With Reinhardt and to a lesser extend Brigitte heroes:
If you try to swing an attack after holding your shield, it takes an extra 1-1.5sec for the swing attack to happen.
The game is waiting for the shield retracing/releasing animation to finish entirely before the swings start their own animation, which is considerably longer compared to just swinging your hammer with no shield up.
Same happens with any other abilities and the shield.
