Gonna be 38 this year. I remember playing Super Mario Bros for the first time in 1985 at a display counter in a JC Penny’s in Carson California.
I remember playing that with my kids. They’d get to 8-1 and then hand me the controller at the big jump. You know, the one where you had to land on the single square ledge and then jump a second time. Then it was my job to beat the game.
Good-for-nothing princess was never there anyway.
That jump was the devil. My big sister would clear it for me.
Indeed. There was a reason they called it “Nintendo-hard”.
Keep being your hardcore self and keep on gaming, dude. My mom’s 70 and has familial tremor, and she’s still kicking it with games like The Witcher and what not. She’s not into PvP or I’m sure she’d be on here with you on OW!
Well being 50 I have been around i guess since the beginning with pong and 12k modems. I love video games and always will.
here is me making the youngins get off my lawn
you should! it would be a blast!
that core group of guys (we be all nerds), we have had been ruminating over a D&D campaign for over a decade. Never started. Of course, now that the children are all older, in elementary school and above, and our careers are stabilised; we all figured that it would be a good time to start. Seeing that no one wants to be the DM, i took it on myself to do it; especially since i was keen to see how the 5e rules play out versus the old 2nd edition AD&D rules.
I thought that guys would be reluctant and thought it campy but surprise! The core group all jumped on it with enthusiasm, gutso and sometimes, grave seriousness. Moreover, i believe that us, being older now are more respectful and understanding than when we were teenagers playing AD&D. So things are working out rather well.
Do it, Zeeroh!
Been playing D&D and now a pathfinder campaign for 30ish years, every thursday get together with good friends for some table top RP time (even preordered pathfinder 2.0)
I still have a first edition D&D box set that has paper dice.
Yes. Exactly this. I mean, back in our day there were no open lines, much less direct lines to the devs and trust me, it is even worse here in Singapore. So all we could do is just try and beat the game, no matter how difficult and no matter how broken.
Basically, we made the best out of the a bad situation and made things work. Which is pretty much like life, right?
So when i see all the young 'uns here whining, yes, whining; i just think to myself; just get with the programme and stop being so self-centered, so entitled and understand that people have things to attend to.
To add to the cool artifact list, I’ve got a First Edition Monster Manual hardcover sitting on the shelf next to me. 108 pages of glory. Well-worn too.
Alright, my fellow old 'uns,
i guess that i should share this. There is a group of gamers, literally “The Older Gamers” (https:// www.theoldergamers . com, you guys know what to do ). I have been with them for a decade now and predominantly in the MMORPGs section for Age of Conan, Lord of the Rings Online and now, Final Fantasy XIV.
I think that this global gaming group might be an ideal community for us, old gamers, to hang out with likemined and same age folks.
No hidden agenda. Just sharing.
Also, if any one is interested, i can post in my first post, the battletag of us old 'uns so that peeps can add each other on the friend’s lists as well as the mains or roles of the characters you are playing.
Since this is being brought up, what characters / roles, do you all play or gravitate towards?
Myself, when i first had a look at the game prior to purchase for my daughter, i was attracted to both Reinhardt and Mei because well, D&D and having a love for Macross (Battletech, yes, played the tabletop too) and all mecha & i like CC characters.
So now, i find myself playing all the tanks, particularly Reinhardt and supports like Moira, Lucio and Mercy. When i can, if the group set up permits, i would do a Mei.
How about you guys?
I prefer damage dealers, Like Pharah and 76. When I feel like causing confusion i switch to Junk or Moria. I love watching the kids scatter.
yes i was briefly inspired after watching stranger things… but with my new born and 2 year old and full time job im swamped. but alas one can dream.
lofty goals right. theres a great game on steam u should check out. its called Talisman online. it was once a table top but now its fully digital, i once sat in a single game for over 4 hours against 3 other people. i havent been keeping up with it (overwatch being the only thing i put my free time into now), but i know its cross platform and u can now play on your phone. altho getting away with a 3 hour game at work is a challenge in itself.
Only 3 more years until I can say hello
43 here! Soon as guilds come about we need to start the old school guild :P. Add me if you all like, I play often.
I usually play tank and hybrid healer/dps in most games.
That’s what I’m looking forward to. I’m on Xbox and wish I could get a group of folks to run real strats and comps with on a regular basis…
Talisman…yeeesss… i also remember spending hours with friends from High School playing the tabletop. I always took either monk or the death knight. For the monk, i liked how Will could be used in the attack score, which also explains why my favourite DC character has always been Green Lantern (Hal Jordan).
I have held off doing it online via Steam because nothing beats tabletop, imho. Am actually mail ordering it to play with my family =)
For D&D tabletop, yes, i know how it is like. As i mentioned, my buddies and i have been talking about running a campaign for over two decades since we were in university. However, only now could we do it because our children are in elementary school (at least), for those of us who have children and our careers have more or less, stabilised.
Congratulations on the newborn, btw, Zeeroh. I miss my children being babies but am thankful that i have a little more free time now =)
