Ok I think I can answer all of your previous questions using that question, people care about the race and identity of a character because those people are from groups that were marginalized and discriminated, being able to see yourself and your culture represented in screen with a dominant white cast is just nice to people. Saying we shouldn’t care is essentially saying “fu$% your culture, who tf cares about you”. This is why movies like black panther hold such a cultural significance when groups that were marginalized and treated as subhuman before are given the same spotlight which shows the world is moving progressively away from the very VERY problematic past.

So, what, you’re saying race determines the viability of heroes om a certain map? Yeah, I’ma call BS on that one.

  1. Heroes are good on certain maps because of their kit design, not their race.
  2. There is high ground on every map and there are chokepoints on every map.

What, are you saying that people can’t hate people of their own race? Really?

Sorry, but people aren’t defined by their race.

There is no reason as to why not, and there is no reason as to why other than personal motives. In the big picture, it shouldn’t matter. People shouldn’t get upset that there isn’t, say, an Eskimo or an Amish hero. Nor should they really be overly excited about that aspect of the hero. It should be treated as normal instead of some momentous occasion.

If a hero is Asian, they are Asian. If they are European, they are European. It doesn’t really matter outside of the game.

No it isn’t. People’s culture’s should be respected. That shouldn’t be news to anyone. A hero being a certain race shouldn’t be a momentous occasion. If people want to be represented, sure, that’s fine. But I don’t see much point in making a big deal out of it.
Because in the end, they’re all just heroes in a video game. Heroes that are unique in their own way. Similar to how we are all human but still individually unique.

Sure, DF is really good on Numbani…

Pls…

Here’s where you get lost in translation about black.

First it’s a skin tone.

You put a Hatian woman in there she doesn’t necessarily identify as black.

At the same time nobody thinks, oh its the Wakanda Panther. There are people from africa that only identify as their tribe.

And how much black do you need to be black?

Because don’t act like Ana at no point in her ancestral tree just stuck to Arab, egyptian lineage only.

While it matters it doesn’t matter to because it’s much to do about nothing like Soldier being gay.

Yay representation. Still seems like lazy tacked on writing that doesn’t move the plot to OW.

I got multiple ethnicities in me but most of society only sees the dark hue of my skin. Not my cherokee great grandmother or the jewish blood of my paternal grandmother and so on.

Yeah technically you are right about those female heroes not being black.

Scientifically speaking highly possible they have the heritage somewhere along the line to qualify as black.

But then again you would have to say what is black which ultimately is an opinion because everyone on the planet that shares the skin tone or even those that are light skin agree or disagree with that as their identity.

And do you really do call outs in game like, shoot the black nigerian male, white british lady flanking, old german dude got 10 health?

Tldr; unless blizzard gives us access to their genealogy of heroes who knows what they are. There’s more omnics in game then plenty of ethnicities. Should we protest that too?

What? Are you okay? Do you know what reading comprehension is?

Would you like to explain yourself or do you actually expect me to answer those questions?

No one ever said a characters race should be a big deal but again, everyones perspective is different on this, while you may not care, many others do, and the devs stated how much they care about cultural diversity within their game.

Also I think we’re derailing the original post because of how it was about characters being racially profiled incorrectly. It doesn’t matter is its a video game character or not.

You should tell people what that specific meaning is because apparently many people don’t know it.

Not very helpful (educational) if you just say this and this and this are not it.

People do act like that at times and I asked a question regarding why, because I see no point in doing so.

And that’s perfectly fine but I wouldn’t make a big deal about it. I wouldn’t go about saying “Oh, this is a totally new and revolutionary design!”. No, I would acknowledge it as cool, and then act like it should be normal, because I do think that diversifying things like this should be normalized and should be treated as such and expected.

I believe i answered that question in a previous response

100% agree on how it should be normalized, i think its just that its rare to see a game tackle so many different cultures and people of color which is why people care more about it in this game specifically

Sure, that’s perfectly reasonable.

You know, sometimes it really is best to just keep things drafted.

What possessed you to make that public?

Ironically that just makes it harder to read…

If you want an African hero you should say that. I think more goes into a hero design than skin colour.

I think a hero with a spear could work. Like that black warrior chick from marvel.

Getting rid of the condescending tone would go a long way in helping people digest that information.

Get a load of this take: What about Orisa?

You think this is new? Like theres not a hundred gazillion people in the world that just call you “White” because your skin tone?

I mean Doomfist is there. The whole “outrage” was about also being a woman apparently.

I am disturbed by the lack of knowledge on ethnicity vs race.
