Random Sensitivity Drops (Input lag?)

Hey there.

This issue started fairly recently, and I have been playing the game for almost a year now. I noticed there would be a random extreme drop in sensitivity in game, to the point where it feels like it went from a 20 sens to a 2. After a minute it would stop then restart, for variable amounts of time both during and between. It was so bad I had to not play the game. The next day I checked to see if it was back and it was. After being in the practice range for an hour and a half, and changing a few settings, it seemed to have been fixed. I played an hour in qp with no problem. However, the day after it returned, albeit less bad. Now it has returned and is worse than ever. It makes the game unplayable for me, and I really want to fix it so I can continue playing. I love this game, and I’m not sure why this suddenly started. I play on a Macbook Pro running windows, and all of my settings are at trash tier so I can maximize my mediocre frames. There have been zero similar issues up until very recently. I’ve tried fixing it to no avail.
Please, can anyone help me.

TLDR: My sensitivity randomly drops then fixes itsef then drops and it makes the game unplayable. Attempted to fix it but nothing worked permanently. Please help.

That sure is ur input lag problem, i got the same problem aswell, but my SIM (usually my sim is around 6.2 cause i cap it) but the third value always spike up to 8 or 10, everytime something appear on killfeed, yet Blizzard won’t help my problem even though i spam lots of threads about this JUST to get more attention, yet, noone can help.

Oh yeah, there is also a guy that has the same problem in Reddit, but people who help him don’t know how to fix His and my problem

I have a very similar issue.
It started happening about a week ago and it makes the game unplayable.
Randomly it feels like my mouse sens decreases by a factor of 10.
It stays fine on menus though.

I have been scouring the internet for some fix but can’t find it.
Its not overheating, the CPU runs around 55 degrees during matches, the GPU at 80 exactly.
It’s also exclusive to Overwatch, I play way more demanding games and have had no issues what so ever.

It feels like the game is dropping inputs or something along those lines, even though I’m running at 200+ FPS.
It seems like turning off reduce buffering and turning on Vsync helped a bit, its been happening less often and less severely, but its still happening.
It’s also not ideal to introduce input delay in order to make a problem less bad…

I’m considering doing a full format of my PC but I am gonna lose a lot of stuff, I really don’t wan’t to have to go that far unless I really have to.

Yea, I ACTUALLY found out that the problem was (well for me), my input lag spike up from 6.2 (capped in 155) to 8 or 10 when something appear on killfeed , the only fix is to disable it from option, it sucks so bad, i hope i gets fix ASAP

Lame dev, said will reply daily YET NONE of my threads regarding this input spike cause by killfeed never gets replied ;-;

Even though there are lots of people having this problem

Btw, yea, i play csgo, osu, etc fine, its just overwatch that has this problem

have u fix it? yet?,

I had the same Problems Guys and I fixed it for me? I have a SIM of 6.5 (155FPS Gamecap) and it would spike up before to 10 - 12 ish when something appeared on the killfeed (best test for that is the Trainings range). So how did I fix it? Well I noticed Overwatch is badly optimized now and draws so much CPU Power then 1 year ago. I thought about upgrading my CPU (i5 6500 non k). But that wasnt such a good solution. Upgrading my CPU for 1 game while every other Game runs perfectly fine. So I decided to overclock my CPU from 3.3 Ghz to 4Ghz and you know what? When I first entered the Trainings Range, it felt like my Input Lag was reduced, it felt much faster then usual. I press Ctrl + Shift + N to see my SIM numbers and when the Killfeed shows something the sim number only increases to a maximum of 7-8 from 6.5. And when I kill someone now it doesnt seem so laggy even though the FPS before my Overclock were the same. I cant describe it but Overwatch feels so much better at 4Ghz CPU clock. Before I would have at 155 FPS a CPU Usage of 50 - 65 % in Trainingsrange when doing all sorts of stuff. Now its 35 - 48% Usage in Trainingsrange and my GPU now gets more used then before(The Fans are a bit louder cause my GPU is running a bit hotter). I then figured out the only explanation to that was I had a bigger bottleneck at 3.3 Ghz and therefore it felt worse. So I suggest to overclock you CPU. Search for your CPU in google and look what other people with the same CPU reported for safe overclock values. And look for a guide for overclocking so you know exactly, how to overclock yourself. Its not that hard you just have to take care of a few things in the bios like voltage and then you are good to go:)

My System:
Acer Predator XB241YU 165Hz G-Sync Monitor
Msi Gtx 1070 Gaming X
Intel i5 6500 (3.2 boost to 3.6Ghz) (Now 4Ghz)
Msi Z170a Pro Motherboard
500w PSU BeQuiet
250Gb Samsung SSD
Windows 10

I advise you to reset the control settings after each enter the game. I have this improves the responsiveness of the mouse. after the restart the game responsiveness of the sight again becomes terrible, until I again reset the settings

ok, so your fix was overclock it to 4 ghz? isn’t there any better solution?
(just askin :>)

my spec is I7 4790
and 750 ti

i dont get it. u overclock ur cpu, and the usage reduced?

my sim spike only around 7 and 8 aswell, but the mouse still felt a little unresponsive everytime something appear on killfeed, i don’t want that :frowning:

