Playing as Ana on Route 66 (starting defence)
What did I do wrong here? I died once by being out of position to a soljourn and mercy towards the end, but I believe I was doing fine. I stay pushing payload because I want to push faster and Lifeweaver can help me fight doomfist quite reliably
I felt like I tried my best and got a lot of assists, 37 eliminations, 15k damage, healed when needed, still lost yet again. If I try my best and still lose what’s the point? I’m annoyed
Your mentality is the problem here. Just because you did your best doesn’t mean you aren’t going to lose. Even if you played the best match of your life, or simply outplayed everyone. All you can do is be proud of your contribution and move on.
Entitlement isn’t helpful. I’m not trying to be mean. But that’s something to learn. Learn from the things you did wrong and go to the next match. Take a breather if you need to. Go for a walk. Drink water. Make a healthy meal. Read a book. Then come back refreshed.
This is all good and valid in a vacuum but there’s a balance. You shouldn’t get mad at EVERYTIME your attempt fails, but this game especially has these brutal waves of that being EVERY game that spans many nights of trying. It’s a neverending problem where there will always be someone better but also matchmaker for EVERYONE’S sake, needs to have a bone thrown at you especially if you intend on keeping that player engaged. Casinos knew about this for a long time.
Well then you go into territory of needing validation. You mention a vacuum, but if you can’t apply it to a video game and understand you aren’t owed anything, it is best to move on. The bone eventually gets thrown at you anyway, because who is losing 100% of their matches when they try their best?
There’s needing validation (and you know that’s the case when you’re blaming other people) and then there’s the feeling like you’re getting the short end of the stick at someone else’s expense such as poor matchmaking. It’s not a rage inducing feeling, it’s more of a disheartening sensation.
Agreed it’s best to move on sometimes but it can be a weaning process. The double edged sword about that is, if you don’t care about it, then it’s not as fun but if you care about it, you’re more vulnerable to any negative effects of enjoying something. My point is, I’ve played enough to know there IS a systematic problem but everyone has different angles they’re approaching it from. It’s better to just say “Sucks for the circumstances” and either offer anecdotes or carry on because I’ve seen far too many concerns get swept under the rug because people were expressing negativity about it, which is mentality. Only to be proven right.
That’s a response to mentality in your games, but to address OP more specifically, that’s just the cost of playing a team based game where you’re at the mercy of your teammates. Especially in a 5v5 format. Any game that goes into 5 digits of healing and damage tends to be a good game. I’m talking more when the other team has 10x the elims to death and you never even got to really play or get into a fight over how bad the decimation was.
Sorry for the tangent. The game is in a very messy state and I wish there was more focus on it directed at the people whose job it is to fix it.
No need to be sorry. You expressed your thoughts clearly.
I’m sure to some, I can come off dismissive and rude. That’s not necessarily my intent. I’ll state it like this when it comes to gaming in general.
It’s a video game. If you aren’t enjoying it move on.
Is that a bit cold and minimizing? Yes.
But when it comes down to it, we’re playing these games often from the safety and comfort of our homes. Yes it’s a form of escapism from the everyday struggles of life. If you can’t get away in a video game, where do you go? That’s for each individual to decide. Still, there’s entire countries under siege. There are raging fires eradicating homes and memories within. There are people who don’t know where to get their next meal.
OW, like everything else will die.
The control we each have is how we accept and move forward when things aren’t going our way.
To the poster above (and the OP) - what I learned is that life doesn’t care about “good”, only about “good enough”. If I “did my best” and I still “didn’t get it” - then it’s a case of “good” that is not “good enough”.
There’s no need to bite around the bush. If the criteria for “good” is simply to “feel good” - then sure, I can pat myself on the back and be content. But it the criteria is to be “good enough” - then what I did was simply not it. I wasn’t good enough. I didn’t make it. Life doesn’t care. There’s only one winner. There are no participation prizes or consolation rewards.
I enjoy performing well, but it’s sad to play your best and go on a small lose streak without an explanation.
Imagine if you played a game well just to not win; what’s the point of all this effort if you get no reward and a big fat “Defeat” screen.
