Lets take away more information from the player base so we can’t check the opposing teams profiles, and we can’t check any recent player profiles. Who asked for this?
Why was this even implemented? You have private profiles for a reason but no, now no one can check anyones profiles besides your team…
It’s just a change for people who have their profile set to private so you don’t waste your time checking when you can’t see anything anyways. It’s not a bad change imo
As said above, it just removes the button for people who are already private. It saves a click.
There is also a bug/intention that after you quit and re-open the game that the button is removed from everyone you previously played with, but before that, you can still see profiles.
I have mine on public but I would like an option so that only other players with public profiles can see it. (with some minimum time requirement like 48 hours on public so they can’t just check and put it back to private)
Why tho?
I’m on private. I shouldn’t have anything to hide, but I’ve been playing for a really long time, and I main Mercy, and people often suck about it. That doesn’t mean I can’t still benefit from reading other people’s profiles, if they choose to share. And I’m the last person on earth who’d be a jerk about it–my profile is private because I know all too well how exhausting and unproductive it can be when everyone feels the need to state their opinion and/or crack a joke about [insert stat here.]
I do wish Overwatch had better tools for curating your public profile so that players can decide what information is actually helpful, and present in a whatever way is easiest to understand. That can definitely include letting players have more choice over who sees what stats. If you don’t want to show me yours because I don’t want to show you mine… that’s your choice. Other folks, I suspect, want their public profiles to be truly public. Both should be options.
One, because it incentivizes public profiles and I like that
Two, because it makes sense for your standards to apply to yourself as well.
But I also agree on the part about deciding what to show. I usually only look at profiles to see their ranks, like I don't care about their playtime and I assume I'm far from alone there. But, afaik, most people who hide their profiles hide it because of their playtime stats. So something that only hides playtime would be nice, I guess.
What I don’t understand. You know the emblem below the character select. Why can’t we set our rank to be visible there. I thought that was what it would do, in comp. It’s just some empty thing.
Because apparently people’s feelings get hurt or something… idk. There’s a report option if people are being idiots when looking at profiles. We shouldn’t have private profiles to begin with. If Blizzard feels we need to hide profiles then they need to be removed all-together. If you don’t want people looking at your stats then play a single-player game. Nothing wrong with doing that either, but man it’s such an L take.
If you’re in comp you know their rank and what role they’re queuing for. That’s all you need to know. Seeing who they play most makes no difference because you aren’t picking their hero or playing for them.
In qp, this just flat out doesn’t matter in the slightest because it’s qp, and again, you can’t pick who someone else plays or how they play them
IMO default profiles should just show a player’s rank in each role, plus a player-selected list of which heroes they’re willing/able to play. 90% of the time, that’s what players want to know when they look at your profile, and most folks don’t mind sharing that info.
Then, if for whatever reason a player really wants everyone to see their detailed stats, let that be something they enable seperately.
This is such an L take. The issue isnt “feelings getting hurt” its people being toxic and using the career profile to attack and throw games, just being toxic because they are toxic people. Blame the community more than anything really. Because you can just mute people, then you dont need to hear or see what theyre saying, but the toxic person can still be toxic in game and throw because of whatever dumb information they get from a career profile.
I think I somewhat agree with private profiles. In comp, since we can now vote to ban people, you dont want the other team looking at your profiles to see who your main characters are, so they can ban those characters.
