It totally ruins any enjoyment of the game. I have had the game since day 1 (OW1) and I use to really enjoy the game. It has totally been destroyed and Blizzard just sits in silence and addresses nothing. It is a total disappointment.
It is definitely annoying. I just do not understand why we cannot have balanced matches in competitive and open up quick play entirely. That would be more fun both competitively and casually.
Oh no, it’s worse than that. Blizzard isn’t sitting in silence, they’re saying OW2 has never been better. Core players are telling them so.
So basically, doesn’t seem like it’s ever gonna get better, Bad.
SBMM is not implemented in this game. It has been said multiple times from the overwatch team that it is 100% based on just wins and losses counts.
If there was actual SBMM, it would be balanced MM. This is not SBMM, this is time based matchmaking + connection based + whomever is “kind of” near your level. (+/- 2 or 3 whole divisions, I have seen silvers in diamond, plats in masters etc).
SBMM would permit within only 1 division- and queue times would be significantly longer… but the games would feel very good. AKA the game could go either way and the opposition has the same skill as you. You actually feel challenged, and when you win, you feel good because it was well earned. You also improve in a better “classroom.”
We do not have SBMM or any form of it. It is what i mentioned above and whatever the heck MMR based is. THE MMR IS NOT ACCURATE in the slightest btw.
Overall, Overwatch is in the best state it’s ever been in.
The truth is the match maker is better than OW1. It was worse back along and has improved but that doesn’t fit the negative narrative. People will still lose matches which is the problem those complaining have (cue disingenuous comments regarding stomping others) and the match maker will be blamed regardless. Quick play needs to exist in a non-SR limited format so people can play with whomever they choose, competitive already exists with SR limiting.
I’m sure you believe that. Good luck.
riiight.
Not like the game still puts GM / Top 500 players against literal gold players in arcade / qp…
Overwatch 2 may be in the best state it’s ever been, but Overwatch as a whole, hell no.
It’s arcade/QP! It also uses different MMR to competitive. This is okay, especially if said player is grouped.
We have a ranked mode if you want tighter match making.
That has NOTHING to do with matchmaking. When a gm ques with a metal rank friend what do YOU think should happen?
If you get this in ranked… then its a problem.
The fact people dont understand what qp is still, yet complain about the matchmaking in it blows my mind.
Both use the same MMR, Quickplay / Arcade aren’t as strict as Competitive resulting in shorter queues.
Gold to GM isn’t a subtle skill difference, it outright turns into a stomp for the GM player which may be fun for the GM if they don’t give shyt but quickly turns sour for both sides.
That is IF, they’re thrown into such games solo as well…
The quick in quickplay still doesn’t mean that it prefers time over all quality of the match.
Having no fighting chance because “it isn’t Ranked” is so fun!
But clearly I just care too much about even getting a fair fighting chance for modes which don’t drive that fair playfield as their main motive.
Yeah i play with friends in qp nightly from bronze to gm. And If i solo que i may be joining a lobby with any combination of said players on my team. And a reflection of that on the enemy team. It doesnt fill a lobby of bronze with 1 gm player and say kill em all. If your metal ranked and you want a restriction closer to you, then you need to play ranked. If you want a solo que also… k. But to say matchmaking is broke cause your silver and the enemy has a gm with out also acknowledging the silver on the enemy and the gm on yours its crazy.
that would be absolute garbage
I never claimed it is broken, but I still claim it isn’t fun for how its operation is intended.
And you’re assuming that the game even went with facing off 2 gm against another with whatever rank is taken as a stand in.
Trying to balance 1 high rank with 2 mid rank and the remaining filler still doesn’t make the experience for the remaining players present balanced.
They still face off against enemies that are better at abusing mistakes, ones they unlikely would face in an environment that actually aims to be balanced.
The issue I am taking with the system primarily isn’t that it is giving you enemies that are stronger than you but that it claims to be a “balanced” match while doing so.
Statistics alone don’t paint the whole picture for how the match turns out.
Pretty much this…you will gain the same amount of SR after matches if you played like a GM or bronze player now…the only thing that matters is if you won
If people don’t think that impacts matchmaking….I don’t know what to tell them
Yesterday had a clearly new tank player against a GM tank. Multiple games.
It’s infuriating. Like, a loss I can take if the game was balanced, but it just…wasn’t.
Yeah and it blows for players like me who are only 1-2 divisions higher in skill than the division they are in game, because that’s not good enough to consistently carry. I had to give up caring about my rank because I’m constantly yoyoing from high silver to mid plat back to silver back to plat back to silver back to plat.
That’s due to a) being a support/Weaver main and b) only being plat and not being able to absolutely crush every silver player I come across (because some of them are probably also gold/plat).
So whatever. I just consider myself a plat player no matter what it currently says next to my name cause if it’s not currently plat, it will be again soon. lol
Wait… SBMM means skill-based match making, right? So, a match making system built on matching people based on a metric that represents their individual skill levels, right? Something like MMR. The rating system based on Elo rating systems from chess that only take into account wins, losses and the respective skill difference of the players.
Matching by MMR, thus, is SBMM, no? You’re kind of saying SBMM is not implemented in this game because it is implemented or am I misunderstanding?
Or are you saying MMR doesn’t care about whether you win against better opponents? I’m pretty sure it does, at least according to the devs:
MMR changes based on the result of each match, with the amount of MMR you gain or lose depending on several factors like how highly rated your opponents were or how recently you last played.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the underlying algorithms are indeed the best they’ve ever been.
But because of 5v5 being inherently more snowball-y (I know there are positives of 5v5, just saying) and the constant influx of new, uncalibrated players, the matches might still feel more unbalanced than they did in OW1.
I think they should remove sbmm, cant have chill game anywhere if you are a high mmr player. everyone with meta picks and trying their hardest to win
