Streamers don't even play OW anymore

Every single overwatch streamer I know of has played nothing but marvel rivals since it launched lol. I understand Netease ran promotions and payed them initially but there’s no way it’s still in effect. A month long promotion for every single overwatch streamer sounds wildly expensive and unlikely. I think they genuinely just like the game more than overwatch. It’s doing extremely well.

I hope this actually opens the floodgates and more devs start making their version of overwatch since they see someone was actually able to compete with blizzard which for a long time has been considered very hard if not impossible to do. Blizz definitely is not on top anymore. Poe2 and Marvel rivals are currently winning over Diablo 4 and overwatch.

Flats was actively wanting to play Rivals while farming drop voters for the skins.

Like the dude is only playing OW for the bag which I don’t blame him.

I don’t blame any streamer who prefers a game that makes them happy.

I hope they keep putting their happiness and finance before misery for the sake of the “game that made their streaming career”.

Streaming is also a business, they go to whatever brings them money. Entertainement is a bonus.

Thank you! Someone who gets it!

There are some content creators that I think were exhausted by the same core problems in OW, especially in Top500, and I think Marvel Rivals gave them an escape.

There are others that I think are following the hype, but, honestly…it’s mostly the former. They just really like Marvel Rivals, and Overwatch hasn’t fixed the issues that are making the game unbearable (5v5, Widowmaker being strong, balancing heroes around low rank, etc.) that have made the game not fun for them.

Happiness comes second for them.
Money first. When they have the choice between money alone or money + fun, they would take the 2nd option.
But they would never play a fun game that doesn’t earn them enough money.

they might areturn after mr doesnt cater to them

I beg to differ. If it was purely about money they would have quit OW a long time ago. I would argue they all built communities around the game but they have slowly been shifting away from OW and being variety streamers. A lot of the major OW steamers have slowly been taking breaks or playing other games from time to time.

Emongg, Flats, Jay3, and all the others seem to fully be moving into the variety space but that is just speculation at best.

But if it was all about money I think all in the OW space would have quit for one of the major games like LoL which always has a major following.

i think thats a pretty big reach as just about any time i check out their channels (until rivals anyway) it was almost exclusively OW

but it is absolutely money first with streamers…their skill set of course having an influence on where they might be a successful streamer

i dont fault a single one of the OW streamers for following the numbers…they would be stupid not to be streaming rivals given that their skill sets directly translate and its popular

I’m sure tons of steamers would love to be able to variety stream. Problem is most will lose a massive amount of their viewers when playing other games. Ppl often watch for a specific game. I haven’t looked at any of their numbers, but I assume they kept more while playing rivals as it’s not only new, but the same genre as ow.

Also I wouldn’t blame people who streamed ow like 5-7 days a week for years for wanting to play a different game.

They all took breaks and played Elden Ring, and flats has been taking the most breaks of them all. But ya I agree they do love the hero shooter genre.

I think they are genuinely checking out Rivals since it is a direct competent competitor to OW and it is doing well. It would be silly of them to not check it out since Blizz as a whole is floundering hard in OW, COD, and Diablo. Conveniently all 3 of those games got a competitor in the last few weeks. While cod is not a direct competitor with rivals it is of interest since cod has a really bad cheater problem right now that probably is pushing people to try different games.

Hopefully OW does something to get their min streamers back. If OW dips to low then Rivals can become just as bad as OW is right now with no proper competitor.

… and would bring in millions in copycat followers skin/bp dollars.

So no it wouldn’t be too expensive or that unlikely.

This doesn’t mean that Rivals ISN’T better for all those streamers financially and psychologically…

Just that I wouldn’t say they’re not being paid.

its not all bad…samito is over there instead of here

tuned in today (wondered if he was fawning over the game) and immediately laughed as he was screaming at other players on his team and then started berating a viewer telling him he was beneath him cause hes lower ranked than him

Ya true but one thing to remember is hemorrhaging players good and bad is never good.

they earn plenty from their sheep fans and their streaming platform royalties

all for sitting on their butts playing a video game. what a world

Except you have to be a clown, so say good bye to any dignity. Viewers love streamers, that rage, go mad, etc.

People cant wrap around the idea of Marvels just feeling better and bringing so much that OW did not deliver for years. Audience is one thing, but they could jumped the ship with so many other games, but choose Marvel. Why? Because its what OW should have been.

Marvel rivals dont feel like trash to play 99% of the time, u dont get toxic abilities, fun denying trash thrown at u constantly. AND the characters doesnt look like clowns like most does in overwatch.

Genji Oni is easily the coolest one in OW, the rest is like miles below that while in MR the bottom is Genji Oni

idk, august hasn’t streamed rivals once

I’m being naive, I know, but I kind of feel bad for team 4. I mean, they’ve pandered so much to these streamers throughout the years, almost to the point of neglecting their own player base, and those guys jumped ship so fast…

I remember some of them pushing for 6v6 to the point of becoming a meme, and now, when the mode is finally available for testing, they’ve barely played it.

I wonder if Blizz will learn anything from this.
