This is not accurate. We have over 40 million players who have played Overwatch at some point of time. According to the recent investor call in early February 2018, it was reported there was over 37 million active users across all of Blizzard’s titles including World of Warcraft, StarCraft II and the likes.
I considered this too and asked myself which route would lead to more toxicity. A couple people not playing the heroes they wanted, or everyone playing DPS and getting stomped. It won’t 100% get rid of toxicity but I think it would be better than what we have now.
Im not liking the idea of role queue and forced 2/2/2. What if you or a teammate are having a bad day on tank for example. Currently you can ask a teammate whos better at tank to swap with you and the problems solved. Also having forced 2/2/2 is going to kill off those wacky strategies like 3/2/1 and etc. Hopefully its only an option and not forced for everyone.
Around 11:30, when talking about 2-2-2 lock:
“For example, you take a character like Brigitte, right now honestly , if you play Brigitte in a non 3-3 comp, if you play Brigitte with only one other healer, it’s a trainwreck, it’s terrible and so, that character actually needs to be balanced differently.”
Well, that’s gonna be a though maze to navigate folks.
Yeah to be honest I’m VERY surprised Jeff of all people kept shifting blame on the VERY COMMUNITY that supports their game.
This first happened when he said the slow content and game system updates were due to them having to work on curbing player toxicity.
And now this “careful what you wish for” BS. You’re the devs. Players will always ask for things, IN ANY GAME. It’s YOUR job to take the feedback selectively and use YOUR expertise and experience to decide how to better go forward with changes.
DAFUQ is this blaming the community for things? If you as devs took community wishes and implemented something that failed, IT’S LITERALLY YOUR FAULT FOR NOT DOING YOUR JOB WELL ENOUGH.
I said this before, but there now trying to blame the community for their lack of content and the fact that they put out busted characters. Instead of just nerfing dive characters he makes up this scenario that no one wanted dive character to be nerfed, so they just had to bring out busted brigitte. Has he not seen the nerf tracer and genji threads? What a shame
Wait, hold up, hold up… Did he seriously blame the community for turning a support tank hybrid into a solo counter dive character? Rofl. This is why they do not want to talk. Their PR department fears when Jeff goes off the rails like this. If it is true, that almost has worse implications than if it was false. Ha ha ha… wut?
I know. I just like to meme them on that point ever since Jake went on Good Morning America and lied (I’m willing to believe it was a slip) to the world that the game had quote “35 million active players”.
You are quite welcome. I personally found this to be a productive interview.
Great interview. Thanks for the summary.
It doesn’t matter how many players the game has if some roles are fundamentally more popular than others. The queue becomes the storage area for the “excess” players in other roles.
No, it’s not. They created Brigitte because they don’t know how to balance their game so that dive isn’t heavily favored. They create a sledgehammer solution instead of adjusting heroes that made dive so strong.
This gives me hope, as I have utterly given up on “Competitive” Mode outside of simply doing my placement matches.
As long as I know that Role Que is eventually coming, (and it does indeed sound like it is), then I am OK with waiting.
I think Jeff stating this, is good timing, considering the current state of Competitive Mode.
If i tried quoting the good info i’d just be copying the whole OP. Very good interview.
After a second watch through, I did elaborate on the key point of long queue times for damage players. They could turn on role queue now as he said there is literally a dial built into the game editor.
So no role q? If I didn’t forget this is a competitive game.
You may want to rephrase this.
What he said was more along the lines of the compositions and play styles on the PTR don’t line up with more serious play.
Plenty of people don’t have a high opinion of him/his work (myself included) and could/did jump to worse conclusions than what he actually said.
No role queue… yet. They want to rework the matchmaker so that queue times are not overloaded for certain roles.
If they force the roles and I am not able to switch from Lucio to Soldier for example because our hitscan cant deal with pharah or something, im out.
Going back on one of the 3 principles the game is based is going to do it for me. If its only in comp, will never play comp.
How on earth is he disrespectful?
