I am a support player and I have played the role since a couple months after OW1 was released. I am frustrated when the game has yet to implement skill based ranks because it is extremely difficult to get to a proper rank as support when your teammates consistently suck. If you are good at dps, you can carry; good at tank, carry; good at support? Screw off. I am quite literally thinking about abandoning the game because I get at least 10k heals per game if not more, while my tank and dps players always get massively diffed by the other team (I am hard stuck silver/gold rn). If skill based ranks existed, it would allow fewer people to get âcarriedâ by teammates and friends and give them an actually accurate rank AND allow support players to get to higher ranks without needing pro dps and tank players on their team. Maybe this is a matchmaking issue too, but this issue should ALSO get solved with this. Blizzard, please.
Also please read the replies. So many repeated comments
Matchmaking is already working like that; itâs MMR based, which sort of means skill based.
You couldnât honestly think they would match people based on stats, because that â that would be absolutely terrible and such experience would fail day 1.
If you are a good Support, you can definetely carry or help others carry you, so to speak. Though performance is important, what you and many others in your situation need to understand is that key plays are more important than having 10 million damage, heals or kills. By key plays â plays that will have greater impact than just mindlessly farming damage or heals; maybe you decide to off-angle as Zenyatta in an unortodox spot and you draw the necessary attention for your team to do something, or you keep being super annoying/aggro as Lucio and thus creating space.
I think a month and half ago or something, I was in this GM game and our Genji* was underperforming badly(even he admitted). It was really, really bad. But at the end, our Ana nano him and he actually popped off in âOvertimeâ and won the game for us. Itâs just an example. Stop flaming your teammates and focus on yourself. If your DPS arenât doing enough damage, then step up and pick Baptiste, Ana, Zenyatta and be agressive.
If you are good at dps, you can carry; good at tank, carry; good at support? Screw off.
Supports can carry just like any other role, unless youâre playing Mercy or something. Even then, you will eventually climb to GM if youâre skilled enough. It just takes a lot longer.
because I get at least 10k heals per game
Doesnât matter, healing doesnât win games, they only make them longer. Who and when you heal are far more important than quantity of healing. 1,000 heals into a tank is probably worth less than 50 healing on a dps at a critical moment.
You should be focused on doing damage, surviving and landing utility. Healing is only useful for prevent teammates from dying.
I am hard stuck silver/gold rn
Have you ever considered that youâre actually a silver/gold skilled player?
A lot of people tell me this, however this is no solution. If I donât heal as much as I do (I also have a lot of âKey Playsâ as you call them) then my entire team dies and itâs useless. Just today actually, I played moira I had 37 kills 10k damage and 10k heals. Even when I get massive kills, I still canât carry. Itâs genuinely not a me issue.
Hence I said, âsort ofâ. MMR is sort of, skill. There are many factors why you may find a player underperforming, even in high elo. When you have one of those off-days, imagine what others may be saying about you. Yet you believe you are in the rank right(I assume)and you shouldnât be judge based off one game.
The thing about this is that it is simply impossible to carry as a healer when your teammates (no matter how good the heals are) lack the skill to get kills in order to actually win the game.
I feel like youâre caricaturing a situation, but if that actually really happened, then Iâm sorry; you might have just found a troll or thrower. Or someone maybe a bit tipsy heh.
This might be twisting your words a bit, but this is the entire issue. If they are trolling, they will never get to high ranks, and if you are under the influence, same goes.
Healing isnt how you carry games as support. If all you can focus on is how big your healing stat is you will always be stuck. Support has good tools to make getting kills significantly easier, either through raw damage or utility such as discord and anti, look to take advantage of those.
Iâm sorry to inform you youâre right where you belong.
Since OW2 was released, I went from bronze 5 to plat 5 on support. Donât focus on your teammate, try to always take the right decisions, and know when you made a mistake, so you can avoid doing that mistake again, donât ever give up and youâll climb.
These stats are not always the things shown outright, but this is something I do a lot as well. I am an all around great support. I get heals kills and actually support the others, they just canât reciprocate.
My height last season was plat 1 on support. But everytime you get a thrower or someone not meant for your gameâs rank level, you get kicked down. This is why skill-based rank is so important.
Without any info on the length of your game, it means nothing.
Its quite easy to reach 1K per min with Moira and it wouldnât make you a good Moira anyway.
The stats arenât representative, especially for supports as Zen canât heal as much as Moira ; Mercy canât do damage as much as Zen⌠Its impossible to set up a ranking system only on stats.
You heal âa lotâ but your team lacks of DPS, riiight. The question you need to ask yourself is : âwhat can I do to help my team to win ?â
Maybe support the right (or best) mate ?
Maybe be more aggressive ?
But I do know that feeling. As a support main myself, I usually end up with the best K/D/A of the whole game and still loses.
Its just that its sometimes very hard to guess whatâs the best decision in a match. And the gamedesign doesnât help to figure it out.
But explain me, why could I carry myself to GM1 on main and GM5 and GM4 on other accounts as a solo queue Support, but you canât? Iâm honestly very sorry for coming out as arrogant! I am respectfully asking you to come up with an awnser for this question.
