The tale of Fukaroda Ichijoji, Sojiro’s Samurai (Tank Concept Backstory)

Fukaroda was a long time friend to Sojiro, long before the arrival of his two sons. The imposing man served as Sojiro’s right hand, enforcing his commands, cutting down those who would question or oppose him, and if need be, give his own life to defend the Shimada family.

As Genji and Hanzo grew, Fukaroda became something of a second Father to them. He aided in teaching them the art of swordplay, and kept watchful eye over them when Sojiro couldn’t.

After the death of Sojiro, Fukaroda continued to serve the clan, more so for the sake of Genji and Hanzo then anything. When word of what the other elders were trying to get Hanzo to do reaches his ears, he set out to stop the eldest Shimada.

Alas, Fukaroda arrived too late, with Genji in a bloody mess and Hanzo having vanished, he swore to never again allow someone he cared for to be injured. Taking a sword beloved by Sojiro with a dragon design along the blade itself, Fukaroda took off to locate Hanzo.

Several years later, the man returned to Hanamura, once again crossing paths with the eldest Shimada sibling. It was there he also learned that Genji lived on, though not as he remembered him.

Fukaroda has sworn an oath to defend the Shimada Siblings, using Sojiro’s own blade. With the knowledge that both siblings live, and that Hanzo walks the path of redemption, Fukaroda now sets his sights on finding Genji.

There’s something that doesn’t sit right.

Why did Fukaroda just leave Genji in that bloody mess instead of trying to help him? Seems quite neglectful of someone he cared about like his own son.

Fukaroda believed Genji was already dead, and his primary concern became Hanzo at that point. The other elders knew how loyal Fukaroda was to the family, and they also knew that seeing as he knew that they were the ones who pressured Hanzo down the path, he would likely cut them down in retaliation. Therefore, their solution was to send assasins to kill Fukaroda as well

Still, why just leave him there? He could have given him an honorable burial or something. I know that if someone close to me died I wouldn’t just leave the corpse there and walk away.

He cared for both brothers, so just leaving one’s body to bleed out without at least paying respects seems a bit off for his character.

Since Genji was still alive, Genji could have called out for help or to Fukaroda. Even if he was unconscious from blood loss Fukaroda should at least have checked for a pulse.

If someone who is practically your family is dying or dead, you don’t just assume they are dead, you check for any possible chance of life as you don’t want to lose them.

A fair assessment, to be sure. I suppose I just found the shock factor he would experience finding out both brothers were still alive a good thing

I think it’d be awesome if the ability functioned like Octane’s (Apex) or the Dark Knight (FFXIV). Sacrificing health, CDs or mobility to give yourself a boost in damage or defense is an option OW hasn’t explored enough yet.

Love the character’s backstory btw. Sojiro’s samurai? Sounds cool as hell.

I wanted to add someone with ties to the Shimada Family who wasn’t just “Genji/Hanzo’s Long Lost sister” or a zombie Sojiro
