I like how the forum mob throws this statement around like they know things yet DPS has been the worst role since season 10 lmao. Every game is decided by tank picks, and if both teams have the optimal tanks, then it’s up to the supports to heal better than the opposing supports.
This game is an actual moba.
The numbers across the whole damage category are high AF and were increased because tanks and supports are just better in every way. So many shields, so much healing, damage dealers rarely get to compete with that. Heroes like Soldier are unplayable because consistent damage is useless against fast-recharging barriers and high healing outputs.
You either deal enough damage to kill someone or deal 95% and see them get healed up within a second and thrown a helping hand in a form of a bubble or a shield on top of that.
That being said, the numbers in this game are ridiculous, across all roles. Compare literally anything the game has now to what the game used to be 3 years ago. Everything is better, MUCH better nowadays, and not in a good way.

Just ignore it, he says the same stuff all the time, he even smurfs, he actively thinks his team shouldn’t have any relevance to his success, it should, to his mind, be all about one of the DPS and having all the fun and all the glory. The other 5 players on his team… he doesn’t even want them there.
I can literally imagine he gets upset by the other dps on his team “stealing” his kills.

Except for the tank/support players, let’s just destroy their characters to make the game more of an FPS and completely lose sight of what the game we all loved was

It’s honestly not hard to imagine, TF2 would have been pretty popular had the devs had the foresight for competitive.
I think Overwatch has that same potential, but they can’t keep trying to appeal to people who just don’t know how to play an FPS.
If you wanna do that, heroes like Rein and Mercy exist for a reason. You are not focused on aim or combat, but are still doing tasks that help the fight by a good margin.
For TF2, we had Engineer, Medic, and arguably Spy. These weren’t Aim focused classes, but they still had value that could be used. That to me is what accessibility is, allowing you to not worry about getting good aim and instead of focus entirely on strategy, game sense, and outsmarting people.
J.K. is going to have to make an effort to fix the current problems before he can promote other forms of gameplay.
Hitscan league would be awesome!
Until they can re-vamp the competitive system and Match maker. The rest of the game is hopeless for propelling it to a respected E-sport. Also, this game company RAPIDLY patches their game and “fixes” matches. So until THAT type of behavior is gone. It is a “NO”.
I think Mercy will do fine in an environment where it’s all about the DPS simply because she aids DPS so effectively and has great survivability due to her mobility rather than relying on barriers as much as some other supports do. She’s not in danger here. It’s the barrier tanks who are in danger.
Well, one thing is true though.
They are struggling to make Tanks more appealing.
If tanks can’t either be lethal, because they would shut down squishes, or defensive, because that’s boring in a game that rewards killing and also complaints about denying abilities being low risk - high reward, than it feels better to play DPS and be able to use mobility or lethality for the job, despite being glass cannons.
ok Jeff, I’m expecting faster moving orbs for sym to make them more aimable then…

So what’s the issue with them moving towards a more FPS style?

Destroy?
A change like this will save it, specially the tanks.
The gameplay is too stale and game declining for a gameplay not working anymore today, too slow and limiteded by shields.
Developers said their are experimenting and want to try to raise damage of tanks(they want to lower ttk overall) and lower the defence, change rein in something similar to roadhog.
This change will give a good shock to the gameplay, making it more dinamic and surely appeal more players.
I would bet 100% because they are sell outs

Well, it could be something similar to what I’ve been saying, that the definition of “Tanks” should be closer to “Heavies” from the RPG genre. And less-so about being “Damage Sponges” from the RPG genre.
Especially since the “Damage Sponge” playstyle is horribly unpopular across all genres.
And they need Tanks to be more popular, if they want to fix queue times.
And those Tank players are primarily going to have to come from Damage players, which are the largest existing player population not playing Tank.
Rather than magically popping into existence from nowhere.

Oh cool I wasn’t wrong. We are moving to 411 or dropping tanks and supports in general.
Good move imo
More likely just less CC/Status effects, and changes to Tanks to make them more lethal but easier to kill.

Well in WoW, introducing DKs and Monks to the Tank role didn’t do anything to improve tank numbers, tanks just moved around from other tanking classes. I’m just not sure OW would be any different irrespective of what you did to them. Tank is still Tank and not DPS.
Part of the reason behind hiding my profile way back, and this view has only been reinforced since, was because people would rank shame my DPS rank even though my Tank and Support were like 300SR higher. DPS is the One True Rank and the One True Spec. It is what it is.

Tbh, I think the fundamental problem is “too much WoW logic” applied to what is primarily an FPS.
Could they introduce new game modes alongside the current ones which are FPS oriented? Have a subset of the hero pool in them (quite a small one I guess) and go from there. Then people that want to do FPS can and those that prefer the variety of gameplay can still do regular OW. It would fragment the players more, but it is quite likely it would be the DPS queue that would shorten and that may not be a bad thing.
The Overwatch development team is the worst thing that ever happened to Overwatch.

If it had ‘WoW logic’ we’d see diminishing returns on CC.
That’s not the case, it really doesn’t matter what game you’re looking at - if it has the ‘Holy Trinity’, Damage is the only one that matters to the bulk of the community. That’s why the bulk of players play it, and it’s a circle of perception; it’s seen as the True Role, so people pick it up as such, and from there it’s just reinforced.
