I hate priority passes. They don’t incentivize the right thing.
Its not encouraging anyone to learn to play Tank, its just filling every single game with DPS mains off-roleing as Roadhog and Wrecking Ball and playing DPS anyway. Especially in Comp, people throw games on Tank and use the priority passes to go play DPS. Queue times are shorter but game are substantially worse. I much preferred waiting longer to get into an actual game with actual tanks instead of every single game feeling like an absolute waste of my time. You can’t look only at the queue times, because the quality of games shows this system is an absolute failure.
its not that i dont agree with you but before priority passes it could still be a flex player or dps player just queueing tank because he/she was sick of long dps queue times
actual real tank only main players are probably VERY rare.
Priority pass made me realize that all the garbage tanks I had helping me before… They weren’t so bad. I miss them. Please bring the garbage back!
Sure it is.
They will learn how to do that with tanks, eventually they will get good at tanking, it will just take them longer.
Different paths up the same mountain and all that.
Like that people who don’t normally play tank are bad at tanking shouldn’t really be news to anyone.
This is true, if I learned how to be a competent tank, anyone can! And it did take me quite a long time for it to click even if Hog and Ball are the strongest options for someone with a dps mindset.
I agree. Although, it’s not so much that it’s off-tanks, but those who pick Rein and do nothing but feed. As in, constantly trying to face rush in ALONE over and over again instead of allowing the team to follow up and help.
It’s frustrating when you have a main tank play like a giant DPS. And then get salty because they’re dying. Well yeah, maybe group up???
At that point I would rather have Hog and Ball DPS’ing than Rein doing the same thing.
Well, sometimes you can see people playing tanks with no will at all to do it. They don’t make an effort during the match.
I feel like Rein is the hardest tank to grasp if you do not understand tanking. But sadly, with Rein being the McCree or Mercy of the role, everyone sort of expects that you have one in your pocket.
True, but, why insta-lock Rein if you’re not comfortable with his kit? When I play Ana, my granny legs has to run after him when he charges off into the great beyond instead of at least waiting for Zarya… or really anyone that can follow up on his shatter.
Oh, I do not, I already know I am so bad at him that I could never make it work without excessive practice. I just think the overall attitude about how easy he is to play and how he has been a staple for average ranks for nearly 5 years kind of inspires players to pick him even when they would be more likely to win if they jumped off the map every respawn.
Since Rein is a close range hero and just standing with your shield up isn’t enough (since enemies spam your shield from range), it’s easy to feed on your W+M1 journey, especially if your team doesn’t follow up.
You see yourself as not impactful, a punching bag, while reliant on your teammates that are not cooperating, this pretty much discourage people from playing tank. You wish you’d have mobility or range to stay away from the risk while trying to impact, or at least some ability to “get out of jail (free card)” as some DPS have.
…bbbbbb.b.bbut rein is easy? You just stand there in the middle of the choke with your shield up, then you randomly press charge and do many hammer swings!!!11
Yeah, I agree. I’m just…watching our main tank play respawn simulator after solo charging into a Bastion three times in a row, and still doesn’t wait for us. All I can think of is:
I mean sure, but at a certain point you should also have a tick of common sense. If your plan isn’t working by going in alone (while some of us are still emotionally recovering from our random Grav+Dragon death by respawning), why do it 40 times again?
If we still have 3 mins on the timer, why the rush?
Same. I’ve been slowly quitting tanking, but haven’t really decided whether I’m gonna start playing DPS or Supports so I’ve been doing a bit of both
I really like tanking, but the way they’ve handled the role’s balancing and how hecked up the matchmaking experience for the role is, it’s just unplayable for me because of how consistently horrible the gameplay experience is. When I stack up with my friends tanking feels great, or at least fun, but when I’m not doing that which is 95% of the time, tanking just feels horrible. And it’s mostly thanks to how horribly handicapped the matchmaking experience for tanks are. If this doesn’t change in the future, the amount of tank players we’re gonna have is just going to keep going down and no amount of random prizes for picking up the role is going to save the situation. The only way to save the situation is to give the tanks the favorable matchmaking and therefore gameplay experience.
Unless they give us the option to prioritize games around ourselves and not around some DPS who sat 8 minutes in the queue, I’m not going to be tanking in OW in the future.
Problem with flex q is that ppl go play it (tank/support) with mindset of:
“I’m here just for ticket”
Do you think they learn anything about tanking/supporting with that mindset?
Flex Q is the worst idea that could come to overwatch cause it’s tank dependent game. If you want to make players go tank create interesting tanks.
Or Change some heroes to tanks like Mei or Doom.
With ability to push other tanks back Doom would become best tank for making space.
If on top of that they go F2P, we will get influx of players starting in PLAT playing flex ruining game for every1 below diamond, it’s literally a middle finger towards 50% of existing playerbase.
I agree with you, it’s just people may be impatient to learn this “team reliant” playstyle and stop playing tanks, or they go play Ball, Hog (and maybe Sigma). The game starts to feel death-matchy then.
I have been playing less tank too, and with that, basically I need to open queue to dps because aint nobody got time fo dat. And to that end, I find myself playing a lot of support this season, oddly enough.
I guess I am just hoping we get Fox Girl and I assume she will be a support becuase smol. But hey, if she is a tank, I shall return! Assuming we even get her, that is. I am hella pessimistic after their schedule reveal.
this is why they shouldnt have rewarded tickets for losses. should be a fat 0. for wins kinda doesnt really matter 2, 4, 6…
so people have an incentive to win and not lose lol. right?
I’ll be honest.
I used to play Orisa and Winston because I liked them.
I just play them rarely now.
I’m a bad Hog and Ball player, so I’m not in favor in the current balance state of the game.
I’m pretty meh with the rest, sometimes I can do good and sometimes bad.
Whenever I play tank I do my best… but I keep looking at same things on dps
NOT COUNTERPICKING or keeping Genji vs Winston symm moira…
so ye… tank quality… -.-
not dps who seems to don’t hav H on their keyboard.
This is why I can’t climb when I play dps, I think to much on counterpicking
maybe I just have to keep my sombra vs hog torb brig mcnoskill