Yes unfortunately this was the only solution for me cause the CPU was bottlenecking. Before it was a 16% Bottleneck by my CPU. I found that out through a website called thebottlenecker (You can google it). Type in your GPU your CPU, RAM you are using and the system will tell what bottleneck you have. I typed in your peripherals and the system put out this: “Intel Core i7-4790 @ 3.60GHz with GeForce GTX 750 Ti (x1) will produce 56% of bottleneck. Everything over 10% is considered as bottleneck. We recommend you to replace GeForce GTX 750 Ti with GeForce GTX 780 Ti.”(Thats their suggestion) For me it was my CPU who bottlenecked my GTX 1070 (kinda realistic it was bottlenecking my GPU, cause its almost high end and my CPU not). So overclocking my CPU in my case was the solution, cause this was my bottleneck. In your case it seems your GPU is the bottleneck, you can find that out by using MSI afterburner and show your GPU and CPU usage while playing Ow. If your GPU hits often 100% thats considered a bottleneck if your CPU Usage is much lower in comparison. And to your last question why my CPU usage was reduced. Isnt that obvious? A faster processor has less Usage, cause its faster in handling hard tasks than a not so fast processor, which will have more struggle to compute something, therefore higher usage.

ok, thanks for the reply tho, really informative.

i will try overclocking my gpu after u respond this.

the thing is, my sim spike at around 7/8 or 9.1 usually in practice range

so that’s not a big different from your changes after the overclocking,… so is overclocking my gpu will fix this?

cause u overclock ur cpu and get lower input lag around the same as mine

but even tough my sim spike around the same as your, my mouse still felt unresponsive for a sec then back, its like a minor floaty mouse, but i still hate it, and it prevent me from playing, so are u even comfortable enough with that spike? (im not mad, just askin

No Problem dude. I can say Im comfortable cause the game doesnt feel as laggy as before and I tested this in Test Range by killing a bot and after that 180 degrees spin directly afterwards to feel if that does affect my mousemovement (Use Hanzo for that as a Test or Mccree for example). And it didnt (Or maybe… Idk but so so slightly i didnt notice and thats the most important thing).

In your case I would check if you get additional FPS drops when killing a bot. This is very important, cause Framerate does affect your Input lag (even a 1 - 2 FPS drop). In my case before my Overclock, I would notice a 1FPS drop when killing a bot and my Input lag felt kinda choppy. After my Overclock I didnt get any FPS drops at all and it didnt feel choppy suddenly anymore, even my input lag, according to sim numbers, was raising from 6.5 to avg 7 ms. You have to FEEL for yourself and deside if it does feel much better than before and In my case its just felt more responsive and kinda faster (Almost like someone increased your Sensitivity a bit, but it feels so smooth).

And yes in your case an Overclock on your GPU can make a difference but you have to test it. But make sure you dont have any Dust in your PC.
At first download something like MSI afterburner and put that slider for the power usage all the way to the Maximum. This will slightly overclock your GPU without any problems at all. If that isnt enough I would adjust the Clock frequency incrementally and test through Graphic Benchmarks if its stable. (Dont worry overclocking GPUs is not a hard thing to do and its not very risky if your GPU doesnt run to hot (Most Nvidia cards can handle up to 90 Degrees, but thats the limit)). But still look for a tutorial on youtube or elsewhere on how to overclock your GPU.
Secondly make actually sure you run the lowest Graphics settings possible to lower the stress on your GPU. Render Scale at 100% and if your Usage is still to high try running 75%.
While testing your Performance in trainings range make sure you display your GPU and CPU usage so you can analyze if your Tweaking made any differences and by how much. Make sure your FPS is 100% stable in the Trainingsrange meaning no FPS drop at all (Run around the whole Map to test this). And most importantly like said you have to feel the difference for yourself.

Can you tell your Progress after your tweaking and maybe post your whole PC setup (Monitor inclusive) so I can know with what you are dealing with.

But seems like at 56% Bottleneck, unfortunately you have to upgrade you GPU to a 780ti so your CPU is on par with your GPU. If you buy a 10th Gen card you will have to upgrade your CPU too.

Here is a Userbenchmark from my PC. I play at Overwatch at 2560x1440 Resolution and it runs flawlessly. Just that you know what overall PC you need for that.

The thing is, my sim value only spike around 8 or 9.1 or 9.5 (highest), but my mouse movement felt slow or unresponsive for a bit then back, i don’t want that :frowning:

So my spike isn’t as different as yours, but the outcome is different?

My spec is the same as i said from previous reply, my motherboard is Asus something2 i forgot, 8 gb ram, etc

This is literally overwatch bug or technical problem or maybe idk

I haven’t tested the retribution update yet or maybe hopefully the already fix it.

But i uad talked to the customer support, the said my spec is fine (because i put my spec in my ticket and the spec seems to be not the problem, my internet is above average (even tough its not good).

Osu, Csgo, fortnite works fine, why overwatch not? Yet?

Yo listen up everyone!

  1. Go into the Trainings Range
  2. Open the Netgraph (Ctrl + Shift + N)
  3. Look on your SIM Number when killing Bots.
  4. Go into Options under Gameplay.
  5. Disable the Killfeed.

Now back to the Trainings Range and shooting Bots, while your Netgraph is opened.
I´m 100% sure everyone who reads this will notice a BIG DIFFERENCE!
