will be upheld, and it will not be taken in consideration from additional appeals.
Getting a permanent ban for any of those words is just unbelievably insane to me…
And there is seemingly no way to start a discussion with the support team…
I’ll take you at your word here and just assume that is an authentic response.
I’ve held the position for more than a year that it is better to not have any form of chat enabled. This is the only game where even a benign comment not directed any anyone in particular can be taken as a personal insult and someone with a victim complex loses their mind and hits the report button.
“hacker” being in the list is comical because there was like a two week span where I noticed blatant rage hacking and so much as typing that out being used against you to permanently ban you is insulting.
The bans that preceeded this one, especially the last one, was full of “gg” and “hi” messages…
I don’t think this system works as designed.
I know out of context a “bastard” might look insulting, but it was in jest to a Sombra that focused me and they got the joke
Either way slapping a permanent ban on me and then giving these as a reason is so heartbreaking. But I would rather be dumb in chat than turn into an NPC
Overwatch’s ban system is abominable. In my opinion, only third-party cheat users should be permanently banned.
Blizzard has so many rules that we can’t guarantee that everyone won’t break the rules 100%. Blizzard can penalize offending players, ban communication, and a short ban is acceptable. Depending on the degree of violation, it can be suspended for a few days, months, or years. However, permanent bans are only suitable for third-party cheaters. That’s the most reasonable.