So far it seems nobody really watched the gameplay and is telling me to move on with it. My brain doesn’t work like that. If my performance doesn’t reflect my rank and I have to sweat constantly just to maximise my chance of winning, I’d rather wait until they fix it or just uninstall. Either that or have someone tell me what exactly I did wrong to not win this game
Honestly, I don’t think there’s more you could’ve done. I know you’re annoyed because you lost after working so hard, but I would still be proud of that game. In fact, you couldn’t wipe the smile off my face. You’re fighting like mad.
Those times you got eliminated late in round 2 cost you the match, I think. Nothing you did wrong necessarily, more that you lost your momentum. The walk back from spawn to re-engage the enemy. Meanwhile the payload stalls with only seconds left.
Don’t feel bad about that game. I wouldn’t if I played half as well as you did here.
Yeah, feels like that I could have avoided possibly. Damn, sometimes it feels like the enemy can turbofeed into your backline but you make one mistake and it’s game over…
It happened to me ALOT, then one day i quit and am still playing a game I enjoy win or lose HellDivers 2.
Become a hero, Become a legend, Become a Hell Diver.
[Incoming message from Super Earth]
Super Earth needs you, just yesterday we lost a planet(Angels Venture) to the Meridian void it is still making its way to our home and we need all the divers we can get.
I’m not going to watch it, but here’s the reality, you can absolutely dominate a lobby and still lose. That’ll never go away.
Let’s say you played a perfect Ana. Every anti you hit is at least 4 people. Did your team follow up on it? If not, then it didn’t matter. You hit every sleep on every dive or flank or ult. Did your team follow up on it? Then it didn’t matter. Your nanos may be impeccably timed and the right target every time at the right moment. Can that guy aim? Does he know where to go with it? If not, then it didn’t matter.
The problem with OW1 and OW2 is you need teammates. Sometimes depending on your hero and your role, you need them less, but you still need them. This is why overwatch has always been best played in a full group that’s communicating.
Outside of that it’s roll of the dice. If you want to win more games regardless of team, you have to play at a level that is massively higher than the lobby you’re in. When you can’t, you get to that 50/50 plateau.
Don’t take Overwatch 2 seriously because they didn’t use the old matchmking system anymore.
According to dev announcement, you’re more likely to match up with bad teammate if you win too many games. It is designed to help people stop loss : from this forum " Blizzard confirms forced 50/50"
Everybody is matched by the sum of hidden MMR number.
Player who has higher elo has only one job “To carry everyone and stop loss streak of your teammate”
Even so, with the ow2 health pool and incomplete component, it is impossible to carry by single person.
They implement on both qp and comp. Even some OW Champion Series player I know, they’re only diamond 1- Master 4. The funny part is they were al peak gm in ow1. So… Just chill and don’t take it serious.
I’m only mas5, but always match against former GM1-Champion regularly in QP. Rank means nothing.
I didn’t watch it, because the actual gameplay doesn’t matter. It’s the mindset. You can be the best player in the world playing your very best but still take multiple L’s in succession (think of any top level athlete in their prime who lost when they played their heart out more than once).
I can’t say these things to you If hadn’t experienced it myself (that being playing to the best of my ability but still losing often). Can it be frustrating? Sure. But dwelling on something already in the past in a demoralizing way isn’t going to help you.
That being said, I think it’s awesome you are appear to want to learn what you can improve on. That is the mindset to have and will take you far with patience and persistence. Kudos for that.
This is a game where you can do everything right and still lose.
The system you’re referring to was where they tested placing placers on losing streaks with players with better records to try and break those streaks.
Turns out the results were statistically insignificant. Meaning ‘it made no difference to win or loss streaks’, they were largely the result of player error. It was so useless in breaking loss streaks they removed that functionality from the matchmaker very soon after it’s implementation. It is no longer in effect.
I’m not the matchmaker’s biggest fan. It definitely feels like something is going on with a lot of people’s games. However ‘50/50’ isn’t it (if that were the case I’d probably be winning far more games than I currently am.)
I don’t think they have any negative feedback loop in the MM. For example when it predicts a 50% or fair match but then the match is a complete one-sided stomp, it should feed it back to the algorithm that it’s completely wrong
