Throwing this up in response to the MULTIPLE threads on the bug report forum such as Wrong Rank Reward (250+ replies) and False Season End Rank
The response from the Twitter is absolutely terrible and shows no commitment in attempting to make this right from here
“We understand that we need to do a better job making these systems more understandable and will be addressing these issues and other part of the system in the future”.
That’s a total non-commitment to righting players who had a very reasonable expectation of having their rank be what was displayed on their UI at the end of the season. It makes no sense to me why players aren’t rewarded based on their season peak or what’s displayed in the UI.
This issue is a problem both looking back AND looking forward.
Looking back: in my situation. I placed both Masters 5 and Tank and Support. Based on all the UI and notes, I had a very reasonable explanation to be rewarded for being Masters 5. I even deliberately stopped myself from re-ranking after a few games on each in an effort to ensure I got the Masters rewards. And yet, after two months of grinding, I’m cheated out of nearly 500 competitive points + Masters Title and other rewards off a poorly explained and unintuitive semantic.
Looking forward: If you couple this with the drastic deranking (I went from Diamond 1 to Plat 4), I now will have to climb back up to Masters, this time not with my MMR being at level of my rank – but having to push myself at Masters from every game from Plat 4 to Masters.
Here’s the bigger issue looking forward, though. If the system is going to end season rank you based on what your current score is, taking in account games you, the player, cannot see reflected on your rank – you, as a player, now are incentivized to literally STOP touching an entire role THE game you re-rank into a new division. Since you can’t know anything about whether your rank is actually still in that division, you effectively cannot play a single game beyond, because if you lose even a single game, you can no longer know, regardless of your displayed Master 5, whether you were actually 3500 and the next game just put you at 3480.
The start of season 2 has drastically discouraged my incentive to play at all when both looking back and looking forward with how this has all played out. I seriously hope Blizzard reconsiders how this is calculated and does a retroactive grant to players in the previous season.
