First, that’s highly debatably.
Secondly if that’s your stance we’re at the point of admitting that balancing the game isn’t the goal here.
It’s fine for you to think that’s ok but don’t try to dress it up as a genuine attempt to balance the game. Just be up front about wanting to throw balance out the window for what you think would be the better design choice.
The point isnt about balance or cheap mechanism, I’m talking about perception. It’s unthinkable for the average forum players that they could be killed by a DPS’s primary fire, whether it takes 1 shots, 2 shots or 3 shots.
… or people are voicing legitimate balance concerns. I find it hypocritical if this narrative is getting flopped of “when will you stop witch hunting dps” seeing how from memory supports were saying the same thing to then be bashed by dps players.

Outside of GM, hitscans aren’t really a problem and in Plat/Diamond are getting outdone by Genji, hence why I mentioned the part of Genji being meta in those ranks and a lot of the threads are literally just screeching about nerfs because of what is going on in GM and not their own rank, not to mention console is a completely different story (although I don’t play on console to comment)
I am happy with Ashe. Always happy with Ashe. And not because of her dps, but because she is fun. I love to fire her dynamite.
Part of my point was though, this happens to every role, not just dps. There’s no stopping idiots and sadly most of the time idiots are pretty loud. Save yourself some sanity and just ignore idiots, however if you’re getting bothered by people voicing balance concerns in a constructive way then I present my pervious statement and once again say you’re the problem in that equation.

Didn’t the last season of OWL devolve into double sniper? I’m not 100% certain because I fell asleep watching Widow+Hanzo in the finals.
People said Soldier should be the balance around for DPS characters yet he gets a proper buff to make him a decent pick for the first time since he was meta in S3/4 and people are complaining
There were calls to get Recoil:76 reverted in the first few weeks of it going live and his stats spiked, but now? Not really, 76’s only mentioned in the occasional grumble about hitscans being top dog.

The problem with situation is the fixes.
Soldier was really balanced for the game but because of shields and healing being so dominate rather than other protections (we only have 4 which is super sad) or more utility focused support similar to Zenyatta.
So buffing the character didn’t really fix his problems, just created new ones instead.
Genji indeed needed the buff but they gave him too many so people started complaining about the balance.
Sombra & Pharah have a very similar situation to each other, they have no synergy almost at all… No tank can really help them that well and that makes it problematic to get value from them, divers might be good but even then these characters are just too slow for divers… You can’t really do much by yourself, it’s 1v6 so you’re stuck either being op or underpower.
People usually understand when there’s a problem (although some just refuse to counter) but they don’t know what the specific solution is

You’re not wrong, it’s just seems extra bad on the forums atm, when top threads are literally complaints about hitscan with no real substance of an argument, which is why I sorta made this thread in frustration

Not really making a point about any particular hero, just pointing out that metas are inherently disliked, doesn’t matter what it is.

honestly? when they stop buffing hitscan heroes. they’re the most unfun hero type in the entire game to play and go against I’d rather go against goats for another 2 years than play another match against double hitscans

Pretty much. In a game where the majority of the characters are close-mid range, snipers are overkill and make a large majority of the DPS roster redundant.
Being killed by hitscan feels natural because that s how we have played FPS for a very long time, the one singular rule that everyone can follow. Everything else like spam and CC inevitably makes you feel cheated
If I get killed by something else, I feel dumb and try to improve. If I get killed by hitscan 99% of the time there was nothing I could do in that situation.
Honestly none, because whatever kills them is overpowered.
I think until Pharah and Junk get reworked in a certain areas they’re not going to be in a good spot.
I would gladly give up Jump Jet for Rocket Jumping and shields to act as a buffer for jumps. I would gladly give up concussive blast to just have rockets knock people in the air when you shoot at the feet, like in every other Areana FPS.
I would love to get rid of Junk’s Bear Trap in favor of setting traps with remote bombs. Up to 3 out on the field at a time, so I can set up 2 and keep one for jumping out of bad spots.
I’m tired of these toddler design style heroes that limit the carry potential.
All Hanzo needed was a clear cap to his one shot potential. The arrows at full charge dip after 30 meters, so make that the cap so he’s not competing for Widow at longer ranges. And give him back his arrow speed.
