No. Black means different things in different cultures. The typical Western definition doesn’t apply everywhere. Education.
Pretty much. Nobody seems as concerned with affixing labels to people as we Americans do. And it’s funny because it’s not “racists” doing it. It includes a bunch of self labeling and making up new categories to satisfy that urge.
Thank you. Everytime a thread like that pops up I have to explain to everyone how these heroes aren’t black. My ethnology professor would be proud.
you expect americans to actually understand race? They just want their next virtue signaling fix.
Because it’s still absurd that in a game having half of the cast being poc they would still screech that we don’t have specificially afroamerican women (which we’ll get in overwatch 2).
What’s about afroamerican women that’s so mandatory to have in everything?
I really dislike americans sometimes, because it feels they have to always label everything, but only things that are found in america are requested. They are utterly unable to realize there’s a world outside of america
same bro…or bra…or…uh…idk, though same…
hey… :c
imma go sit in the corner now
btw i would point out i have no issue with black people and i understand representation matters to people.
It’s just that i’m puzzled just how much people DEMAND afroamerican women specifically. That and americans conveniently always demands about minorities present there ignoring all others
You’re right about culture influencing hero design but the silliness comes when people get way too into labeling them. For example, I’ve seen plenty of arguments over whether Lucio is black. Brazilians would mostly say he is but American keyboard warriors would say he isn’t and get very offended on behalf of “actual black people”. It’s a pointless argument at that point since terms aren’t the same across cultures.
