Remember when you can earn 3 epic skins on events?

Ahh…those were the days.
I still love my stone Bap’s skin. One of the best epic skin in Overwatch.

Today’s events rewards are skins that you already own, weapon charms that nobody ever equipped and you can earn them by playing mode that nobody cares.

How far the have fallen.

I remember people complaining about having to win 9 games with in a week just to get said rewards. I wonder where those people are now

Busy grinding. They have about 5 months left until they can get a new legendary.

Remember when we had a 3 year content drought, because the monetization model for OW1 didn’t have any longevity beyond what they built before launch?

We’re like 3 months in and there’s already a quality game/content drought

And Overwatch was somehow still loved more than it is now? Crazy times. This is some monkey’s paw type of stuff going on.

Remember when people used to want actual new gameplay content

How so? We got a hero, map and new event mode this season. How could you possibly call this a content drought? Currently we’ve been getting content at a higher rate than before OW1’s content drought.

Everybody loves it when there’s a constant flow of high quality content for free.

But that’s not sustainable.

Well, I actually think people would tolerate OW1 with no more content than OW2 with bad content. People still play the likes of Black Ops 1 and 2, or other games that had a steady flow of content and then nothing after that.

Which obviously means the simple solution was to leave OW1 up and release a sequel like normal people do. For all this talk of “Yeah, but blizzard wanted to do this or that” or “Blizzard has to pay for OW’s servers!”, I really don’t think their ideas are working out so far.

Now, its been a few months and people aren’t getting sweeter on Overwatch. With the Owl news, I’d actually say public perception is getting worse. Perhaps a traditional sequel would have been better received even if I had to pay $60 for it again.

Well, either way, we’re on the path we’re on now, and we don’t have access to a time machine. Might as well make the most of it.

That said, I think they should have gone F2P in 2019.

Kinda like how TF2 went F2P after it blew through it’s initial launch stockpile of content.

You’re not wrong. But I think the game has big potential to come back when PVE launches.

So what they should be focusing on right now is fixing the groundwork so they don’t screw that up.

It worked with TF2, and could work with Overwatch. The difference is that TF2 went F2P with soul, and released great content for a long while. I remember downloading it on my Trash laptop and only being able to play as Medic and Engie because it lagged too much to aim well.

And you know what? I’ve spent a good amount of money on TF2 over the years. Buying keys and costumes and mann up tickets and such. I really think the only reason I won’t for OW is because it doesn’t seem worth it. The content we’re getting isn’t great, I only unlocked Ramattra two days ago, and it doesn’t seem like Blizzard is willing to balance the game in the way it needs to be.

Maybe they should just drop a free wave based Survival mode, and then sell tickets to an upgraded (and harder) version of the event that’d give you OW coins and special jewel guns on completion. That’d get attention.

Yea, I wouldn’t hold my breath over this. Learn the lesson my friend…learn the lesson.

There were so many other, better ways to make money than this. It’s a false binary to suggest that the two choices were lootboxes or what they’re doing now, and I don’t think their current plan is sustainable in the long term. Guess we’ll find out, though.

The release schedule is the same….the f2p/monetization thing has zero to do with the release schedule……though worth mentioning that they’ve removed just as many maps as they’ve added with this insanely idiotic map pool decision

But they’ve also trimmed the events themselves back to point where you struggle to even call them that…here are the old game modes (again)…here are some prior released skins…and here are a few new skins nobody has access to (ONE in this case)…I’m afraid to even think about archives is going to be

All this while promising More more more as they slowly let the game burn with poor decision after poor decision and in many cases - neglect

But it’s ok….pve is coming to save the day……eventually……for another asinine price prob…

For seasons after this one it will be the same as it was before OW1’s major content drought, yes (At least before they drop the new core game mode and PVE). For seasons 1 and 2 it has been a higher rate of content.

Last two seasons have had two new event modes. This is roughly the same schedule as OW1’s first year, way back before the content drought.

There are fewer skins available for free players, sure. But this is not a content drought.

Winter and lunar year were even lower effort than the last couple of years….which is remarkable…

I didn’t mind Olympus but it feels like something they just threw together to sell those skins (that should’ve been on the bp)

3 Epic Skins?
The loot boxes offered a lot and then there were the base loot boxes as well.

I agree. But also, if they were to have just gotten rid of those two events all together we’d still be at the same rate of content as we were before OW1’s content drought.

Six seasons a year. Six events per year back in OW1. So as long as they have 1 new event mode every season (Which they did this season), they’ll be keeping up with the content of OW1’s first year.

They’re referring to the challenge skins you could earn during events by playing games.
