Even in your quote they stated they don’t balance solely off of stats so when people’s main argument here is stats, well, it’s not a very strong argument.

Yes. It is. Because they are arguing that the feelings are biased. Proving that the feelings are not grounded in statistical facts goes a long way of backing that claim. If the feelings aren’t based on facts then some other cause must be driving those feelings. Hero Bias, Overwatch league viewing numbers, general distaste for all CC, that kind of thing.

Symmetra probably got her turrets nerfed over the cc thing but some other reason clearly existed for the rest of them.

All the stats we have here are pick rates and win rates which are incomplete due to private profiles.

As for the causes that drive whatever feelings, they are not necessarily hero bias, OWL numbers, it could also be:

We also should remember that things like win rates and hero power/effectiveness can fluctuate significantly depending on the players’ skill level. If someone complains that Reaper is too strong and another says that Reaper is too weak, they could both be correct for their current skill level.

When making balance changes we typically look at the high end potential of player skill for a hero but also try to keep in mind if a given change would be a significant detriment to the overall gameplay experience in lower skill brackets and attempt to find better solution if so.

It’s possible that they nerfed Sym because they felt her power level was detrimental to the gameplay experience.

Whatever it is, I don’t believe it’s because “we love Genji and hate Sym.” That’s the biggest “feeling-based” argument that has zero stat or fact backing that up. And as Josh said it:

Game balance perceptions/opinions are often repeated and perpetuated enough that they start to become accepted as fact by many players.
