This game made me cry

I was and am a Paladins player. Recently I bought Overwatch on Christmas and haven’t stopped playing 1 second. I said to myself that this game is sooo fun. Today I launched it and… I get in a game where 3 enemies have 5 stars level 50 accounts and the others have at least 2 stars accounts. The highest level in our team was 34. We git beaten in 1:30 minutes and… they started saying how stupid and shi8 we are, laughing very hard at us. I said ok, it happened only once. Next match same story, but this time they used every bad word they knew. I just closed the game and strated crying asking myself why there is such toxicity in such a fun game… Now I don’t know if I want to open Overwatch again… I want to but losing so fast is not fun, but being also insulted and laughed at is horrible. I don’t know, is the matchmaking so bad beacuse I’m playing clssic Quick Play in the arcade? I never decide what role I want, so normal qp is not suuuper fun to me.

Edit: If I would choose normal QP, I would either go support or dmg, since I like Sombra, Widow and Ana equally.

This happens basically to Overwatch not being “newbie” friendly.
OW has one of the WORST learning curve/experiences that you will ever see in a game.

Its tutorials basically only teach you how to move and the ability keys … the rest? you should start with bots and know maps, objectives and then heroes but the game doesnt “coach” you properly and even hides stats (no scoreboard) so yeah, welcome to OW.

Classic QP attracts a lot of the toxic people in this game. This seperation has made it difficult because people who don’t like the 2/2/2 are forced into Classic QP.
If you keep playing, you may enjoy normal QP as you might find a hero / role you enjoy the most.

Well you will see smurfs in the future almost on every match and this situation will repeat itself again and again. Blizz doesn’t see problem here.

Overwatch is a game that’s bad for anyone who takes this kind of thing too seriously, to be honest. I’ve had one instance where I got so mad because of someone else in this game being toxic toward me that I had to put the game down for the night. For some reason, that person got under my skin.

Most of the time though, I ignore it. Key thing, in my opinion, is playing with people you know. Play with friends. If you play with friends, the experience is much better, just like any other game.

Oh, the toxicity never gets better. I would level to 25, queue for ranked (which will give you more balanced matches) and not join chat. That is realistically the best way to go about it. Sorry that was your first experience with the game. It makes me really embarrassed to be a part of this community to be honest.

Just today I started getting some games where there is one person who thinks they know things and wanted to play everyone else’s game. He was bossing me around, wanting me to ride on top of the payload with Rein (to shield Bastion). I knew what I was doing. I secured two picks to get the payload moving. He kept yelling at me.

During the POTG (Which the bastion received) it could clearly be seen that when I pulled my shield up from where I was, I was protecting him. I ignored it, but a couple people on my team stood up for me and told him off for his bad attitude.

I don’t mind following one voice, or reacting to call-outs… but don’t talk in this tone/attitude like you’re stuck with 5 helpless souls and you have to hold everyone’s hand. I will just straight up mute it.

There is a lot of fun to be had, and even when text chat goes sour, it is very easy to turn it around and accept the loss, I have noticed. Just continue to be positive and and find your own way to success. It is okay to criticize, but the second someone applies a hint of un-needed sass… well it’s going to be a quiet game for them, along with 0 endorsements and no card vote.
Sink or swim, buddy.

QPC generally attracts the worst types of people. Competitive aside, I never seem to have issues with toxicity in any other modes.

Please never go to competitive hun, it’s the most toxic part of this game.

You’ll be a lot happier playing QP or Arcade.

Can someone tell me how to turn off chat please ?

Never forget your average OW player is male, about 14 and half-savage. If you accept this fact, it makes digesting the childishness a lot easier. I routinely simply mute match chat, as 90% of the time its “gg ez”, “trash”, etc. type comments even after a close match. I had a Lucio boop me off the edge of one of the Greek maps (cant remember the name) and had the temerity to laugh in chat… I had forgotten to mute it, and I am thinking… how petty. Then I reminded myself: half-savages. Mute chat, match chat at least, then likely you will find muting voice is good. Some times I mute even the team. IOStux and a number of coaches say its best since you don’t tilt and are focused on improving your game play. Most people don’t communicate well or know how to leverage comms until Masters anyhow when its recommended to turn it on only to listen at first.

Blizzard games are pretty infamous for their extremely brutal introductory phases, specifically involving other players, WoW is almost exactly the same, whereas in FFIIV, you can literally ask someone to help you power through the Main Story Quest and they’ll stick with you and help you get stuff set up so you can be self-sustaining. In some cases, for months.

OW community is not very friendly, go into settings and turn off Match chat, this is what allows you interact with the enemy team in chat, and if your own team is being toxic turn team chat off as well.

Type /hidechat, you’ll have to use that command every match, Ctrl+Shift+C also works i think, i’m not really sure about that one.

At this point the game is trying to determine how good you are, so your matches will be unbalanced for a bit, but should get better.

I also recommend not being in voice chat, and to hide the text chat as well if you don’t like it. The keybind for this can be found somewhere in the controls section, I can’t remember what it is originally.

I do hope you are able to keep enjoying the game though.

While in a match if you press P on your keyboard you should get the menu that looks like this:

There on the far left where it says match you can click on it to disable it like shown in the picture. You can also choose to turn off chat for your own team and voice chat.

You can also mute individual people on your team (both voice and text chat).

Overwatch isn’t noob friendly? Lol It isn’t skill friendly. Noobs can beat good players by picking the easy heroes.

It’s the most noob friendly game on the market
