The ammount of misplaced people who aren’t playing their main role is so ridiculous. It’s either a GM in DIamond who hard carries with his game knowledge or a Plat who got overrated into Diamond or people who are Diamond on their main role and got placed there on every other role even tho they don’t know anything about them.
3 years. It took Blizz to realize they need to fix matchmaking and forced 222 onto the game after a lot of community crying. Ironic that now the matchmaking is worse than ever.
EDIT: On my main I now climbed to Masters with DPS where I clearly don’t belong even tho I’m a DPS Main while my Healer SR (90% playing Ana and I’m pretty good at her) dropped to Mid Plat. It seems like theres a Dragging effect in Plat where you have to play out of your mind to carry the other players while somewhere in Diamond the opposite occurs. You have to be really bad or throwing to downcarry the other good players. Now in 1 Role I’m ranked way too high while in the two other roles I’m ranked way too low. I basically got boosted and forced to lose at the same time in different roles.
I’d overall rank myself a Diamond DPS, Diamond Healer and a High Plat Tank.
EDIT 2: After several days of playing on the one account I’m still Masters I win, I lose, I carry, I’m bad and so on. On the second account I’m Plat and it’s the same. I can tell you there’s worlds between Masters and Plat but I maintain my rank on both accounts. Please tell me there’s a logical answer to this like my left brain is Masters and my right brain is Plat…
and again it will be in season 18 for along time. it would be best with hard reset from season 18 with all the chaos that comes with it in the start and it will settle faster in the long run then they way the do it now.
I agree, it is a total mess at the moment. Rein and mercy mains who never play DPS, who were 2900 and they are in my games as a 2900 DPS. Obviously they are totally worthless at this and we lose.
You realize that is the point of the Beta right? So that Blizzard has a wider pool of data to work with to tweak the system and place each person better in the future. That is why 1 it doesn’t count, 2 Sigma is currently in comp and 3 the SR loss and gains are not how they would normally be.
Let me offer you a little bit of insight, I work as a game tester on a different game and usually when you test things you do things like this:
Internal testing - The dev who worked on the feature tests it for functionality
QA Testing - QA takes a look and executes test cases in order to find bugs
Internal Playtesting - The feature is nearly complete and can now handle a bigger set of eyes on it
PTR - A small sample size of your community (Ours is called Retail Bypass)
Beta - An even wider pool of people for the devs to gauge whether or not the trends from the previous sample sizes hold up and preparation for live servers
Live Servers - When a feature is good enough to launch and get the biggest amount of eyes on it
I hope this helped you understand a little bit of how a Beta works and what it is for.
Thanks for the insight really apprecciate it. I just assumed that because on PTR you would get Instaqueues all the time opposed to waiting 6-7 minutes on live. I just concluded that most people played PTR then so they tested it there.
No problem, before I got into the industry I didn’t know a lot of this stuff either, and most players don’t really care to learn what goes on in the backend, trust me they are allocating tons of data from this Beta especially since it seems unranked players are trying for the first time too so they have a lot of variables to work with.
I understand this can be frustrating but it takes time to get these things in working order.
The PTR was for detection of serious critical flaws in the system. The population of PTR and MMR data present on PTR was completely insufficient for testing the placements calculations and other things that are being tested in the Beta Season.
Jeff cautions people against judging role queue on the PTR based on matchmaking because of these reasons in this video:
That would be an internal test, in interviews Jeff has talked about a “Blizzard Playtest” where they will take features to Blizzard as a whole and test them there. Other cut features tested this way include:
Hero Customization - Unlocking and changing hero abilities
Hero Levels - Heroes would have 20 levels and you would get cosmetics and items based on your level
There are probably many other features we don’t know about.
