Should your opinion be weighted based on your rank?

In all honestly, when I see the same ppl complain about the same lame stuff all the time - then check their rank… it invalidates a lot of what is said.

Idk how ppl have the audacity to be so opinionated on certain game mechanics when they haven’t yet figured out how to play the game correctly. lol

I get second-hand embarrassment sometimes.

No. The logic of the argument should be weighed on its own merits first. This is why I don’t just trust high ranking players’ opinions off the bat either.

No, but there is a little catch IMO. While rank does put some weight on the person’s opinion and point of view (which can be viewed as experience), it does not immediately qualify or disqualify one’s opinion on the matter.

But there are things that are only a problem to people of a certain rank, so we need to see it case by case, and not generalise something as :“bronze/silver opinion”.

To me it can make sense why a certain person would complain about a certain hero based on rank or their main.

But also it could be a valid opinion and experience of that player too. It just puts things into perspective. Plus that hero could also be a massive threat at that rank and that could warrant changes for said hero.

What to do when you have the right answer but the wrong skillset?

Everyone knows Widow is da wei, she is the best carry hero and the absolute overlord of OW. But how many actually could play her and carry games? Everyone knows there is a Pharmercy on the field. But how many could coordinate Zen’s discord with hitscans to take them down? Everyone knows you should sleep or solo grav a Genji with nano blade, but how many could actually do it?

For me?
I am gonna trust someone who is at a higher ranking than someone at a lower rank.

Now you can argue that GM and Low rank are two different things, but a GM calling for Widow nerfs is much more credible than a Low Rank calling for Widow nerfs because most of the time I guaranteed that the low rank players just go afk and got sniped.

Is it really necessary to share your opinions with such patronising spite?

To answer your question, though…No. Anyone can know enough about Overwatch to have a credible opinion on it, even if they lack their own mechanical skill. What you’ve said is the equivalent of people who believe that someone is only allowed to comment on X hero if they main said hero…And I think we can all agree that those people are wrong.

Contrary to popular belief, Overwatch is not rocket science…

Above average you mean.

So what you’re saying is that my opinion on supports should be weighed more than yours? Okay fine.

Brig deserves to be the best support in the game and Ana should be deleted. You can’t argue with me cause I’m higher SR in this role.

Then you come out and say “Oh this is my alt account, I’m actually top 500 so you’re wrong.”

Dammit… my argument doesn’t work against that.

Well a plat is deciding who lives and who dies so RESPECT THE PLAT.

Instead, you have a single hitscan on your team and the tanks are yelling at you that you can’t get a kill in a 2v1 scenario. Like for real? How’s the tank battle going? You literally outnumber them 2 to 1 and you’re not making any headway?

I think there is a lot of value in people’s opinions. Like for example when Mercy was a flat rate of 50 hps even in Valk, it was bad and underpowered. Just because say a gold Mercy main points that out doesn’t mean her points are invalid. If a silver player though claim Bastion is OP, that can be related to the rank and not understanding how to take down Bastion since his stats show he isn’t even remotely good. This isn’t to say their opinion isn’t valid though, I think it’s still important to be able to discuss something. In that situation, explaining how to deal with Bastion with tips and tricks is better than just being like “lol stupid silver player.”

I love it when I’m a hitscan and I’m trying to get Pharmercy, and nobody else is helping me. Like I’m supposed to just magically kill them all by myself immediately and then they don’t even switch to try to help. smh. I’d never complain that a single hitscan isn’t 1v2ing consistently.

Ya Jeff is a plat boi but he also has a team of staff that he communicates with in order to gain perspective. What you’re insinuating is a false equivalency.

That staff is likely not GM either.

I say no, your rank doesn’t always mean you are that good. I have been in games with some rather bad players who were a higher rank, just as I have been in games with good players who were nothing more than bronze.

So based on my own experience of what I have actually seen, I don’t think rank should matter with opinion. Not to mention were that how it actually was, you would see a lot of bias and abusing rank to just get characters nerfed or buffed, based on the individual’s opinions of said characters.

Do you all play pro baseball or pro soccer to comment on international league players.

I think a few of them are isnt geoff GM ?

I think your opinions should be heard more if you had game design experience.

Because time and time again the devs listened to top 500/Gm streamers with their little parrots and sock puppets, and made the game worse and worse.

Then those same tools come weeks later, after most of the game base suffers from the aftermath of a bad rework/trashing of a character or system and say “Oopsies, I should not have suggested reworking/trashing [insert a character here]. My bad. Anyways #delete[insert another character here]! They are too op.”.
