This is peak ignorance for me

True
20 characters…

I mean thats a you thing.

I personally can’t see how this would upset someone but to each their own I guess

OK, and? Like, I don’t see the point in obsessing over what race is in the game or not.
If a hero gets added, they get added.
If your race, gender, sexuality, etc. gets represented, cool. If it doesn’t, cool.

It shouldn’t be treated as some momentous occasion, it should be treated as normal.

But I wouldn’t refer to Tracer in or out of game as “Tracer that one British Caucasian”. It would just be “Tracer”.

that really depends on the country, Western countries have the obessesion with labeling people as black white, latino non latino etc

but since Overwatch is more nationality based I think we are specifically talking about ethnicity, which is Sub saharan africa or African - insert secondary ethnicity

its a story based game, the devs have openly said the story of the character heavily shapes their gameplay

imagine if all the characters were euro males in a game about the story of the world, you wouldn’t get to see much abilities and conflict would be mostly limited. Lots of characters nationalities cultures reflect their abilities in game. Black south america is influenced a lot by music, which lucio represents for example

You have a point, but the characters in game are pretty clearly not sub saharan, and at this point it’d be distasteful for blizz to claim any partial ancestry.

Yeh I agree with this

wouldve made more sense to me that way

if we’re going strictly skin color and not actual ethnicities…we do go sojourn on the way…and who knows…maybe efi?

sometimes i hate this game.

efi is a weird one because she is pretty much labeled African, the country shes from is completely made up for some reason

Why did this get flagged?

basic internet rule 101…if the topic is in any way shape or form related to the topic of “race”, politics, religion or sexuality…flag flag flag

This is literally basic knowledge, people from India are not black, they are asian.

Once again: OK, and? If the devs decide to integrate a certain race’s culture into a character’s story, then cool. If they don’t, cool.
It shouldn’t matter.

  1. Abilities aren’t limited by the race of the hero. Having a shield isn’t limited to Germany. Being able to bend and manipulate light isn’t limited to India.
  2. If the game devs decide that’s how they want it to be, then so be it.

OK, and? Why is the race of a hero so important to people?

? you see it in every hero its how they not only have a connection in the story but in their in game interactions

its no mistake that rein is good on eichenwalde and hanzo genji benefit from the amount of walls on Hanamura lol

never said that, conflict, as in how the story progresses, what heroes hate others is necessary for a story or some sort of plot/narrative

because thats literally who you are

its the same reason people want representation in tv shows, movies, it adds a perspective and diversity to the story

and honestly, why not?

your argument is that it shouldn’t matter, but thats more of an opinion then an actual basis of argument, I don’t see why people should care if they add a black women, or a slavic person etc

I- what?

How is this not important? This isnt about the game, its general culture.

People here dont know indians are asian, they probably think a tanned white person is black.

This is concerning

This is something entirely different

Is doomfist black? Last thread about this I engaged with I got a lot of really thoughtful and good responses that kind of shifted my perception of the issue. Somebody also mentioned that they had to be from sub saharan africa to qualify as well.
