Sombra 3.0 Workshop

I read numerous complaints from both Sombra players and Sombra haters, and I devised a variety of tweaks that I felt were both fair and reasonably balanced. And then I did none of those things. Instead, here’s the insane Sombra rework that nobody asked for.

WORKSHOP CODE: FBVD6

SOMBRA
:star::star::star:

ABILITIES:

REPLICATE
Sombra 3D scans an enemy, analyzing their appearance and moveset. Sombra’s tech then projects a hardlight hologram around her, giving her the visual representation of her enemy while she’s granted access to their kit for 6s (excluding the enemy’s ult).

Each completion of replicate yields 10% ult charge in addition to Sombra’s existing passive and combat charges. Once Sombra begins replicating an enemy, any currently deployed translocators of hers are destroyed. Any status effects Sombra inflicts or objects she deploys during replicate are destroyed upon the ability’s end.

Enemies are not debuffed by replicate and retain full access to their kits. Replicate casting can be interrupted by breaking LOS, leaving Sombra’s effective range (also achievable by knocking her back) or inflicting Sombra with an applicable status like stun or freeze.

HACK
Sombra continues to hack non-playable entities like B.O.B., immortality field, health packs, etc. Hack can be broken with the same rules that apply to replicate.

FIREWALL (PASSIVE)
Sombra’s defenses grant immunity against all forms of damage during her replicate or hack casting animations. Thus, replicate and hack casting cannot be broken by damaging Sombra.

OPPORTUNIST (PASSIVE)
Unchanged. Sombra continues to detect enemies below 50% health.

STEALTH
Sombra becomes invisible and experiences 175% movement speed for 4s. 6s CD.

TRANSLOCATOR
Sombra throws a translocator which remains available for use for a 20s duration. 3s CD.

INFECTION (ULTIMATE)
Sombra deploys a wave of nano-drones which infect all enemy heroes within a 10m radius. Infected targets are prohibited from using their primary or secondary fires for 5s, however they retain access to their abilities and ultimates (including any ultimates which rely on primary or secondary fires).

Notes:
The goal here was to allow Sombra to provide more value per time with less team reliance, while simultaneously making her feel less oppressive to play against. The new replicate ability turned out to have some wild applications beyond what I anticipated, so I removed the infinite durations of stealth and translocator to trim some power away from her survivability. Note that in the video, I’m demonstrating against easy mode bots, so Sombra’s new kit likely appears more powerful than it is.

This build is a starting point and likely needs tweaks.

I love this idea  .

I think its pretty cool. I think the only issue would be her passive it seems alittle strong?

Thanks! Yeah, I agree to be honest but I’m not sure how to nerf the passive due to the limitations of the workshop. The code seems to allow for either all or nothing. I’m still working on it though. Might figure something out.

Replicate seems like a neat idea for a new hero (nods in the direction of Echo and Sanjay), but it’s too different from Sombra’s existing kit to give it to her.

This sounds super fun.

I don’t mind current Sombra, but I do like this new idea for a different hero

i had a different idea for her ultimate. instead of EMP she would enter superstealth. It gives her no new abilites, the only difference is that she can use abilities and weapons and get shot without breaking stealth for the duration of her ult.

That could be pretty sweet too.

So Doomfist lost a counter…
Gooodie… Because that’s exatly what we need.

It’s a workshop. It’s not real and never will be. But personally, I’ve never been fond of the idea of disabling all of someone’s abilities as a substitute for outplaying them on equal terms.

Having said that, this code allows you to counter Doomfist with whatever mechanics are available on the enemy team. Of course if you’re a real hero, you’ll replicate Doom and mirror him in a 1v1. :smirk:

I mean replicate would be the most incredible ability in the game and would be op as hell. I love it. Let’s do it

I feel like a primary weapon duel is the most equal terms this game gets personally. Fun idea though.

Replicate sounds cool. Like something I imagine “Echo” having but with supports.

I love this idea, but I think stealth should remained unchanged IMO

I would 100% agree with that if there weren’t such big disparities between the power levels of the primaries in this game. But I enjoy that so many heroes have power trimmed from their primary weapon and allocated elsewhere in their kit.

But mixing in abilities exacerbates that, and Sombras gun is equal or inferior to most of the cast.

Ugh, this is so sad because this probably won’t even be implemented
This is such a good idea!!!
Great work!!!
This means:

  • Sombra not so “unfun” to play against
  • Sombra viable in more scenarios
  • Sombra less team reliant
    It’s P E R F E C T!

I like her gun. I have no complaints with it. The problem is that unlike her enemies, she has no mid-fight abilities like mobility, survivability or burst damage to help her win the fight; Sombra is powerless against enemies with their abilities intact simply because she has none of her own.

A DPS shouldn’t require a debuff to win a fight against another DPS in my opinion. This is why I feel hack should be changed to something that empowers Sombra to overcome her enemies’ abilities—rather than handicaps them down to her inferior level.

The thing is that silences are really common in games with lots of abilities of varying powers because it discourages too much ability stacking.

Beyond that, I don’t think there is a way to have a hero that is more or less equal in most 1v1s without a silence. Because abilities in Overwatch are very strong and intended to put heroes at big disadvantages against others.

So to me the most equal moment in the game is when Sombra hacks an opponent that can duel her, boiling things down to a level where really the only thing that matters for either of them is their aim and their weapon.

I just don’t see any ability having hero having nearly as equal results as her. Nearly every hero can outduel a Sombra of equal talent. Not all of them, but she’s got a more level playing field against more of the cast than anyone else.

I always thought of echo being a sound based hero but mimicry would actually be really cool to see
