đź“ť Thoughts on overall hero balance at the moment?

Are there any heroes that you personally feel stick out in terms of balance? Either being too powerful or too weak?

Do you feel that generally speaking, the game is in a good spot of balance or not?

What changes would you like to see?

And finally, what are your thoughts on the PTR changes?

Please include your rank and most played heroes in your response, it would be interesting to see if there are any patterns following these.

Honestly probably the most balanced the games ever been.

Balance is fine in my opinion now that Brig has been killed. You can run all sorts of compositions around the 2/2/2 stuff and have it work provided you are not playing like 3500+ or something.

Most immediate one is that they should replace the Reaper changes with this one:

I feel like Mercy and Soldier could use a slight buff. Preferably, 55 hps for Mercy and 20 dmg revert for Soldier.

Mercy will rise again. I like it.

Um… no, off the top of my head:

Orisa is still underwhelming bar bunker comps on escort maps

Junkrats underwhelming

Mercy and Moria are both second fiddle to Ana

Doomfist has been sledgehammered

S76 is second fiddle to hanzo and Ashe

McRightclick has dumbed down the hero
and didnt address the real issues with him

Sombra, Torb and Symm are all still weak and niche after their respective “reworks”

The pharah changes were bad

Storm arrows make hanzo overtuned

Reaper is going to dumpster everything from bronze to plat which is just going to lead to the next hate circle jerk against him from tanks and support mains all the while he is still irrelevant in higher ranks

Actually… I think you’re kind of right.

As a response from myself, I think that:

  • Junkrat feels pretty wimpy. His ultimate feels good, though.
  • Doomfist’s nerfs have hit him a bit too hard.
  • Orisa doesn’t compete with Reinhardt enough aside from on a small selection of maps.
  • Soldier: 76 feels decent, but kind of redundant now that McCree is more powerful, and Ashe is in the game.
  • McCree’s buff likely went to the wrong part of his kit. I don’t mind that McCree was buffed, but I don’t think FTH needed a buff. I don’t think FTH feels overpowered at the moment and you can work around it, though it does feel cheesy.
  • Symmetra is pretty weak outside of very team-work centric compositions. She’s got a good amount of utility though on certain maps.

These are from my experiences playing ladder in diamond at about 3200-3300 SR, and from a good chunk of playtime in diamond-ranked scrims.

it looks alright to me but every character was made boring in the process.

where is my upgradable turret and where are my armor packs for the bros?

I always forget about Torbjörn, I barely ever see him in ranked or scrims. He’s got power when played well, but sadly when I see or think of Torbjörn, I just get reminded of people throwing or something. Sorry that actual Torbjörn players have to deal with that reputation.

I think he could take a straight buff without issue.

I primarily play as support. I’ve been rotating between all of them lately. When I first started playing the game I mained Ana/Lucio then moved over to Mercy after Ana/Lucio got changed then moved over to Moira then to Zen, then bounced around through a few other heros. My profiles public and you can see my hero selection history on Overbuff if you are super curious. I was gold the one time I did placements in January/Feb of 2017 a month or so after I started playing and I was a gold if I recall correctly. I doubt I’m much better or worse.

I think that the PTR changes are a mistake

The armor change isn’t precise in what it nerfs and buffs and it will damage the feeling tanks have of well to be blunt being a tank.

The Reaper change makes him a massive threat at point blank that isn’t really fun to fight against but, he’s so bad at closing that I don’t think he’ll scale well. His being countered by CC will possibly lead towards more cc being used which honestly isn’t fun to play against.

The changes to Brig are liking dropping dirt on someone that’s on the ground they don’t do all that much but, it’s still flustering.

The changes to D.Va damage her ability to tank without really hurting her ability to shut down major abilities/plays and in my view that’s another bad call. Tanks should be Tanky.

I think the balance is terrible. I am significantly more useful to my team on some heroes than most others and their are heroes where I groan whenever I get one on my team. I think the majority of the heroes in the line up are not balanced.

With that said, for many of the heroes the balance varies by rank.

Ana for example is overpowered at the top of the ladder but, in pro play she’s not used all that much, and at my skill level in QP I do not want an Ana on my team.

I also think the design behind many of the heroes is really iffy and creates situations where people are happy when heroes are down.

For example, Sombra and Doomfist both clearly are having major issues and are both absolute annoyances to play against.

This also leaves heroes that are overpowered that people pretend are totally balanced because they aren’t very annoying.

Lucio and Zen are generally considered “balanced” despite both frequently holding above average winrates across the board and regularly being dominant in pro play.

No OP hero. Overall balance is good. Some heroes still on the weaker side.

Moira needs Fade at 5 seconds and ult buff.

I’m also sick of Moira’s beam latching on a friendly mei ice wall. That still ain’t fixed.

There are a couple heroes that I think are on the weaker side. Some of those being Bastion and Torbjörn.

I’m very happy with balance right now, especially in the support scene. Right now, I think supports can be properly chosen around the rest of the team and there aren’t any must-picks. It feels good.

The only thing that still irks me a bit is how I almost never get killed by Hanzo and think “Wow. That was a really good shot and definitely on purpose.” His killcams always seem accidental to me.

Masters+ flex player here.

I agree, I don’t feel that Hanzo is overpowered, but from experience playing against him, as well as playing him in scrims, he feels pretty spammy. Many headshot kills that I get feel accidental, and many that I die to do, too.

Here is my entire thread specifically talking about this, if you want to read, heroes not mentioned dont need changes, im not particularly happy with the balance and i feel it needs improving

Im plat and i main

  • Bastion
  • torbjorn
  • symmetra
  • briggite (newest addition)
  • Orisa

Hanzo is in an odd spot

His stats say he’s balanced, but in game he is a hyper mobile tank busting all range silent assassin

reaper is kind of the worst one i think, he’s more or less a melée hero that can’t do much.
try and compare reapers kill speed with tracer from 10 meters and you’ll see.
both are supposed to be up and close with the enemy, one utilizing mobility and the other using lifesteal.

the one change i want with reaper is decrease his spread, his fall off starts at 10 meters but his most effective range is within 1-5 meters, i think he needs a bit more lee way in terms of range and maybe more reliance on aim than he has now, that way people who can aim can get more out of him and he’s not so crazy limited in range.

that might balance him out too so he’ll be better higher up and slightly worse lower down.
