Plum Fairy Mercy's wings are yellow. Why?

Hi. Art student here.

I saw the new legendary revealed on twitter, and I’m happy that Mercy’s getting another amazing skin. But why are the wings yellow? I’m genuinely wondering why Blizzard might have thought default yellow looked fitting on a pink/purple & green themed skin.

I want to be invested in trying to earn/buy this 3000 credit skin, but I saw the yellow and immediately got disinterested and felt disappointed.

There are 250 credit epic skins unlockable all year round that have better color unity and are more satisfying to look at.

Note: I mention I’m an artist cause well… art and color is my thing. I love attention to detail and colors that go together nicely. So, small details and inconsistencies like a wing color on a skin immediately stand out to me. The lack of change in wing color for this skin makes it feel like it was overlooked or wasn’t cared about.

It’s such a simple fix too. Green blue or purple would be nice but sticking to the default yellow was such a weird decision.

They’re not yellow. I see it as blue/pinkish.

I wouldn’t say it’s for consistency because as long as all the other skins have different wing colors then it doesn’t matter.

I was disappointed with it as well, and I’m not an art student. It just looks way too out of place.

True, but it’s the only thing that makes sense to me. Like, I love her Fortune skin for her green wings and the blue wings on Valkyrie. Actually, I get the feeling it’s a difference in designer? The person who designed this skin probably never changes the colors, or hasn’t designed for Blizzard before and wasn’t sure if that was allowed. I can guarantee it won’t be changed though.

But if that were the case, then why are her other legendaries (Valkyrie, Combat Medic, even Imp and Devil) given unique wing colors? I don’t think the color of them has impact on her ability effects outside of Pink Mercy.

See my above comment. I was basically parroting what I saw in a different thread that kinda made sense to me at the time.

Hmm, I dunno. Pink, Cobalt, Fortune and her Valkyrie skins all have different wing colors. It never seemed to be a problem before so why now? Perhaps it’s just an accident and they’ll fix it later on. Or it’s simple laziness. Kinda reminds me of the same ‘debacle’ that happened with Sombra’s make-up in her Talon skin. ^^’

Nonetheless, it’s a very brilliant skin and I’m happy to spend 3.000 credits on it, whether they’ll fix her wing color or not. <3

Because the flesh of a plum is yellow?

Zarya’s LNY skin is green, yet her beam is blue
Sombra’s Winter skin is blue, yet her hack remains purple (even though cyberspace already is blue)
Reaper still doesn’t use his non-reapish lines for his non-reaper skins

Blizz just doesn’t care.

I mean… maybe that’s it haha

I won’t repeat myself, but like I said before, see my above comment. I pretty much write comments as uh… what’s it called when you write what you’re thinking without thinking? Free thought? Word puke? Something like that. Lol

What I am sure of is that, just like Sombra’s Talon makeup and hair, Tracer’s Lightning hair, and Junkrat’s Buccaneer dreads, they won’t be changing Mercy’s wings. This isn’t a draft, this is a final product, and we’re not being given these skins to critique them so the artist can go back and change them just to please us. Since Hanzo’s hair was changed in his Casual skin, it set a precedent where people seem to think this will always happen, but that was a different situation. We knew what Hanzo’s hair was supposed to look like for a whole year before his skin was released, and we were promised that skin for months up to Winter Wonderland. We expected his hair to be like it was in that comic, but it wasn’t. Whoever designed that skin either didn’t look at the comic for reference or decided to use some artistic license that sorely backfired. So, since we weren’t given what we were promised, Blizzard changed it to look like his hair in the comic. None of these other skins are things we’ve seen before, so there’s no broken promises. It’s the artist’s vision and we either like it or leave it.

Anyway, I think it’s the most gorgeous skin of any skin EVER and if they did miraculously change her wings I wouldn’t even care because no matter the color it’s perfect. I’m so glad I decided to start playing Mercy again!

I get it. I’m not asking for another winter Hanzo situation like that, and I figure it probably won’t be fixed but it still doesn’t change how I feel about it, or the fact that its a simple thing that could be fixed and make the skin extra special. I’ve always been discontent with the amount of design inconsistencies for skins in the game, and I’d address them all if I could.

Yes, the skin is so beautiful. But the wings don’t go with the rest of it.

Hello,

Same thing here, I really don’t like it.
The wings should be purple or pink as well…

Please Blizzard, change that!

Like others have said, the effects are likely still yellow for consistency reasons. Just like BCRF Mercy’s beam stayed yellow instead of being changed to pink.

I love the skin and the yellow initially made me think of a flower’s stamen, so I didn’t particularly find it out of place.
