Lmao the Q times are not cuz of Role Q dude. Its you Dps players that are at fault
I’m a tank player actually
I had one game I have discussed here several times. 5 dps who would not switch. I tried to heal them at first, we weren’t getting anywhere, I switched to Rein and put up a barrier that let us push the cart on Gibraltar to B. Enemy team dumped all their ults into us, cohesion never happened again despite my attempts to get them to group up and my team got very toxic. I asked somebody to go heals and got ****-talked and told that if I wanted it I could do it. Eventually I tried healing again but now we had no tank, nobody would switch to that. Then when the game ended everyone dog-piled me for not being their personal tank as they avoided using my barrier and went 3 different ways to chase personal duels or said we would have won if I went heals sooner and pocketed THEM. One person even told me I should have saved him from a junk tire that killed us both. I was on Reinhardt and he was McCree. Never did any of them ever consider switching. I was so fed up with this game’s community I quit the game for two months after that. I wish anybody who advocates for open queue could live through that game from my experience. All of those guys probably hated the arrival of role queue and good. Seriously.
This right here. This happend so often hat started to leave chat and voice and always played the 6th DPS. Like I said its like having 2 jobs. Most of the time you prayed to the RNG gods that you got a tank or support main in your team so that you had at least a chance of winning.
Idk this is just a viewpoint I don’t understand. I lose games all the time and I never blame it on the hero choices or role choices… I just think about what I could have done better in my play and move on. I don’t worry about trying to control other people or the things they want to do/their performance. If I was uber focused on winning and wanted to play with a tank and healer every match I would simply find like minded people and form groups. I don’t need role queue to facilitate that for me, and I don’t need role queue to divide the player base into different match types. I also don’t need role queue to force people into playing things they might not want to play to avoid “long queue times”. Just my opinion though, I know a lot of people don’t see eye to eye on this topic, which is why I wanted to see where most people stood.
I prefer roleQ personally. But I am glad both queues exist.
Admirable but many people see their fun in winning the games. You are a rare exception. I for one wanted to leave the game when I saw the Shimadas, Widow + another DPS on my team. There is no “what could I have done better”. I see it in the start screen that we will lose if the enemy is not as stupid as my team is! You go out with the knowledge “you will lose”. That is not only demotivating but also frustrating. Back then we could look at the profiles at will and like I said: the outcome was obvious from the start.
it had something to do with “Match Maker Luck” and not with “who had the better players”. That was the main point why 222 had to be forced.
One of my worst game where with FOUR mercy ONE TRICKS… you can see where this was going…
Well if the idea is that you have to win to have fun playing this game then I think 50% of the people playing at all times are going to be not having fun. Someone has to lose. I’d also like to note that I generally see the same 50/50 win rate in both open queue and role queue. In my experience I have found that people in role queue complain just as much about the comp… but instead of “We need a tank” it’s “We need THIS tank”. Being a Sombra main I get told to switch to a different DPS nonstop (in ow1) even if my performance is on par. It’s the same toxic mentality that blames the composition for the loss. I personally find the enjoyment in seeing how well I can play or even try to carry even if our composition is absolutely terrible. If the combat is fun the game can be fun, win or lose.
That’s the thing you don’t understand. Nobody has to play anything they don’t want to ever again with role queue. If you want to play DPS, role queue lets you play dps without there being some pissing contest over who has to switch. And conversely you’ll never wind up in another game with 3 mercy mains. If you don’t want to play anything else, then don’t.
I’m always going to try to win every match that I’m in but I’m not committed enough to find a regular group. A lot of people don’t have time for that sort of thing and just want to hop on and play a game or two whenever. I think a lot of people fall into that camp which is why role queue came about.
Conversely though, in not caring if you won or not, you were forcing people who did want to win with having to do that in spite of you. In not caring if your team composition was viable, you were forcing other people to make it viable for you. Before role queue people who didn’t want to play the way that you wanted to play were stuck playing the way you wanted to play because you weren’t going to let them do otherwise. You were still forcing things you wanted on other people. But because it was what you wanted you couldn’t see it that way. They could leave, of course, at a penalty. You essentially had them hostage. You try to paint yourself as magnanimous but you were anything but.
I think you can tell where I stand on it pretty clearly now, lol. I think at the end of the day most people will just default to wanting what was best for them personally and I can understand that.
I must say though if this is where your enjoyment lies why not simply play QPC in the arcade?
Win is not everything. The main part here is that the game was won or lost in the start screen for 90% of the games because they had a good comp and we did just get a bunch of DPS mains. It was absolute trash to play. The only ones that enjoyed this clown show where the DPS mains and they are mostly with a few flex mains the ones that want the old system back… what never will happen because of reasons I also stated earlier.
It does sound like fun… It sounds like randomness…
I’m a die hard mercy main.
I do not care.
I heal, I damage boost, I die in hilarious ways to damage that wasn’t even meant for me.
Your ridiculous roles are simply beneath me.
XD
All very interesting takes on this topic GengisJohn,
A lot of which I agree with. I’d like to mention that just because I didn’t hyper fixate on winning does not mean I was not trying to win… rather just that my enjoyment of the game was not dependent on winning. I’m not sure what QPC is in the arcade, I only play competitive modes because I want a greater competition. My issue with role queue is that it has long queues times depending on your role, and it divides the players further into different game modes.
Hey that’s cool, just thanks for hearing me out and not being toxic even if we see things differently.
I like how you pointed out that people are going to typically want what is best for them, and I agree with that. I see how role queue can provide that, but my issue is that not everyone wants to fill those roles and that they make the game less accessible. Maybe the fact that the 3 roles exist in the first place is the real culprit, and the reason more traditional shooters are so much more popular than OW. That’s kind of my argument for why I like open queue… but I just think it isn’t possible to have the entire player base agree. Maybe a role-less system would work better, or maybe less emphasis on what a support or tank role should really be doing.
Edit: I believe people are going to put in as much as they can to win until the game becomes unfun for their personal experience. Once you have to do so many things to win (play a certain role, play a certain hero, play that hero a certain way) I think people don’t care if they win anymore if they aren’t having fun doing the things that are required to win consistently. At least that’s where I draw the line.
I primarily played Quickplay back then, 6 DPS is practically mythical. The problem is that unless you had a shield tank or a main healer, people somehow put it in their heads that it was a 6 DPS comp even when there’s actually a Roadhog, Zarya and Zen in the game.
I know this because i regularly recorded a lot of my games so i can review my gameplays and i can actually track how the team is actually performing, who’s switching into what, and check their player profiles.
The fact of the matter is, when there’s a Roadhog in the team, people somehow think “DPS”. In reality, the team is often 2-2-2 or 1-3-2, but if the team gets steamrolled, you can get 6 DPS in the last minute and somehow that’s what people remember even tho you had atleast one tank and two supports for 90% of it. An actual 6 DPS comp is practically mythical.
Myth you lost me their stop reading.
Some body link the throwerwatch videos pls.
That’s the reality. As i said, i record my games and play them back. Even when i think i had DPS games, when i review the games for the day, i’d find that the ones i thought had DPS comps were actually off tanks and off healers.
Role Queue.
I prefer role queue
Open queue is just 5 dps
