Soo...why is Echo a damage hero?

…Someone? Anyone?

Pew, pew, woosh, boom, boom, “I’m you but better” woman too cool for support role.

Because the devs thought her ultimate was ill fitted for a tank/healer.

Because losing a Damage hero every time she ults is better than losing a Support.

because no one but the community thought she was going to be a support

Because with her ultimate you don’t want a tank or a healer ulting out of their role. It make more sense for her to be a dps and ultimate into other roles rather than a tank or support into anther role.

Jeff has come out specifically stated this.

“no one but the community”… you mean pretty much everyone beside the devs? Weird way of putting it.
Even the devs tried making her a support but ended up having her as a DPS mainly because of her ult.

They could have launched her in ow2 and rushed a tank/healer though.
But we are talking about the same people that made Echo’s kit in the first place.

(Also I still think she and Soujourn were delayed because of the possible backlash they would have had launching 3 dps, using two back burn characters in the process, those being Sigma and Baptiste)

When we seen her in the Zero Hour cinematic she was flying around shooting lasers and sticky bombs… That doesn’t exactly scream support hero to me.

I just don’t the philosophy of masking what you consider “innovation” for “new content”. Why are you trying so hard to push out “new content” when there is so much that could be fixed in this game currently AS IS. New content isn’t the reason why people play this game and it baffles my when a business model for a company is to “sell new products” but not give 2 s**ts about the products that they already sell.

They forget what got them here in the first place and neglect the core principles and values that made them a company worth consuming.

Because they didn’t want a healer that doesn’t heal, like Mercy with her old ultimate

This question is as old as Echo herself, how long will this question persist?

It kinda is when your game is a live service like OW. When you get droughts of content in those cases, people tend to leave.

Also are we going to ignore the fact that we don’t have 10 tanks/healers, and yet we have 18(eighteen!!!) DPS?

*Soon to be 19, because I seriously doubt that Sojourn is a healer/tank.

Let’s be honest. Her ultimate is boring. Everything about her is boring and nothing new. A projectile weapon, a beam, a flight ability, and glide.

We still talking about this?

Because carpet bombs don’t scream “I’m a healer” to anyone besides the community

It was basically when they realized she was really fun when they were testing the ultimate.

I’m exaggerating but not really. They said she was initially going to be support. Her lore matches up with that. Her character design matches up with that.

Overwatch dev mentality is fun = DPS

I can imagine them after a play test meeting and someone says “wow this character is so cool… wouldn’t it be more fun if she just blew stuff up?”

Brigitte didn’t exactly scream support in that same trailer. She did nothing except combine her shield with rein.

Jeff said Echo was planned to be support but they didn’t think her Ult would fit a support and losing a support is a lot worse then losing a DPS for 15 seconds
