The Current State of the Report System

Hey, we all know the current report system is massively flawed if you play Ranked a lot and use text chat, but I had no idea it’s that bad…

To be clear, this post isn’t an appeal, I just want everyone know the current state of the report system.

This is the part where the support gave me a list of messages for the reason of my suspension:

After further investigation, this account has been closed till 2024-06-27 due to a violation in the in-game chat with chat logs:

"yeah leave u losers", "hiiiiiiiiii ♥", "i will use your toenails as a toothpick", "Stargazer", "youre so cute", "i love you", "vort", "pull me", "WHAT", "that was cool", "fk u", "gg !!"

"Hii", "sorry !!!!", "i will respect your privacy", "yes i will stf.u now !!!!", "wooops", "fight me in Tinderwatch Custom Game", "Hey !!!!!!!!!!!!!", "i will put your a$$ under the curse of Canaan", "your blood line wont be the same anymore", "aint nobody talkin to you"

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA", "yayyy", "gg !", "bro has lost the plot"

I've reviewed the action an additional time, and I've confirmed the initial findings. This action is now upheld and will not be reversed or changed.

Now, this support ticket was for my suspension of last month.
Today my account has been permanently banned and again there was no reason provided, so I have to deal with the support system again.

Can I just get some opinions, is this normal?
Do I deserve a ban for any of that?
I have been playing since OW1 Season 1 and losing my account to that is just sad to me…

How’d you get it to be pink?

Also, though you did violate the rules, it’s wild that the rules are this strict. The report system should only be in place for legitimate threats and for promotion of illegal activities/solicitation.

Probably. Seen plenty of these for a few months now.

Does it matter?

This account has the Top500 OW1 Season 2 spray so I’m sad it’s gone…

``` on both ends, does syntax highlighting, probably chooses the language depending on context:
"asd","ahd"
because if you do a bit of HTML it looks different:
<b><p>dahsdpi</p></b>
<i>dahsdpi</i>
"asd","ahd"
You can also do ```js, for example, to get specific languages:
let lol = "literally me";
console.log(lol);
Ah I see. Something to complex for my tiny brain to understand then. :+1:
There was also lots of “gg” “sorry” “i will respect your privacy” fmawoefmoaefmafeniagnwegngaiweng
I have to change my personality
All of those are reportable.
The fact that you got a support system to even point out your messages is amazing.
Yes permanent banned is correct.
Think of it this way. On the other side of the computer, the player maybe trying his best but has the worst team and then he has to put up with you demeaning tone.
What you typed you would not say to the other persons face if he was in front of you. So why would you say behind ? Only because you can and you can get away with it.
Hope you learned something.
That hi could have been in the same game he was abusive before. He could have been toxic before a kill and then said hi.
Continue to push the ticket and demand proof of why you were ban. It might take a few pushes but eventually u will get an actual person… but u might as well just make a new account… I doubt u will get urs back… and if u do make another account just turn off all ur chats and save urself the headache
well according to the goblins that never leave their room and think they help everyone by reporting, yes. Honestly what you said does go against the rules but I wouldn’t report any of this, its pretty funny. It takes one bad apple to ruin the rest and that describes this system perfectly, you can be in a max capacity custom lobby and all it takes is 1 sore loser to report you.
I’m gonna be honest and say I have said stuff before like
“this match sucks doo doo balls”
“HELLL NAH THIS MAP HELLA NASTY”
“Nah” after someone says gg (which is rude no defense for that other than I say it mostly in stomps)
“oiled up reinhardt just pinned me to the wall while my healers watched how fun”
I’ve been called slurs before in total mayhem lobbies and people who just wish harm against others or wish to ruin the fun of the game should be reported, if I see anyone trash talking their team they 100% get a report from me.
It really just depends on who is with you, I have gotten a couple warnings before, and I say you got caught in the wrong crowds of lobbies, I hope you do find some way to get your account unbanned or wish you a happy fresh start with a new account, or maybe it’s a sign to quit the game because it’s not gonna get any better
None of my messages were meant in a demeaning tone… and that “Hi” was at the start of the game that I always write…
And yes I would say those things to the person in front of me. None of those would be hurtful to anyone I know in my life… :frowning:
That is your perspective not mine.
Trust me you would even say hi to me if we are sitting in front of each other.
I don’t know you and all of those are offensive.
Time for a new account be less toxic this time.
So, after creating a support ticket for my ban and asking for the reason, I got the following non-answer back and the ticket was set to “resolved”:
This action has been taken in accordance with our Terms of Use and our In-game Policies ( https://blizzard.com/support/article/42673 ), which all players acknowledge and agree to prior to playing. These policies and conditions allow us to maintain a fun and safe game environment for all of our players.
Our Battle.net Terms of Use can be found at https://blizzard.com/company/legal/eula.html
Really really really frustrating… :confused:
The moment you use text or voice chat you set yourself for a suspension.
The system is completely automated and based on volume of reports, so it’s only a matter of time before you get suspended/banned if you continue using text/voice chat.
Content and context of your messages do not matter one bit.
I would say you got really lucky to get a response back for the reasons of your suspension if that is true.
Having said all that however, from your chat logs it does seem like there was some valid reasons to suspend you temporarily.
Permaban is very harsh and it usually means you continued the same rhetoric for multiple months in a row.
You can submit a request for your account data here: (Obtain a Copy of my Data)
It includes all chat logs (From your side only), suspensions as well as many other details, so maybe you can get some clues on what triggered the ban.
Thanks Afterstar !
I would be fine with a temp account silence for typing stuff like the dumb Canaan thing or the toenails line, those might have been over the top :smiley:
But a permaban is just too harsh, I don’t think anyone should be banned for that…
And I understand that an automated report system would trigger even on lots of false reports, but it should not be that hard to find an actual human being in the support team to provide the reason for a ban… :frowning:
Thanks for the data idea!! I’m from EU so I might try the GDPR route
The system needs an overhaul and by that I mean there should be a game client that still launches. But with LIMITED FEATURES.
If you have not threatened VIOLENCE or extreme harm to someone. Your chat privileges should be REVOKED. Not an account banned.
This means that Global, Match and team chat should not be available for you and that It should show an “X” by your name for “muted to all channels”.
Now if you threatened someone. Than yes. you deserve a full-on ban.
As for the client. it should still launch with a direct line to customer support and be a game client resolution center.
I mean if they can build it into WoW. they certainly can build it into Overwatch.
Just looking at what you said above. I’d be inclined to say that you need a 12 hour chat ban and then perhaps moving it up to the 72 hour chat ban.
Technically that’s already in the game with the Endorsement Level 0, which imo is a great system :person_shrugging:
reporting for any language is dumb just mute them. why have a mute button if youre not going to use it
Blizzard bans over air expelled in a VC in a way they dont like.
Just do the same as everyone else and mute all chats permanently. Game is socially dead, and the only words youre allowed to say in chat are about how much you love Blizzard and how there is no war in Ba Sing Se.
The fact that it seems like account mutes arent even a thing anymore, and Blizzard is just outright burying accounts 6 feet deep over words is insane.
Not even Riot is inept as Blizzard. But its cool, lets keep letting the employee touchers tell us that no no words cause irl boo boos and we deserve capital punishment for using swears in chat while McCree still has “BAMF” on his belt buckle and many heroes on the roster swear in voicelines.
