What do you considered to be the most skilled hero in the game? I’m just curious
If we equate health to risk then we’re saying Tracer is just as risky as playing baby D.Va into an enemy back line. Which would be a flat out lie.
Hahahhahahahahahahahhahahahahaha ok dude.
doom, genji, widow. now tracer who has the most busted broke kit ever. you can get away with so much with her
If she’s hard meta, then she’s not high-skill. Balance is a measure of the rewards output by a character per unit effort or skill. If you want to know who the high-skill characters really are, go to Overbuff, stratify by GM, and scroll to the bottom. Those are your high-skill heroes.
ehhh I think some heroes have a hard limit like bastion or moira. If we look at hero that is low pick but demonstrates that there are tiers of skill? then it’s probably ynza with pharah?
That simply is not true, as there have been players who have reached GM/Top-500 with those characters in their current respective balance states. That would not be possible if it were a hard limit. There is only a soft limit, and that soft limit is how much skill or effort a hero requires to provide a given reward.
Good joke. No she doesn’t.
There’s nothing I can add that others haven’t already said.
She is fun - I do enjoy playing her. Most skill is subjective. Counterable and high risk? Those are very debatable.
No, the limit is not just how much skill/effort a hero requires. For example, imagine they release Widow 2. She’s the same as widow but you need to hit one extra charged shot to kill, and she has 75 hp. More skill and effort right? but she’s so weak that it doesn’t matter how many hours or talent you have you always lose. There’s a limit on how far the character can go.
I’m trying to express that’s there’s diminishing returns to each character, and some reach that plateau faster than others.
The true measure of skill is how many tiers of skill are possible. I’m saying there isn’t much difference between a 1000hr moira and a 5000 hr moira. she is limited in her possible skill expression, and probably gm/low top 500 is that limit.
YNZA pharah I’d say is a good example of tiers of skill. low pick rate, considered a bad pick, yet YNZA was #1 even before the hitscan nerfs. It show’s there’s a level above gm/low top 500 with pharah.
Not really, but its a meme that many think.
“But muh aim brah, muh aim skillz!”
She deserves to be a must-pick since she’s the main character in this game.
It doesn’t feel Overwatch without Tracer. It’s like playing a Batman game without the Joker as the main villain.
…To obtain a given reward. The skill and effort input doesn’t mean anything if there is no reward resulting from that input.
You just proved my point. You increased the skill requirement, but you didn’t increase the reward. As a result, “Widow 2’s” rewards output/skill input is too low to justify picking her over just plain Widowmaker.
If, however, you also increased the rewards of “Widow 2” to keep the reward/effort ratio the same, then she would fare about as well as the current Widowmaker with regards to viability. Taking your example, if we also made it so that killing one enemy grants “Widow 2” two more free kills on the enemy team, then suddenly she’s really good despite her other nerfs.
…At which point we come back to the question of skill. Which Widowmaker variant is more skillful? Is it more skillful to click on one person’s head twice to kill three people, or is it more skillfull to click on three heads once to kill three people? The best way to tell would be to see which hero’s pickrate drops the lowest.
There isn’t much difference between a 1000 hour Widowmaker and a 5000 hour Widowmaker either, and people tend to place Widowmaker on a pedestal for being “high skill”.
No, it shows that YNZA is insanely good at Pharah, good enough to produce the rewards necessary to reach such high ranks.
It’s called Overwatch, not tracer. She’s only the MC as far as the product box is concerned which isn’t saying much given that no one buys physical copies anymore.
It’s more like Oblivion without the annoying fan, everyone except for a few are happy they are no longer around.
She’ll be meta when she doesn’t get instantly kill by half of the things in the game
Yeah it feels less annoying ![]()
On the outside, you might think, hey tracer has 3 blinks, a recall which essentially gives her 300 hp (really doesnt), she’s a busted character. And it’s completely understandable to think that way. However, there’s more to her as a character than what’s normally presented. Playing tracer requires a lot of gamesense— a lot. More so than Genji, Doom, Widow in my opinion.
You said you can find the high skill heroes by sorting the GM overbuff and looking at the bottom… That implies that you value high effort and low reward in determining skill. Sorry but I just don’t see skill like that. I see it as 'Can i differentiate myself, can I be above other players using skill (honed by practice) ’ trash characters or ‘low skill’ characters don’t allow that.
For example Moira, I say past a certain point there isn’t much difference between the players. You say there isn’t a difference between a 1k hour widow or a 5k hour widow but it’s definitely more that moira, thus Widow takes more skill.
Yes, and that’s what happens with heroes in this game. They are weak and their payoff isn’t there.
nah

It has to be either Wrecking Ball, D.va, Doomfist, Genji, Tracer, Widow or Ana
