Publish the Matchmaking Algorithm

all complains in this and other forums will stop, why not.

I’m pretty sure what will happen is people will just claim that it’s not the real one and then go on complaining about the ‘real’ one. And plus, we already know how the matchmaker works. They’ve told us numerous times. But people don’t believe it.

Realistically, to prevent manipulation of your MMR. Back in the day, it was discovered that players could exploit rank by playing non-meta heroes and gain rank even if they did not perform very well, gaining SR with winrates as low as 35%. Now the rules of the matchmaking and MMR have changed since then. Also the matchmaker now pairs teams more loosely since the introduction of Role Queue too. In the end the four basic rules applies:

  1. Wins will gain SR, Losses will lose SR.
  2. Your personal MMR is compared to the team average MMR of your opponents (this is called the “strength of schedule”)
  3. Your MMR will fluxate more rapidly the less frequently you play, the more you play, the more stable it will be. (Especially with new players.)
  4. For Platinum and lower players, there is a minor factor of “performance based SR adjustments” but it is very minor and only a real influence if you can really outperform with a specific hero. This adjustment is based on your performance with that hero in comparison to other players around your rank using the same hero (in different matches).

thanks, good rules, fair enough.
so my teammates are (100%) randomly selected? …If my MMR is compared to the opponents’ MMR.

You know that you are posting a load of c…? Ever heard about security through obscurity? This is the most stupid argument that will surely be repeated be cheerleader’s over and over again.

Let me suggest something then. What about if you find an exploit, and hear me out, is just a wild hypothesis, really out of another word: YOU FIX THE EXPLOIT like you do in every other open system.

Do you guys really think that always and everything Blizzard does is in YOUR interest. Grow up please and realize that big companies care only about one thing: Money.

So here is your answer for why they dont publish the matchmaking algorithm: They would lose money. They will need to invest a lot more people/h to fix the damn matchmaking if people would find holes in it.

Just don’t spin in the way that “oh blizzard just want to prevent exploiting and it is in for your own good.”

Just because you’re bronze doesn’t mean you deserve to be GM.

Learn the character interactions and you’ll easily climb to gold. Improve your mechanics and you might make it to diamond.

Personally I’m super impressed you took the time to actually respond to this. Thank you…

Probably tired of everyone calling the Wambulance…

But why bother forcing yourself to create various hacked together security solutions when you can just prevent the exploits from ever occurring in the first place? Why do you think most software uses obfuscators, and the entire premise of encryption exists?

The biggest issue with the matchmaker is SR gains/losses are based on win or loss. This system has proven time and time again to be broken and trash. Makes zero sense to lose SR if you are doing extremely well that game and it also makes zero sense to gain SR if you did nothing all game. The fact that you can go afk and still get SR is absurd and vice versa.

You’re using words he doesn’t understand my guy…

I dont think you know what security through obscurity means. Has nothing to do with software obfuscation. Software is obfuscated because of copyright infringements not security issues. If they do it because of security they are crappy engineers.

Nice troll post. [2wenty Chars]

Software is obfuscated for both reasons. Encryption is a type of obfuscation with a key. Servers often used obfuscation to mask data, for example.

What? Don’t be stupid.

I think you just don’t know what are you talking about. What has encryption to do with anything? Encryption is used to prevent data manipulation and privacy intrusions again nothing to do with security through obscurity. This statement just means that you should never think that a system is secure just by hiding it parts. Windows is copyrighted and the code is private but nobody at Microsoft is remotely thinking that just because the code is not known to the public then that fact makes it secure.

Do not forget that this adjustment factor increases rapidly the more you outperform and win. The adjustment factor can increase your SR by a large amount, in some cases (aka smurf) I’ve seen a total SR adjustment of 75 for a single win. Not very “minor”, if you ask me.

A lot more than just the complaints will stop, lol.

this person has 28k posts, they clearly are just saying they are too lazy to make an actual formula, test them out to see what works, and implement it. Since they try so hard to prevent manipulation, but choose to do nothing about smurfs who are playing 2k under the SR they should be playing at and noobs being placed in plat/diamond games to ruin their SR, leavers, and have an automated suspension system that bans the wrong person majority of the time.

No, but I think the spirit of the statement is still true because those smurfs aren’t really platinum & below. Real plat & below players aren’t stressing the limits of that nearly as much as a smurf can or would.
