And more “if” requirements are in the way, less agency there is. It’s especially bad, when requirements are for multiple players at once, as chances of condition to be met drop in geometrical progression with each new player, that has to meet that requirement.

Least they can do is make Valkyrie require just 1 good teammate to be good ult. Not 5.

They’re not going to rework a character that is performing extremely well while also not breaking the game consistently. You can’t have an easy-to-use hero that is also the meta. You can pick one. Ana is an extremely high skill hero and that is why she is the meta. Mercy is not going to get a rework because she is balanced and preforming well right now. She is not as good as Bap or Ana because they are extremely high skill heroes. That’s how it is

Do you think Mercy’s role in the game would have been any different if the rework hadn’t happened?

One thing is for sure - she would be bigger thorn at the side of DPS.

Hard to say she was bottom tier choice for support when she had MR-well up until invulnerability where she became a bit “better” but was mostly picked to abuse SR.

If that bug was addressed sooner then she might have been pushed back to mediocrity-especially if they continued to introduce heroes like Moira or Brig.

One could argue that Brig might not have happened because if Moth Mercy didn’t happen then the over extended stay of Dive followed by DragonGrav and Double Sniper wouldn’t have happened-since Mercy would have just been a “meh” pick.

But we won’t know-all we have at the stats from before the rework (which are bit more accurate because those are before private profiles)

Goats wouldn’t have happened, if MR wasn’t removed.

Yes it would. The team picking Mercy would get hard stomped.

No, wouldn’t. Goats appeared, once Moth was eliminated and everyone suddenly realised, that damage is excessive. Which, unsurprisingly, led to tank-heavy comps and, eventually, to Goats.

GOATs is a thing because the team that came up with it didn’t have a good hitscan/sniper.

It was only a matter of time at that point, as without resurrects, requirements for DPS players increased by a mile. Either you kill enemy squishies quickly, or you are a liability to your team - since no one can give you second chance anymore.

Not to mention before GOATS there was slambulance. Regardless of whether Mercy had MR or not, people would eventually start to stack tanks and supports.

They wouldn’t, as they dislike to pick them. When we still had resurrects, stacking was simply unnecessary - even if you are 200hp hero, you get back in combat quickly.

That’s not a problem at T2 and T1

Even there people have their preferences and would gladly pick anything else. But, once again, with resurrects out of picture, there was only one option left.

Survivability can be maintained in 2 ways - through resurrects and through massive sustain.

People at that level put aside their preferences if it means a better chance at winning.

Resurrects would offer better chance at winning, as they allowed to maintain DPS. Other supports can’t do that - healing is no good against instant death and we didn’t have Baptiste back there.

Why would you trade having better sustain during the fight for an ultimate that only has impacts after you have deaths on your team? Being able to win a teamfight would only be possible with the ult online and even then rezing your team wouldn’t make much of a difference if the enemy team still had better sustain and overall utility

Because said ultimate charges rather quickly, and better sustain is countered by better damage DPS offer.

It took specific circumstances to make DPS obsolete and create Goats. If Widowmaker wasn’t so good, that it would counter any attempts to pick DPS, for instance, Goats would be exclusive to team, that invented it. If resurrects weren’t mostly gone to counter Widowmaker, it also wouldn’t appear.
