Because it’s either unintentional or intentional.

The only reason why something like GOATs is relevant is because role q isn’t fixed, it’s optional. So even if you choose to play in 2-2-2 you can be forced not to because each team doesn’t play by the same rules which by itself breaks the competitive integrity. Things should be as standardized as possible.
Role Q has to be enforced not optional, because if it is optional, then it wont change anything. That’s what we have now.

No, I’m against the concept that it’s not enforced on both teams which eventually leads to people having to opt out of it.

How can it be unintentional, you can very easily see what the rest of the team is picking, it’s a choice.

I actually agree with this, I just figured it was too far and you’d get a bunch of people up in arms about how this kills creativity etc etc.

Forcing teams into 2-2-2 would fix a lot of problems, the only ones it causes is no more GOATS or other non standard comps (which I expect to upset a lot of folks)

That is exactly what the people who are against it will say. But it’s up to the DEVs to make the hard choice like they did back when they added hero limits.

Because if an uncoordinated team happens to pull off QuadDPS, they were either lucky by circumstance in the match, or a matchmaker that gave them a weaker enemy team.

Well, considering over 60% of the playerbase in Comp is Gold or Below.

And the population in quickplay is bigger than the entire population in Comp.

I think structured team comps like 2Flex-2Heal-2Tank would have a pretty profound effect, for a massive amount of players.

I cannot remember the last time I lost a match because the other team had 4DPS. This is pretty much an easy win most of the time.

They’re not going to coordinate their push and come in on one target, that DPS is going to be spread around (and shot into barriers; probably mostly directed at tanks) they get picked apart and then trickle for the remainder of the match while you wonder why if the enemy team is infact throwing.

If people chose to use it, LFG would do the exact same thing for that same amount of players. And that’s the point, it’s a choice to use it, same as yours.
Not to mention that a fully enforced role Q would affect 100% of the playerbase.

This is one of the reasons I’ve been saying you may need to apply a different solution to lower ranks where there’s a serious lack of game understanding.

To be clear I like your idea, I just like a forced 2-2-2 even more.

Anything that makes it so I don’t need to listen to children holler at eachother over who’s going to play what role would be a welcome improvement.

Yeah, but for Masters/GM players, they sometimes try to mimic StormQuake’s QuadDPS comp, as an anti-GOATs strategy.

That’s fine, Masters/Gm probably don’t need assistance with role queue or explanations of what the point of each role is…etc.

Eh, devs could have fixed GOATs 2 months ago by restricting healers to 2. But they went with balance changes instead.

So I think it’s extremely unlikely the devs are going to go for 2-2-2.

I would simplify the main menu to “Standard”, “Rôle” and “Custom”.
“Standard” would automatically join any game (so fill if there’s a leaver on any mode, or being add to a no-role, role or custom comp). Shorter queue time but less chance to pick its main (ideal for flex players/non OTP)
“Role” would be 2-2flex-2 as you said, you always class the 3 roles, maybe have a function to save it and modify it when you want. So, a “main DPS” would not be stuck for too long in the queue time.
Like imagine, tag as 1- Flex, 2- Heal, 3- Tank : 1st minute looking for role n°1, 2nd minute looking for else n°1 or n°2, 3rd minute looking for any role. With it, a main DPS would not wait for X hours.
Also, it would be great to be add in the voicechat by default.

For the LFG, the matchmaker needs to be modify to force pre made to play together/against each other

I really like the Role queue.
To be honest, I would prefer a role queue for everything (QP, comp and some arcade mods like CTF), I don’t see the point of standard queue

Also, they need to add more penalty to leavers in QP / Arcade, with the decrease of players, it happened to me to playing a Mystery heroes as a 5v6 because of a leaver and have no replacement for 6 minutes.
Like -75% XP after 3 leaves in 10 games and then temporary ban of Comp and QP

Because not everybody would like RoleQ, and change often scares people.

True, but enforce roles would be more healthy to the game:

  • Less OTPs
  • Smurfs not able to play their beloved roles
  • No more 5 DPS 1 heal

I guess, Standard queue is good for QP, but if we want a healthy Ranked, we need enforce roles for Comp.
So else:

  • SoloQ, choose your fav roles (1, 2, 3) and then jump into it with 5 unknown people. Each player has a role define on the selection screen 2-2Flex-2 and you automatically join voicechat
  • TeamQ (LFG and friends), longer to find your game but able to talk/train before jumping into ranked

I figure forcing people to cooperate, who don’t want to cooperate, would be counterproductive.

They’d just pick a Role like Tank/Healer and be bad at Tanking/Healing.

So their SR will drop except if they practice.
I’ve seen it many times but to be good to the game you need to know how to flex (so, at least know 1 main tank, 1 off tank, 2 DPS, 1 healer, 1 off heal)

The issue isn’t that they don’t know how to implement this, they said they already have a role queue finished and could add it whenever they wanted. They already have a role queue design. The problem is they want people to be “free to choose” bla bla bla and we’re now waiting for them to realise it’s not working.

Maybe they do, maybe they don’t.

But if they didn’t, and it’s plainly obvious to me, I’d feel it would be wrong to just let the concept go unsaid, if I had the power to make a change.
