To the Overwatch Team, from a Level 5 Endorsement Player

I’m having the opposite experience. I enjoyed endorsements at first, but then I sat at level 4 for six months and found that I couldn’t put enough hours into the day to actually get to five.

Unless I played tanks and healers literally 99% of the time I played, I could not get to five, and even if I had four golds as a DPS, I’d maybe get one or two endorsements every other match.

After going down to 3 and back to 4 about five times, I no longer care about endorsement levels. I’ll leave matches as soon as they’re toxic or stress inducingly frustrating, or as soon as I’m on a team where I’m expected to fill for the 18th time.

It has created antipathy in me where formerly I had none.

The system is not exactly perfect in fact it is one of the worst things introduced to the industry, that doesn’t make anyone negative. We wish the system would be improved in the future.

The endorsement system has made it much harder to tilt me :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

When I get a game where there’s a specific player kicking all of our butts (or just my butt, lol), I endorse them after the match. It helps drain the salt away by letting them know “you may have been my enemy, but I want to acknowledge you for doing such a good job”.

I can’t get past 4. I’ll reach it, Play a few games and regardless if I get endorsements, give em back I still fall back to 3… I gave up

Just make it work in Mystery Hero…

He’s the community manager, he wouldn’t have had anything to do the the creation or implementation of the endorsement system. Yet here he is speaking for the devs taking the thanks on a system that for the most part serves no real purpose outside of lootboxes. It doesn’t negate toxicity and doesn’t fix in game issues. Getting level 5 is a hard thing to do yea but its just for lootboxes in a system that can be abused to get to that level. I’d much rather just play the game. And I’d much prefer some the pressing matters with the game be acknowledged at the very least instead of the constant self congratulating.

Wait…Endorsment can go up above 4!? :open_mouth:

haha you deleted my comment, how absurd is that. What is wrong with the mods on this forum…???

“ENDORSEMENTS MEAN NOTHING!” I have seen plenty of people at lvl 3/4 who are absolutely toxic players and even go as far as sabotaging games. OP says he got endorsed more because he played tank/healer also true.

It’s a half baked feature that does nothing in its current state.

You realize the reason that became against the rules is because people were giving death threats to the devs right, who knew context was a thing and mattered? Thanking the dev team isn’t against the rules being a jerk is though. Ppl always think they are so clever finding loopholes when the only loophole is their lack of understanding.

I mean the forums is basically 90% that, I would stop replying to it too. Reading the forums you’d think the game is just constant problems. Also one person is nice and someone says thanks and you guys all post some really noxious posts holy god.

I am still waiting for a Level 5 endorsement not Mercy main player.

That would be a beginning for me to have some faith in that system.
The idea itself was nice, but it just created fake niceness and failed its purpose. You shouldn’t get endorsed for playing heal/tank, but for being a good person.
Also, people don’t endorse as much if you don’t win.

Overall it’s nice to get some extra lootboxes, but the level really doesn’t mean that much. The only thing it can tell you is if a player is a particularly bad person, if they don’t even have endo 1.

I have literally never seen anybody do that.

It would be nice if you could earn endorsements in Arcade. Aren’t we just as worthy as regular players of earning recognition and rewards for teamwork, sportsmanship, and that other stuff?

The only level 5 I’ve met was a somewhat toxic Mercy main. Personally, I’m bouncing between 3 and 4 constantly, often more than once in a single day.

In my experience the endorsement system has good intentions, but doesnt work as it should. People just throw out random endorsements just for the sake of it.

I recall getting tons of shot caller endorsements and i wasnt even in voice chat.

I play qp and play Mercy, I usuall at least get 1 or 2 from ppl, 3 is often, 6, well I’ve gotten them three times, and I’ve never even talked. I wonder if my endorsement level decays when not logged in for a day?

The only thing that sucks about endorsements is that if you play with your friends, it’s hard to maintain a level 4-5 endorsement level. If I solo queue, I can easily get to level 4 endorsement, but I’d prefer to play with friends – where we can’t endorse each other even if someone had an awesome game – so I waver between 4 & 3, but mostly stay at 3.

i’ve seen lever 4 doing that, so must work

Are you saying endorsement level affects matchmaking?
I average a 3 endorsement level, every time i disconnect from a game (twice a week at most, usually not in comp) I drop an endorsement level regardless of whether i join back.
I feel like the toxicity gets worse every time this happens.
I also never see 5’s, are they just locked away from me? Like quarantining my toxicity from these pure level 5 souls? I’m not mad, it makes sense, but it’s kind of funny too if true, the idea that we’ve made a safe space for a small percentage of players.

The only thing I am salty about is losing endo for games i leave in freaking quickplay and arcade, especially in arcade where i can’t even GAIN endorsements and the fact that any level 4 (i’ve been there briefly before internet issues) can tell you that you need to farm endorsements regardless of player behaviour just to be able to hold 4, this creates potential for a lot of people to get endorsed that don’t deserve it just for a chance of the player returning the favour to the endo farmer.
You also rely on a little luck in getting other high endo players, because everyone knows your best bet at farming endos is off another farmer.

Personally i’ve given up with it as it just feels like a cheesy fake handshake most of the time, i just try to keep my endo at 3 for lootboxes, however if there’s actually a matchmaking advantage in keeping it high thats concerning.

I’d appreciate the system more if it wouldn’t be so bad. I get “you dropped down to endorsement level 3” once a week because the moment I don’t only play healer or tank, the endorsements stop. No one endorses dps. The only way to reach 5 is to constantly play tank or, even better, healer, which defeats the purpose of the system. The endorsements aren’t supposed to be about who you play, but about your behaviour and teamwork. The entire system is flawed.

It did improve the community at least slightly I feel, but gosh. I don’t want ro constantly play healer, but that’s the only way to even have a chance at level 5, and the only way to stay at 4 without dropping once a week.

I have. A lot. I’ve heard friends saying “I’ll just give everyone the shot caller because it’s the rarest one”.

Good for you. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same. Here in SA, no one uses the LFG anymore, so when I use, I can find at most 3 or 4 active groups and I usually get in games with 200 ping at least, because they’re from NA. Also, even though the fact that we’re playing in groups actually improves the game experience (since you actually communicate with each other), most groups I found were still as toxic as soloq players - and as no one uses the feature anymore, we usually end up fighting against a full stack team that actually practices together frequently, so we’re often stomped.

I do like the endorsement system, but I think it would require some overhaul. It would be nice if endorsements were part of the matchmaking algorithm, but it probably would lead to even longer queue times. Also, it would be nice to have “de-endorsements”, so you could downvote toxic people (however, the weight for this should be smaller than the positive endorsements, to prevent trolling).

Anyway, I don’t know what could be done to improve the system, just want to mention that it doesn’t work that well everywhere.
