this is probably one of the worst things they changed in a while, it sucks not being able to type funny things or insult my friends when i join a game to spectate. or even apologise for being disconnected mid game after being replaced. its such a simple thing they’ve changed but its so inconvenient. the game is becoming more strict and catering to the snowflakes

If you want to type funny things and insult your friends that’s what group chat and DMs are for, I don’t need some 3rd party random making stupid jokes and comments about the game
If you are in a group and DC, your friends can still type that you left…I do it all the time when my friends DC. Not a big deal.

Yea but only qp and arcade are the only thing can spectate, so why not let people that want to interact with strangers and have a few laughs do it. instead of removing out right have the ability to just disable in the settings, like the settings they have for literlly everything else

Match chat will be gone within a year, and good riddance. They already default new players to be out of it because it’s too toxic. HotS doesn’t have it. Hearthstone doesn’t have it. WoW has an elaborate and lore breaking language system to avoid it.
Players use chat to only harass and attack others.
Players act surprised when chat gets removed.
It’s not Blizzards fault for removing them it’s this worst of humanity community that caused it to happen.

I understand baseball games allow hecklers. But not in other sports.
If you show up to a golf tournmant and start shouting during a PGA event. They will throw you off the course.

People could literally block the spectator if they wanted too.

Did someone steal your account. Aren’t you normally on the censorship side of things?
I’m on treating people decently side. The deletion of spectator chat doesn’t forward that goal as it did not foster or cause toxic behavior.
If you say toxic things to strangers you deserve to be actioned on. That isn’t censorship. That catching the consequences for your speech.

Spectator chat being removed is one of the best things they ever did.
Spectators don’t need to chat with the people playing. Best case they’re a distraction, worst case they’re trolling and being belligerent towards the people who were playing.

The community is allergic to fun and now we’re all suffering.
Just let the player be able to turn on or off spectator chat. I for one find a lot of spectators funny when they join a match I’m in. Simply make it optional for the player if they wish to see it or not
Sheesh. Can’t curse, voice line spam gone, no more spectator chat, leaver penalties in QP… They need to just nuke their casual player back at this point
I tend to agree, it seems like a really unnecessary change. If someone doesn’t like the spectator chat being visible, add an option to mute it so it won’t be on your screen.
This stinks of ‘We couldn’t figure that out, so just toss the baby out with the bath water’

The most likely reason is that they weighed up the benefits of having it (dubious) against the costs (time wasted dealing with reports, and further damage to the already bad reputation of the OW community).
As soon as they apply the same criteria to match chat that will be gone too.
