I’m surprised there wasn’t a Kiriko skin TBH. Grateful, but surprised.
Also I grew up watching Transformers Prime, Arcee doesn’t look anything like the Illari skin. Why’d they change her design so much in Prime?
But also, I wish they’d make more than 4 skin collabs. They just do 4-5 skins, with one being exceptionally mid, but that leaves out so many good options.
Also they should’ve done a Roadhog / Wrecking Ball Bulkhead. Roadhead or Wrecking Bulk?
The main reason was at the time they believed that guys wouldn’t want to buy action figures of a pink robot. The same logic also kinda applied to the recent movie where she’s red and white instead of pink and white.
Transformers prime is also a drastically new take on the characters so a lot of them don’t look remotely similar to the OGs.
Compare Prime Breakdown to Original Breakdown.
Every era of transformers was drastically different until around 2017 where they decided to unify the brand and picked the original cartoon and ongoing comics as the basis of the franchise going forward.
The classic designs were more memorable and the ongoing comics had better lore + updated classic designs to take inspiration from.
Ok hearing we nearly got close to that stings a lot. Ball has got nothing but mid tier at best skins in all of Overwatch 2. This could’ve broke the trend.
Or Animated Blitzwing to G1/Bumblebee movie.
Megatron goes through changes of reds, green, purple and what not all the time but usually settle on grey being his more primary colour.
They do now especially after unifying the franchise and less social stigmas. (although they got a LOT of push back for that Arcee figure)
When you create drastically different versions of the same character every few years it’s hard to sell toys to collectors and kids. Especially when the classic designs are their biggest money makers.
I had a look at Breakdown, and I just started laughing at that goofy white rectangle on stilts.
I think Prime had some of the best designs though, probably because I’m biased, but also because Optimus and Megatron just looked so good. Megatron either looks like a box, or an over designed CGI mess like in this live action films.
Truth be told (and I’m not saying I don’t enjoy that incarnation) I only know about that one because of the kerfuffle it inspired. However it’s now reselling for like… twice it’s sale price so… it was just the typical virtue signaling over nothing. People still wanted it.
They prime designs were VERY good and the show itself was spectacular. Nowadays hasbro barely acknowledges it’s existence.
Hasbro wanted Transformers Prime to be the beginning of an MCU like style shared universe of shows, books, movies, and games.
It failed.
They kinda treat that era like their unwanted step child now.
They released new transformers prime figures a couple years ago aimed at collectors but they redesigned the characters to look as if they were from the 80s cartoon. (Thier baby and main money maker.)
This was the first time that acknowledged it in many years and they did… that
I may just be uninformed as someone who knows nearly nothing about transformers, but this doesnt feel true, I know Megatron, Bumblebee, and Prime obviously, but besides only knowing Starscreams name i havent heard of the other two at all
That’s why! His incompetence and traitorous personality is why he’s beloved.
When you dive deeper into the lore like the old IDW comics it goes deeper into his mental state, PTSD, and why he’s the way he is.
At one point he becomes the president of Cybertron after the war ends and Cybertron is restored. He’s genuinely a good guy underneath all his foolishness.
The whole thing about the decepticons is that they were oppressed people in their society which determined their class and social status based off what they could turn into.
Megatron was a slave and created the Decepticons to rise against the oppression. So at one point all of them were genuinely good people before going a bit extremist.
That’s why Ram got the Megatron skin. They’re basically the same character.
(This isn’t the only origin for them but it’s the main one Hasbro takes most of their inspiration from these days)
Yep! Kiss players. Don’t look it up, most people pretend like it never happened.
I really still don’t get it. I hate people like that.
The rest of it is basically retcon though. All I remember from when it came out and was a glorified toy commercial… was he was one of the only reasons plans kept failing and just like so many other cartoons with “bad guys” the main guy was actually smart and powerful, but his toadies constantly did selfish , dumb things that messed them up. Which was supposed to teach us we didn’t want to be like them…
It’s just confusing remembering that… and then seeing so many people clamoring for a skin of him.
I guess once we decided we wanted deeper stories for villains other than “they are evil” we had to make motivations and such that made sense.
The starscream I remember though was willing to sacrifice any of the other decepticons in a second if it benefited him in ANY way, however minor. So this “but really he was a good guy” thing cannot fly. He set his still living leader out to die in space while laughing. … yeah… no.
