After playing Blizzard products as long as I have and watching the creation of online video games over time… I gotta say…
…Sorry this is just “player entitlement” abuse from the reporting parties at this point. If people don’t like how others are PLAYING the game. They can FIND 5 other friends and go LEARN how to function in society. Otherwise if a person Q’s with randos they NEED to get over it!
“Sabotage” is literally the lamest scapegoating ever done by players. and why it was ever brought into fruition is beyond me. This is the big thing I see every day on Overwatch is; SCAPE GOATING and WITCH HUNTS. I go back, watch the replays and Just scoff at the accusers vs the acused. Often times it is the ACCUSERS causing their own problems in the first place!!
"the mercy wont heal me, report" - The accuser is seen rushing into the enemy mob and taking damage, and then their 4 or 5 other friends in their group are going to SUPPORT their “IQ 5000” friend’s opinion. (all because the Mercy was SMART and didn’t feed into the enemy team).
I can think of thousands of unrealistic reasons to report someone for “Sabotage”. including but no limited to:
"im having a bad day and want to pin the blame on someone ELSE for my problems.
" They looked at me funny".
I dont like that hero.
They didn’t do what I say, so my ego matters more.
Witch hunts that occur during matches.
This is why players have a bad time in the first place. Creative comps and metas can no longer be brought about, because players are too afraid to do anything because elitists will take offense and their 4 other “friends” will go on a witch hunt with them…
I’m curious. Let’s say we have a mercy who is with a friend and will only pocket them and do nothing else. Do you think that’s gameplay sabotage? Because I remember one example of someone doing this in my game and when I told them they’re throwing the game they literally told me, “idc I’m having fun.”
It’s not throwing, sure. But he proved he is NOT able to get to GM, and he went on a GM account to play that same hero that he could not get to GM to.
Him circumventing the matchmaking system like this is probably why he was banned IMO. He did this ~on stream~ lmao.
Hate to break this to you, but if you proved that you can’t get to GM to a character and swap to a GM account to play that same character and fail horrifically, then YES YOU ARE. YOU DESERVE TO BE BANNED. You have to lose ~SO MANY~ games to derank from Top 500 to Diamond.
Excuse me??
You lost me. This is the POOREST logic thus far. “he can suck if he wants” yet somehow you want to say “he isn’t throwing”.
I just don’t see many gold players or otherwise making this distinction as they rage report someone. They’ll just see bad gameplay and report and point at Stevo as justification.
Do you mean that people will get reported in gold for no reason? Or that they’ll just automatically see “this person is not performing well at our level, and since Stevo did this, then it must because this person is a lower rank than us”?
None of this is rhetorical btw, I am genuinely unsure of what you meant and I want to understand.
[edit]
NVM saw your earlier reply and I understand now.
I don’t necessarily agree but I can understand the concern. It might create a pattern of behavior of reporting someone when you assume they are a lower rank. But the disparity in skill between bronze, silver, and gold is minimal. Might even add Plat there. But the difference between Diamond and GM is…really high. There’s a very big difference.
If anything, hitting a certain # of reports equating to an auto ban is a problem and should be abolished.
I mean, the OG Ban was 100% justified, because, yeah, if you acknowledge you’re a diamond sombra play on an alt. The second ban was 100% just automated reports and one bad game. He was going to play Symm into Doom/Pharah and swapped sombra. He was doing reasonably well and clutched a few things on both Symm and Sombra in the few games he did play. He showed how he got the second ban, by sitting in a custom lobby and going “report me for gameplay sabotage.”
It’s this one. I mean this probably already happens, but I kind of don’t want people who already do this feeling even more vindicated in their reports. That would be very obnoxious.
Ya you didn’t even try to understand what I was saying on the last point.
If you don’t play at GM level in GM, then you will lose sr and go down a rank. That is the cost. The cost should not be a ban. If you play a hero that you are not good at, BUT STILL try to play and win, but lose over and over, then you lose your rank. End of story.
The only poor logic here is that you think GM players have a responsibility to play at that level 24/7, then if they don’t, they shouldn’t be allowed to play the game anymore. Absolutely crazy.
I definitely agree with that. I edited my response earlier, but I think the skill disparity between Bronze to Gold (maybe Plat) is so minimal that…it’d be really dumb to report someone for that. Diamond and GM is vastly different.
The auto-ban feature needs to go - that is just a given IMO. That’s the problem. The fact that some of these bans aren’t from manual reviews is…obnoxious lol.
