Which mode is your preference? Personally I never play role queue and if that was the only game mode to choose from I simply wouldn’t play. Just trying to figure out where the community stands between the 2 game modes.
Edit: I’m talking about competitive role queue vs competitive open queue. Not quickplay.

Dont… it always ends with “We should remove role queue because freedom!” by the vocal “no role queue” crowd…

The reason I made this thread is because I posted in another guys thread about him crying about support queue times because support sucks, and I asked him if this entire argument hinges on the fact that they wont add open queue, and he said I’m part of a very small minority that likes open queue, and I just simply don’t believe that.
Open queue is a balancing nightmare in OW1 and will be a complete joke in OW2 because the maps are designt for 5v5 and that only 1 tank is in every team.
The reality before 222 was introduced was that you had 6 random people. Most of the player mained DPS so you mostly had about 4 DPS mains in your team. Or even 5. Some of them tried to play a tank (and where not good) or just played 5 DPS while you where flexing and trying to solo heal or tank.
It was a nightmare and the game was a dice roll what kind of mains you had on your team and what the enemies had (still 222 mains where for 90% the winners over 5 DPS).
This resulted in a horrible game quality and horrible balance. They induced role queue to make balance easier and to have a higher game quality.
Thats the story.

All I play on OW1 is open queue and we almost never have pure DPS comps, there is always tank and healer swaps throughout the match if we’re lacking… and even if you do have certain issues you can always swap yourself… and the enemy team has the same option.

Because current open queue is not like it was for EVERYONE back then. Most open queue players are now not DPS mains. They are flex players that can play a lot of roles. So its totally different now than it was back then when it was the norm.
But like I explained: for OW1 open queue makes sense. For OW2 not anymore because of fundamental changes .
Open q all the way it’s much better
Role queue is a failed experiment as we’ve seen with the ridiculous queue times in both 222 and 122
It does not work
It
does
Not
work
It’s time to stop devoting development resources to this experiment (sunken cost fallacy)

Let’s go back to the days of open que where 4 or 5 and even 6 selfish people will insta lock dps!
May be you get lucky and get 1 tank and 1 healer.
Then spam I need healing to the Zen player because reasons.
Sounds like fun let’s do that again!

That is also my experience from back then. I am one of those flex players that had to do 2 jobs at the same time and tried to have a normal match
And there you have the first specimen that has no idea why role queue was a big save for OW and why open queue failed and just works well now because of the reasons I stated earlier

I was one of the idiots that would pick Ana and try to heal everyone.

My respect to you… I was the mercy that tried to heal everyone and counter out the mistakes they made…

I agree role queue is silly.

In that case, DEFINITELY comp rq. In terms of quickplay, I’m good with either.
In the terms of beta the rq is a safer bet to start with.
I get that it pisses off people who have played years and years when someone takes away your freedom to choose, but in a beta, advertised heavily on twitch where your goal is to bring new players to try the game out rq gives them a change to see the whole roster.
Yes. It does maker waiting time longer, but that can be easily be explained by it been a closed beta and having fewer players, something that probably will fix itself when the game is released.
but having game after game with nothing but dps and maybe an occasional tank how would you convince the new players that ow is more than just dps game when thats all they see in game?
More like we start with 2/2/2 and then one of the tanks and one of the supports switch to dps cause “You guys suck, clearly I have to do everything”. And now you have a solo Hog and Zen as your tank/support. And now you lose cause it turns out two more dps who can’t get kills are even more useless.

Role Q made Open Q way worse than before
Role Q also force me to wait probably longer than the actual playtime except playing MY most hated role (tank) first
Role Q was the worst decision they have ever made, nothing comes close

Personally I prefer role queue. Even if there are maps I wish I was on another role I play because the map favors a character I like, the experience for me, as a mostly tank and support player is just better. Seriously, most of the people who want open queue are DPS players who won’t play anything else and made role queue necessary in the first place.
I think open queue has gotten better but I still run into a lot of matches when I jump into it for the arcade boxes that make me sick of it and reminds me how good role queue is regularly. Last time I played I had four 4-dps games in a row and two of those were 5 until the first point was lost or a team wipe happened. The only reason we had a tank most times was because I was doing it under protest. I hate solo tanking. I mostly prefer to play off tank and peel for the supports/ help the main tank.
Not my normal case, probably occupy ~5% of my ranked games (NG was garbage tho)
In open queue 1 out of 10 games was playable in the right way. In the other 9 cases it was a clown match that resulted in getting spawn campt or spawn camping. I dont know who these people are that want “open queue to be great again” but they have surely never played the game at the time when this was the case… it made me quit. I just came back because of 222.
And why do people cry about it? I mean you haven open queue for all those people that enjoy it! Enjoy it!
