UPDATE! FPS Issues 4/2

Hey friends! We’re rolling out an update at 3 PM PT today aimed at hopefully addressing low fps issues some players have faced since s1 launch.

We’re testing this to see if it fixes things, but it’s a complicated issue and unsure if it will work for all players. If you still see low FPS, please let us know here!

Downloaded this update by accident and then had to come find what it was! Done some quick tests with workshop codes and custom games (so obviously in a real match could change, and system to system I’m sure there will be specific issue). However:

Wow! For such a teeny tiny patch this helps a ton. Did a fully maxed out stadium round with a bunch of Aimbot bots and tried to create as much visual clutter as I could with Hazard - buttery smooth! I genuinely couldn’t remember how smooth the game (Stadium especially) could be. Can’t wait to play some real games tomorrow like this. Borderless windowed and Fullscreen both seem to be working great. Had horrible stuttering until I restarted my PC but seems to be a one off thing and haven’t recreated this issue since.

Really happy about the transparency with this even though I clearly wasn’t feeling the worst of its effects as can be seen with the main thread. There is a noticeable difference for the better though. I’d love to see a Weekly (or not) Recall blog about the fault finding, community feedback, fixing and deployment process for this issue and ones like it - more transparency the better (even if some would find it mind numbingly boring).

In conclusion: number went up!

Edit: just thought of a more intensive test: 6v6 April Fools all Junker Queen, that gets the frame rate to hover between 90-120 with lowest of 60 on my system (which can be seen in the help wanted thread here). Obviously very extreme but thought I’d add

This is a huge improvement! On average I’m seeing about a 200fps increase up to the maximum of 600 when in spawn etc, no longer dropping into the low 200s in big teamfights

Much higher GPU utilisation too. Before this update, reducing the resolution/using DLSS made no difference to framerate, now it makes a large difference.

Thanks

fps in ‘vaxta‘ increased by 60% :+1:

The patch has helped a little, it’s not dipping as low as before but still not maintaining high FPS like before in actual games.

idk why but for me the game lag is even worse

Definitely saw a major increase in performance, and my GPU utilization is WAY up compared to before. It would never go above 35%, but now it’s going up to the 80-90% range during teamfights. Game is running so much smoother now. Thank you so much for addressing this.

This patch didn’t wipe replays right?!

Honestly didn’t see much of an improvement after this patch on my side, sadly

it definitely STILL dips HARD, that “high FPS” number becomes cosmetic when the game cannot sustain itself

Just tested a benchmark and the 1% lows are wayyy better, will test ingame more

Edit: Still getting drops in proper matches though :frowning:

i only started having fps issues after the 4/1 patch, unsure whats going on, could run borderless windowed at high graphics settings formerly. fullscreen fixes it but makes my mouse jitter to the point its unplayable

Pls fix AMD Radeon Rx6600 :weary_face::weary_face:

Overall, it’s much better.
I was only able to play a few matches, but I never dropped below 300 FPS (I’m locked at 327 FPS due to G-Sync + V-Sync (NVIDIA Control Panel) + Reflex On/Boost).

However, I noticed while facing an enemy Ramattra in Underwatch mode that I experienced an FPS drop when he used a vortex or when he activated his ultimate (which caused a drop down to 250 FPS).

I’m not sure if this is specific to Underwatch mode or if it also happens when playing Ramattra. (Unfortunately, I don’t have much time to play right now, but I can make another post later :sob::folded_hands:)

Here is my setup if it helps:

  • i7 12700KF
  • RTX 3080 (Asus TUF OC)
  • 16 GB DDR4 RAM at 4400 MHz
  • Windows 11 25H2
  • Steam

my game feels like im playing on a powerpoint still ): it’s not constant, and “scan and repair” momentarily fixes it. this has happened tonight. i opened the game, it was almost unplayable, did a scan and repair, and now about 2 hours later its rough again.

im definitely still getting massive drops, even in the practice range. right after this patch dropped i got a game on horizon lunar colony in the april fools mode where i was averaging between 80-30 fps on a 9800x3d + 4070 :sob:

Still having some issues with CPU usage going to 99% and GPU dropping. The frame rates are holding up better but I’ve changed my graphic settings multiple times and it hasn’t fully corrected.

Im glitching all game.

It feels slightly better, but still very far from how it used to be before this issue. Still dropping down to 90 fps sometimes. My setup is detailed here : Framerate (FPS) Issues - Help Wanted! - #616 by Astérix-21645
