Smurfing should result in a hardware ban

So fun being in Diamond only to have a top 500 Smurf on Zarya with a Xim, why is it so hard for them to actually do something that is good for the health of their competitive mode? DOTA 2 did it and valve is a pretty crap company so why can’t the other crap company implement such a simple rule?

There’s no HW ban for actual cheaters. They just buy a new comp account for like $10 and get right back to cheating.

Oh so they’re just lazy? Funny how games with corporate backing can’t do anything about cheaters at all. Probably because it costs a decent amount of money which scares the heck out of American companies.

Back in OW1 days on PC it benefitted them since cheaters would spend $20-40 for a new OW license.

Now, yeah there’s not much excuse other than being lazy. Though maybe they have stats to show there’s a handful of cheater whales that buy more skins on the new account after getting banned.

Lol no. Smurfing isn’t bannable for several very good reasons.

Would require a even more invasive software on user’s pc. Which could generate a ton of problems, also if the player with ill intent knows how to bypass it, pretty much would hurt more than help.

Could impact on the viability of things like wine/proton for Mac and Linux users while maybe being able to impact cheaters which isn’t a guarantee to do so, if the player simply use virtualization technniques or simply mac address masking.

The downside would be greater than any actual benefit. Folks who would cheat would still try to cheat. Although the idea of creating a pool of cheaters playing by themselves could be interesting experiment, like some games already did.

proceeds to list none :+1:

I don’t mind the smurfing, but hardware ban’s won’t work. HWIDs are relatively easy to change all the way to swapping hardware it is an intrusive futile exercise.

High elo south america lobbies are infested with smurfs, most top500 duos boost high-masters accounts to GM1 (either boosting for money or account selling i guess) and wrecks 90% of lobbies on their way up, I typically afk point/car/robot when on their team or get base camped when against. If ur lucky enough two oposing smurf duos will face and the game will be balanced (that until they decide to wait for each others’ queue before finding a stompable game)

sounds fun huh

Smurfing is so lame, especially in OW2 the game is pretty quick to put you in the proper rank quickly. Spending your time throwing games is cringe.

I just imagine some Hanzo missing every shot on purpose

Game is free now… Great huh?!

Free passage for cheaters smurfs and all the other bad…

Account banned?! Make a new one… ez peazy

It sucks!

Found the guy that’s blaming his losses on smurfs.

Sometimes wins. Sometimes losses. But I mean ya? It’s almost like there’s a player in the lobby who discernibly plays at a level above the lobby.

You really didn’t think that comment through champ.

If you think you’re facing or playing with smurfs consistently and aren’t at least mid Diamond, you’re simply incorrect.

The anti smurf system in this game is ridiculously aggressive. It’s not hard to place far above your peak. Actual new players in high ranked lobbies that got boosted by the system are more common than smurfs in trash lobbies.

Blaming your losses on smurfs is the reason you’re not climbing. Own your mistakes and don’t make them again. Stop blaming other people and the game.

EDIT: You don’t even play comp. Why are you lying?

I dont know if there are a lot of smurfs or the matchmaker is just bad. All I know is that I get games regularly where my entire team or then entire enemy team can’t do anything to win a fight apart from an ult dump. Its pretty miserable.

So, we have the two camps, those who think smurfs are a problem, and those who think they dont, all represented here. At the end of the day, blizzard isnt going to do anything about it, so we just have to deal with it. If you are a Diamond or higher player, congratulations, youve made it and now you can go seal clubbing in bronze, if you are in bronze…sorry, sucks to be you, you just have to suck it up and take it.

That’s pretty much what it boils down to. No sense in even contemplating it. Hell, its not even like blizzard has acknowledged it as being a problem…they are pretty much silent on the issue…that should tell you something…

so, if you’re not good enough to be a smurf, then you are just bad enough to be fodder for them.

It’s part of the reason I pretty much dont play comp any more. Im not good enough to get out of bronze, so, there’s literally no point in playing comp, unless you have the potential to reach platinum, with an upward trajectory towards diamond.

thats just conformism, not something helpful for the devs who are actually looking for ways to improve their game despite some bad business decisions in the past

im gm1/top500 and smurfs ruin my games too

a balanced lobby could be
GM1 GM1
GM4 GM4
GM4 x GM4
GM4 GM4
GM4 GM4

but two GM1 players smurfing would possibly create a game like

GM1 GM1
GM4 GM4
GM4 x GM4
GM4 GM1
GM4 GM1

which will obviously be an unenjoyable stomp

My my. You’re pretty good at putting words in peoples mouth and attacking strawmen you’ve built

Now how do you detect smurfing?

What about the situation where in OW2 due to a bug I was placed in bronze 5 and had to climb back to plat?

I was a higher rank player in low rank lobby? How would the system know if I was a actuall smurf or just in a low rank trying to get out?