It literally is a video game. Unless there is money or life at stake here. Take my message how you will .
In the day time I run an agriculture business, we have semi trucks, DOT #, have to maintain FMCSA guidelines, and OSHA stuff. We work with farmers and have to hire people on the side, so we can get the work DONE.
I’ve had situations here and there,… where the has been someone that sits there calling out everyone else’s faults but their own, and they spend all of their time and FOCUS on that person’s performance instead of their own work.
You know employment action was taken.…
I FIRED THEM.
Now, if this was a matter of safety, than yes. I would be calling a meeting or address it.
Part of the real world what gets alot of people into trouble is not minding their own business and acting “mature” and CIVIL. Sadly there are groups of adults even whom do NOT want to grow up and thus, this is why we have things like Home owners associations… because “Karens” (The meme term) are too worried about everyone else around them, BUT themselves. This is what causes issues.
If people mind their own business for the most part, they can accomplish big goals, such as me. OWNING a business and RUNNING it. ( ) . But if people take the path of a “Karen” watch the videos on youtube, they are VERY CRINGY. People that so heavily have to hinge off of no longer using self-reliance cause these issues and attitudes. Especially in VIDEO GAMES.
I mean this person isn’t competing for MONEY and neither are their team mates. IDK… at this point. This is why we have, what we have. This game continues to go down hill because of these exact reasons.
Again, I am under the reason he was banned is not because he was throwing - because he wasn’t. I do believe he tried his best.
But it’s the fact that he did unranked to GM, couldn’t get to GM, and decided - on stream to go on his main and play the same hero he couldn’t get to GM with - to play on his main account that was in Top 500 to strictly one trick Sombra.
That’s what the issue is. It’s the fact that he was on stream from start to finish circumventing the matchmaking to play in a higher rank than he deserved on that hero.
If he was going to swap around heroes then I don’t see the problem - he could practice Sombra, go “oh crud this is not working” then swap to other heroes he is good at. But he didn’t do that. He loopholed the matchmaker, then destroyed -a lot- of games. He knew what he was doing. He knew he was avoiding the matchmaker. He knew he wasn’t GM material and he still made those conscious choices to play in GM on his main, on a hero he knew he couldn’t get to GM with.
The second ban that was an auto-ban - absolutely should be overtuned and they need to re-evaluate their report system. Auto-bans are dumb. Period.
Other thoughts I have on this:
Playing non-meta heroes is not a bannable offense
Wanting to one-trick isn’t a bannable offense
Having a bad streak is not a bannable offense
It’s the fact he dodged the matchmaking. He’s not an idiot. He is a smart guy. He knew what he was doing. And he should be held accountable as such.
ok so you never really answered what I said lol. I assume you didn’t really understand It so I’ll try to make it even more obvious. You have a torb player in your game only using his hammer. Should he get banned. If not why not.
i think i answered your question quite clearly in context. Should the person be banned. “The streamer” The short answer is. NO.
The long answer, the staff at blizzard should suspend the accounts for their COMPLAINTS and tell them to do the same thing I would. Find 6 total slots for their group and MIND THEIR OWN BUSINESS.
I didn’t just ask you that. I’m trying to find out where your line is. Playing a hero you know you’re bad at is ok to you…fine. Playing a hero with an obviously bad strategy…you haven’t answered that yet. Mercy only healing one person…torb only using their hammer. This isn’t a trap…a simple yes or no is enough.
Going from GM to diamond in a week is more than just learning a new hero, that is throwing. GM level players can pick up just about any hero and still play them at a high master’s level. I have seen enough streams of DPS and tank players who still place within 500-1000 of their main with supports when they split the SR on the roles.
1600 drop is so far out of the norm it had to have been on purpose, or maybe stevo is just that awful at the game and was boosted.
I don’t think Stevo was boosted. There’s a few things to keep in mind:
He tried to play unranked to GM on Sombra on an alt account, and could not make it to GM
He then went to play on his main account that he got to Top500 with on Symmetra (and he earned that. He plays most of his games on stream and he is really good at Symmetra) - so he isn’t boosted, but;
He wasn’t GM-material on Sombra and he deranked even further down than his alt account
I think the ban isn’t because he was “throwing” - it’s because he circumvented the matchmaking to play in a rank higher than what he could play at, and continued to spiral down and be rude to his teammates.
