Sombra needs HELP!

…The changes to Sombra are nice on paper, but it just isn’t enough for her.

Dont get me wrong, it feels REALLY good to be able to destroy the translocator now, and the infinite stealth feels nice, but the fact that people can see her 4m away rather than 2m REALLY hurts her stealthy approach. FIXED!

The biggest, most prominent problem with Sombra was her hack and damage, both of which haven’t changed. Her hack is still riddled with bugs, and the 2s cooldown after taking ANY damage hurts her kit WAY too much. Combined with the LOS change, it has left Sombra in the gutter.

The second biggest issue is the fact that her entire kit can be shut down by just a few points of damage. Sombra is the most fragile hero in the game with high risk and little to no reward.

As a damage class hero, she has the lowest DPS out of all of them, and she lacks any secondary damage ability that everyone else has. Due to this, her only form of damage is her machine pistol, which is already severely underwhelming.

SUGGESTIONS

As it stands right now, if Sombra is to be released into the current game as she is right now, she’ll be utterly destroyed. As she once said, “When your hardware is obsolete, its time to upgrade.”, and now its time to upgrade.

STEALTH

  • 50% speed increased to 75%, just as before

  • No longer infinite, but on a resource meter that slowly depletes over time whenever you move, similar to the Spy in TF2. Sombra will no longer be knocked out of stealth when shot, but instead depletes her meter.

  • 4m reduced to 2m again. FIXED!

Notes: These overall changes would make Sombras more effective as an assassin-esque hero, or infiltrator without breaking the game.

MOVEMENT SPEED

  • Increased to 6 from 5.5

Notes: Since Sombra is a highly mobile hero, it would make sense that she can move as fast as Genji and Tracer, and it would increase her overall effectiveness in moving around the field if camo is on cooldown.

OPPORTUNIST

  • Sombra now deals up to 3-5% extra damage to hacked enemies.

Notes: Due to her lack of damage and her dependability on her team, Sombra would get the cutting edge she needs when using hack, making her more deadly but not too oppressive. EMP would be more valuable as well, allowing her to fight back rather than EMP’ing and getting killed on the spot.

HACK

  • No longer puts Sombra in a 2s cooldown when shot.

  • Hack can now disable Brigittes “Inspire” passive

  • LOS changes reverted.

  • Hack speed decreased to base release.

  • Damage threshold of 25 added.

Notes: With the changes to Opportunist, Sombra would be overwhelmingly powerful, and her current hackspeed would allow Sombras to keep their right click up in hopes of landing a hack. To balance this, her hack is now as fast as it was in the base game, giving tanks or any other hero enough time to turn around and react.

–IN CONCLUSION–

The current buffs to Sombra in the PTR are nice, but they dont fix the problems that plague her today. She still has a long road ahead of her, one that will be hard and long for the infamous hacker.

EDIT: Her 4m was reverted back to 2m! We’re on the right track, folks!

I’m sure there’s no Bias in singling out Baguette’s passive lol

Actually, I think Brig is fine. Shes annoying, sure, but she isn’t unkillable. I just find it weird that Sombra isn’t able to hack that passive despite being able to hack almost every other in the game.

sombra is such a cute, funny, and bada$$ character… why they gotta do her dirty like this?

It hurts seeing her like this.

If she goes into the base game like this, never hurts to become a Hammond main…

Bump. I can’t let Sombra stay the way she is right now

Good suggestions overall

Overall I do agree with your recommendations. This is possibly the most poorly received overhaul yet, at least from the people who play said hero. While some ideas are nice in concept, such as the infinite cloak and ability to delete bad charges, several of these changes don’t help Sombra in the damage department, which is big since she has to compete with these heroes (4 of which are getting an overall buff to range, which makes this worse)

I’m completely fine if Blizzard completely scraps the overhaul and tries your recommendations. I know there is a reluctance on Blizzard’s part to create something akin to the Spy from TF2, but that reluctance is what is hurting Sombra from being something more than a very niche pick.

It makes sense, especially with the spy part. Blizzards gotta expierment

Bumperino Kapperinos

She can’t hack Reaper’s either. Lucio’s aura are tied to his crossfade ability, not his weapon. She hacks activated passives, which are ones that require a press of any button except primary fire.

This is because she disables abilities, not weapons.

People open your eyes.
It says revert 2 sec hack.
That alone made her a must pick in the past. This cant be done

Can I respectfully ask why?
Back then, she never had a 2s cooldown upon being shot, and she was still under the radar in terms of power and mobility

Great post.

I love any reference to TF2, and the hack damage bonus may encourage players to go for more hacks in a critical scenario, which may not even save them, but could help their team overall.

Is the 25 dmg threshold overall, or just during hack? I feel like if hacking made you more durable during animation (even if only slightly) then it would reinforce what her character provides to the team, but most don’t use her, so maybe I don’t appreciate how gross that could become.

Finally, someone who knows what they’re talking about in regards to balancing.

That said, I have some thoughts on your thoughts. I would argue in favor of reverting Hack to the pre-2 second cooldown version (.75-second “cast time”, no cooldown when shot), I would get rid of the changes to her Translocator (the louder sound heard from way, way too far away, the fact it’s destroyable AND the unlimited duration) and most importantly I would just fix her kit-breaking bugs.

Thank you!

I initially thought the same thing, but I feel like the older one would be more realistic with the amount of buffs proposed.

Though, that being said, I love the .75 one, and it would be my dream to see Sombra with that again with a good hack buff!

All your suggestions are really great! But tbh I feel like the dev’s are reading the Forums just to see what people want and then NOT implement it, going for other useless stuff instead.

Some great ideas yo! The new changes are super not what she needs, she feels so sluggish & un-stealthy to play. Give her a silencer dammit! Make her actually, yknow, sneaky!

I’m liking the look of your suggestions tbh. I don’t care about infinite invis and translocator time she needs focus on the other more combat oriented parts of her kit. You can sit around invisible all day but what are you actually going to do, are you helping your team more than a normal visible dps? She can do that disruptor/infiltrator thing fine already she just needs to hold her ground as a dps more. She’s a tough high risk high reward type hero which is great as long as the reward matches the risk

Here are my issues/Suggestions.

  • 1 sec delay out of stealth feels awful. Needs to be faster.
  • Hack breaks way to easy. Make it instant but last for 3 seconds. This will make her more impact full in those important moments.
