and you play tank / support and have fun.
They didn’t want to let their team down by forcing an unbalanced team.
and you play tank / support and have fun.
They didn’t want to let their team down by forcing an unbalanced team.
But that is not fun.
Neither was forcing an unbalanced team, or forcing someone ELSE to have to tank / support.
This system rewarded the most selfish of players. Let’s say I’ve flexed by tanking and supporting for fifty games and wanted to try DPS. So I pick DPS and so do four others…
The game then is to see who most selfishly clings to DPS versus people like me who realize that even if we do get to play DPS, it’s gonna be no fun without a proper tank and heals.
It was fun for me, though. Not my problem that they could not find the simple joy in playing what they wanted to play.
and should they care that you don’t find the simple joy in playing tank / support? is that their problem now?
They are having fun playing DPS now - and have the same wait times as you do.
No, they should not. That was my original point. But these long queue times? Anyone that cares about the game should care about those. I do not care if you hate me with every fiber of your being, the fact of the matter is that there will be a lot of collateral damage on the quest to destroying the young, wild and free DPS gods.
Role based SR is amazing.
Actually I quite like you We have had a lot of good chats. I hope you don’t hate me.
They are not trying to destroy the young , wild and free DPS gods.
They are facing massive falling MAU’s (Monthly Active Users) and they are panicking.
They expect to lose people from this, BUT hopefully stabilize the fall from here.
They are scared and are trying to save the game.
we lose 1/2 the players every 1.5 years. it is unsustainable. OWL is making the pressure worse, not better, since, it is overwatch players who watch OWL, losing players = losing OWL audiences.
I think they should have taken on the smurfing problem in the lower ranks first, since that way we would have a higher retention rate of new players.
You are seeing them Panic.
Yeah, there is collateral damage, and it is bad. They could have done other things, but, they likely went out and focus grouped the hell out of it, and got back the answers :
I don’t like how often it is a complete roll, I don’t like how often the game is lost in spawn, and I don’t like playing in unbalanced teams.
We KNOW they got the first 2, because the devs have been talking about it a lot.
I think this could be a number of reasons, usually stigmas. Some may feel they can’t “carry” as a tank or support even though those roles are usually what carry the most. The roles aren’t as “flashy” and it’s harder to see the awesome things a tank or support does with their “jobs” where dps is more straight forward with getting elems (although honestly tanks and some supports can still do this). Others don’t like the responsibility or get anxiety that they’ll do poorly, my sister was one of these not wanting to branch away from what she knew because she felt she’d be awful. The list could go on and there’s probably simpler answers in there as well like just not enjoying the hero’s or the stupid version of that being the stigma that they’re not fun yet those people never touched the hero’s.
Edit: also my personal opinion, the roles are hard. Mechanically not really on most the support or tank roles with a few outliers but playing a support or tank well is imo a lot more difficult than playing a dps well.
2-2-2 works fine as long people switch to counter which is clearly the real issue and this relies on us as players. Therefore, nothing will change as one tricks and smurfs like to ruin games for their own enjoyment
I know you love me. I meant “you” as in “y’all.” The whole audience. This issue is muey importante.
If I was facing falling monthly active users… The last thing I would do is ostracize the largest group. We DPS mains are allergic to ostrich as much as we are to tanking and supporting.
Is that true? Half the users? Yikes.
The new player experience is awful on almost every level. I think they should have tried to fix that a long time ago and that is very likely we are are in desperation mode now.
I am just not sure the risk will bring us the most cash money Overwatch we can have.
Albeit, let’s be real, if they had to shave off anyone it would be DPS. The tanks and supports leaving earlier was more detrimental than if we just lost players to Fortnite or whatever. Because seriously, where is a tank main going to go? Rofl… Once they are gone, they are gone gone.
I feel the elephant in the room is that CoD will stockton slap this playerbase hard… And then after the macrotransitions come through, we will be back. Let’s not even pretend.
Tell me one thing.
Did more twice as many DPS players suddenly appear with role queue?
How did the DPS mains manage to get DPS before?
Right, I know. Just picking a 3rd one after the Genji and Hanzo already instalocked, leaving the team either with one tank or one healer, or just making one of the locked in DPS swap off.
Sometimes we would not even have a tank or healer. Other times they would get salty and go 6th DPS. But if you really think about it, at least everyone got to play a cool character. I feel bad for the tortured souls forced to tank and support. I cri everytime.
Good, I was worried there
It isn’t as if they haven’t had enough feedback on it right?
We lost the Mercy mains to the MMOs. Hell we lost a lot of them to Fortnite PVE.
They didn’t return. I’m not sure where Tanks go - it isn’t Fortnite or Fo76.
I think next year is going to be hard for overwatch - like super hard.
Cyberpunk 2077
Bannerlord (if that EVER comes out, I mean…)
Vampire
Werewolf
Wasteland 3
Systemshock
Dying light 2
KSP 2 (maybe, I doubt it)
Preditor
And don’t forget the great overwatch killer - a new Animal crossing.
Having roleQ hit as borderlands 3 comes out, is not going to help the DPS numbers at all.
I just wish someone else looks at overwatch / paladins, and works out the amount of money to be had by putting out another game aiming directly at the same market.
But 4 dsp, 2 tanks, 2 support - so they don’t have the problems there.
I have no idea what Vampire or Werewolf are, but I am instantly interested. But yeah, I am going straight to Borderlands to let the weak DPS weed themselves out before I return to claim my throne as the emperor of instalocking. Maybe instead of an entire dynasty in queue I will live to see my kingdom flourish.
if you played the old Vampire : the masquerade computer game, you would be 100% interested.
It was awesome
If the playerbase unbalanced job is really a problem, maybe they could have tried 1/4/1.
But ofcourse this means all subtanks and supports will need rework and it will take a year
honestly 7s wouldn’t be a dumb idea.
3-2-2 would do a lot to fix the queue sizes.
Still some re-balancing, but not as much as you would expect.
Not really sure when we are talking about blizzard.
They wouldnt have any data for 7 hero mode. So adjusting total dps of 7 heroes can maybe take forever
