She’s 100% lost her identity as being a hacker and stealth assassin. Unless you’re playing in low ranked games, which is where all of the whining you see on the forums is directly coming from, she’s an intentional throw pick.
A number of people who used to main Sombra, many of whom have been otp-ing her for years, are now being forced to swap mains to Tracer or Genji.
The fundamental problem you have now is that for sombra to do her assassin level damage, she has to hack. And in order to hack, even assuming she’s got a nice angle to do it without being interrupted when you are working around the stealth timer, you’re basically alerting the enemy team to incoming damage.
Meanwhile, a tracer would have one clipped them in the head already.
When opportunist went away, the only advantage was the quicker tick on virus. But broadly speaking, the damage you could do walking up to someone and headshotting them was greater and more quickly inflicted, and also from a reaction perspective didn’t have the very obvious “hack” sound for supports to react to. Granted, if they’re paying attention then the SMG is relatively distinctive but in a game full of gunfire you have to be much more aware.

Oh yes you are correct, this was to balance out the fact she was a tank terror while keeping a some what similar ttk on squishies, just more controlled and couldn’t be used to melt tanks.

Does make you wonder about certain people and their obsession with upping the hack time on tanks… possibly not the right focus.
But then, if you’re doom/ball, being basically unhackable because you’re not in range long enough is probably the goal there.
Because they don’t take into account their is another human being playing the game. And forget that the enemy is also able to react and engage to actions your doing.
Did you not know sombra can teleport behind someone, hack them and then virus and then shoot? Golly gee, thank god he told me. This is the very first version of sombra that can do it!
Definitely needs some type of sustain if they’re going to keep her like this. Damage reduction when stealthed, an HP increase, or a second translocator charge are my thoughts.
teleport at someone and have them and their team watch you turn invisible, watch you turn visible again as you try to hack someone, and then throw your virus at this person who still hasn’t moved or stopped your hack with one (1) damage, and then start shooting (with only 225 HP and your “escape” is at least 2 seconds away).

But the difficulty is ACTUALLY in winning games, not some arbitrary thing you pull out of thin are to feel better or worse about the character you are playing.
If like your in gold or lower. The moment you start climbing people actually start remembering you exist and don’t just assume you stop existing the moment you invis or TP’d out.
In high rank the sombra swap is only used to really ult cancel I havent seen people stay on sombra the entire match her new build doesnt quite work still. I kinda still feel like they just did this to shut players up for a while. I really cant see them keeping her this way especially after a month seeing the pickrate dropping to like 5% I have seen Fitzy playing her today pretty well as he tends to mostly play her around healthpacks and thats kind of a good strategy atm
