In today’s game character design, I believe that an outstanding character story and character design are equally important. In my view, Blizzard excels in the setting of character backstory, and they are top-tier in the industry. In this topic, what I mainly want to discuss is the aspect of character design. Is it possible to cater to the aesthetic concepts of some subcultures or niche groups? This might allow different people, more people, to fall in love with the game (they may be more inclined to choose characters they aesthetically prefer).
Here are some niche character design concepts/styles:
-
Personally, I’m very interested in the Shonen image from the ACGA culture. A sun-kissed, handsome Shonen (muscular physique/tanned skin?), a brilliant smile, and a cheerful personality can motivate my day and make my work and study full of drive. The style might be more like Japanese Shonen Manga.

BL (Boys’ Love)
-
Shounen-Ai
-
Shounen-con
-
Furry
-
And so on.
My perspective is probably more niche, belonging to a subculture (like Shounen-con). Such character settings might need to meet specific criteria to match the preferences within that circle. However, if you want to know more — though I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it — you might just have to Google it yourself! (QwQ)
I’m very sorry, these are just some of my fantasies. Please forgive me. But if there were such characters, I think I might go from being a loyal Overwatch fan to an obsessed fan.
