Changing names and other aesthetic things while simultaneously doing bad things in the background is just a symbolic change. Keep defending those changes which just meant to make blizzard looks better in the surface only, and that’s what you’ll get. A surface change.

Overwatch team did not do the bad things in the background, 99% was WoW team and other 1% was Diablo team
I swear I’m typing this 100x a day because people force Overwatch to inherit all of WoW team’s abuse scandal

Yeah it’s kinda annoys me that some persons and journalists are saying that the people who left the Overwatch Team have something to do with the blizzard scandal which isn’t true. This is confirmed by many OW developers on social media…

The ‘aesthetic’ and name changes are done by and for the developers in the case of mccree. The ow devs have nothing to do with the allegations past working in the same company as the people accountable, as far as we know.
The people we should be mad at are the employees who did wrong and the higher ups who allowed it to happen, not the developers for changing a name that was inspired by an alleged abuser.

The name change and the WoW changes are done by blizzard as an entity. While the document shredding are also done by blizzard as an entity. That’s why i stopped defending blizzard as an entity, that includes any corporate decisions they made (which includes the PR aesthetic changes) until i really see the REAL changes. And with more of the investigation coming up, i don’t see any changes except the symbolic changes. Keep defending symbolic things and you’ll only get symbolic changes.
The OW team mainly is changing cowboy’s name for themselves

Then they should’ve announce it only internal team 4 and wait until they finished preparing the name change, voice acting, and lore before announcing it.
With the way they announce it early to the public before everythings ready, it’s for them to be looked like “Blizzard is changing to be better” PR stunt.
It’s just a symbolic change at this point. Nothing more.

I agree with you on this to be honest. By doing what they did, they put WAY more attention on the real life Jesse scandal than needed to;
myself and many others didn’t even know about him until they started doing this whole name change campaign
They were kinda forced to announce something, cauz they got pressure from journalists and social media users. It wasn’t the best way how they did the announcement but I can understand their situation and I agree on the name change of cowboy.

You act like they’ve only changed character names/art and done nothing else. They’ve appointed new company leadership (at Blizzard, not Activision) and fired many - if not all - of the key offenders. Obviously that doesn’t mean everything is suddenly fixed, but it’s not like they’re ignoring the problem either. I expect we’ll know more about this situation (what has happened in the past and what Blizzard has done to help improve their culture) when it gets to court.
Clearly there are other issues still going on (shredding/hiding of evidence, union-busting, etc) but at that point, that’s not really a ‘culture of abuse and discrimination’ issue anymore. Those are issues of white-collar crime and the unfair/immoral culture that pervades corporate America in general - and if what’s happening at Blizzard in that regard makes you angry, wait until you hear about the banking and finance industries. 
My point is, they’re not just changing character names and updating art assets and otherwise doing nothing. That’s like 10% of the story.

I know my worth. It isn’t dictated by my job, but I also happen to be paid more for my work because I don’t work in the USA.
From a middle-eastern european this “You get what your value is” is such a socialist-capitalistic thing to say. Excuse me for this comparison but that was the only age here when someone said things like that.

So waitresses are basically worthless in the US. I mean, doesn’t the us have the lowest minimum wage compared to other western countries? Isn’t tipping a very important thing for them?
Also, what if women were always seen as having less worth than men in Blizzard? We all read the news articles, right? You know. Those articles about the sexual harassment to the point of suicide and women having a lower paycheck.

Waitresses make 90% of their money on tips, which is usually far above the average.
Then you get what is going on now; an investigation.

So 90 % of the income is based on alms from their customers.
And if you are unlucky and customers don’t give tips because of reason where you can’t do anything against it then you are screwed.
