At one point there was a change to Zarya’s bubbles. The patch notes were this:
Particle Barrier
No longer protects Zarya from knockback.
Projected Barrier
No longer protects allies from knockback.
But in practice, didn’t this only allow Winston ult to knock back bubbled targets? Aren’t all the other knockback effects in the game still completely negated by bubble?
That one I had not considered, but what about coach gun, whip shot, concussion mine, soundwave, concussive blast, whole hog, etc? What makes them not “knockback”?
Yeah, that’s my point. I almost considered that those abilities may be considered some other type of cc internally, but I remembered the steadfast passive.
New Passive: “Steadfast”
Reduces knockback effects by 30%.
Zarya for some reason just gets a pass I guess?
I remember back when this patch came out I thought she was just bugged and that they’d fix it to be consistent with the patch notes but I guess they never did.
Think of the Bubble like a Shield now. So all Melee-based KB will pass through. KB that can be ignored with a Shield will be ignored by the Bubble, such as Lucio’s Boop/Pharah’s Concussive Blast/Orisa’s Halt/Etc.
Based on how I see Wrecking Ball/Winston kill people with KBing options, the bodies don’t ragdoll to the moon. So it may be that damage is registered a millisecond earlier than the KB, essentially making them 2 hits disguised as 1. That’s probably why D.Va’s Self-Destruct/Junkrat’s Rip-Tire can result in a KB. Damage breaks the Bubble, rendering Zarya/Target KB-able.
Sounds more like you’re trolling and derailing relevant conversations, while contributing hardly any relevant conversation.
Not to mention, abusing the report feature for opinions you don’t agree with.
“Someone doesn’t like my mindless astroturfing of my ideas in every remotely tangentially related thread! Must be trolling!”
You know full well it’s obnoxious as hell. Nobody wants to read the same mile long nested comment in every thread that so much as mentions that mcree exists.
When they made this change, it was pretty clear at the time that Bubble blocks non-melee based knockbacks. Outside effects like the projectile boops you mentioned get blocked normally but things like Rocketpunch/Charge/WB/etc go through since it is “melee”
The point wasn’t to make it so Zarya is vulnerable to all knockbacks but just to fix any issues with Doomfist/Rein charging and bubbled targets not moving/being stunned. She isn’t getting “a pass”, it was just a fix to keep her from being a juggernaut
Here’s the full patch note.
Zarya
Particle Barrier
No longer protects Zarya from knockback
Projected Barrier
No longer protects allies from knockback
Developer Comments:This is actually reverting a change that we made a few patches ago, which made players immune to knockbacks if they were hit by an effect from inside her barrier. This had some negative side effects, such as making targets immune to knockbacks from effects that pierce barriers, like Reinhardt’s charge and Winston’s Primal Rage punches. Now, these will cause knockback again. This does not affect knockbacks from effects that originate from outside her barriers, such as Pharah’s Concussive Blast. Those will still be blocked by the barriers, not causing any knockback.
