Symmetra Mains, how would you change Symmetra to be more effective? (Closed)

Now, while I have been playing Sym, I’m in no way in a position to say what Sym needs. So, rather then make a dysfunctional change list that would probably ruin her, I’m going to ask the people who actually knows what Sym needs, and how she would be changed. So, I’m going to make a Google Form asking what her main problems are, and what you would do to fix that. I’ll post the results once I get enough info. You’re welcome to post your change list into the replies as well!

Simple - revert all the nerfs she got after the two weeks she was “viable”. That simple.

Sym needs to return back to the supportt role and get a proper rework. Period.

as a sym main, this is the worst iteration I’ve had to deal with. Its not as fun as the other forms and its bland.

Here are all the reworks i’ve created for her. feel free to read some when you can.

she’s already really strong, but the game has better alternatives in nearly every scenario

she’s not a burst character, she’s a sustain character
however, the game simply favors burst right now, and because of other bursts, and her lack of self-defense, she can’t survive enough, and her own sustain does nearly nothing better than burst in most situations

turrets and teleporter hold her back, low tier play sees turrets too strong, teleporter can make bamboozles frustrating, so they can’t be buffed at all without making it a nightmare for them, yet in high tier, turrets are barely an ability at all, especially at 30s cooldown for all 3, and teleporter rarely works when the enemy is competent enough to deal with it, and even when using it for a simple high ground on defense, it barely makes a difference, because if there’s anything a teleporter would make too strong, then the map itself is the problem, making it a must-pick, but she’s clearly not a must-pick, rendering it worse than it even really is

As someone who played symmetra since 2016, I would like to say I fairly enjoyed her when she was in her 2.0 state with shield generator and proton barrier.

I don’t even think there was an issue with her kit at all and they just changed her because she had low popularity. But if a character is balanced, what’s the point in changing them?

I think everyone was upset over the fact that she was in the support role and mad over the fact that she couldn’t heal. While that thought makes sense, I don’t think it’s true.

Mercy back then used to be mainly a healing focused type support with only one utility. Mercy had high heals back then because she sacrificed her damage and utility for the sake of healing, that was one of her flaws.

The same situation can be said about symmetra. She sacrificed healing abilities for the sake of having a 100% utility based kit, which I LOVED the idea of. It made her stick out from the rest.

When the team needs more support rather than heals, symmetra was your girl. She provided so much utility with her turrets slowing down enemies, damaging them, acting as sentries for the team. Her photon barrier helping push in the team without sacrificing rein’s shield before the fight began. Her beam helped attack flankers and helped when DPS couldn’t aim ( no shade ) her spheres helped finish off low hp enemies behind shields and destroyed bunker. Her teleporter helped bring back allies. Her generator created more strength to the team. Her whole kit was the PERFECT utility kit. But people didn’t know how to use her besides actual symmetra mains and that unfortunately got her changed. All in all I love sym 2.0 and would love to see it come back.

I miss original Symm where she was pretty much that a Support. The Symm when I joined was my favorite. I stopped playing her after they ruined her into a DPS.

With the wide selection of dps and the relatively small selection of support, I would rework her BACK to support.

  1. Her ult is support based as it is. No change there.

  2. Change her turrets into health beams rather than damage beams.

  3. Each beam can heal up to 20hp per second and can only heal one player at a time, the nearest one that is below 100%, and is within range and LOS.

  4. Turret beams cannot stack. or example, you cant have all three aimed at your Rein.

  5. Primary fire is the death beam that ramps up as it does now.

  6. Alt fire shoots healing orbs at teammates. As it does now for damage, the longer you hold it, the more healing it can do.

This would give her plenty of flexibility, give us a good new healer, and spice up things a bit.

Support Sym with reworked photon shields and they can heal. Similar to Zen.
No healing beam, healing orbs or healing turrets needed.

Literally the devs said lets give Symm a huge supportive wall and teleporter on the DPS rework lmao

Fix her teleporter. Blizzard brought the cooldown from 2 seconds to 10 which is stupid high, especially when other heroes get ‘ruined’ with a +1 or +2 nerf.

Literally achieves nothing outside of that one player’s spawn taxi dream or if Sym dies at best. (and even then, start the cooldown on build or reward a lower time on destruction ooc)

Sym 3.0 felt pretty good, it just needed a projectile speed buff, either on the orbs or flying sentries.

Used to write pages on how to help sym. Most players don’t play her so they don’t know what changed which is why so many still call this one sym 3.0 when comparing it to sym 2.0. :face_with_head_bandage: Now I come back after some time and see that the forum kings got their +25 health buff they kept pushing for but no one sheds a tear for her 5x slower teleporter.

Oh and bonus: Echo entered the game with an excellent projectile speed, allowing her to poke midrange without any charge mechanics or build time in her kit.

Primary fire from 60/120/180 to 80/120/180
(Doesn’t increase top end DPS but makes level 1 beam less of a tickle stick and more appropriately powered.)

Alternate fire can now be held indefinitely instead of auto-firing after 2 seconds
(QoL feature that doesn’t improve her raw damage but helps her fight against flankers and Zarya bubbles)

  • Revert to 1.0
  • give 1.0 the mini rein shield
  • balance like everyone else gets balance tweaks and changes
  • ???
  • ???
  • break even cuz symm won’t ever profit but she does what she needs to do. She’s a specialty product you carry so people come in and buy it but your money is made elsewhere
